im SO excited for u to upload guardians 3

Btw, Zoe is a lesbian in the comics she has a huge crush on Nakia. . . That's why they had that weird scene where they are together talking about how "Kamala has the right to 'come out' (as a hero) when she's ready". . . That's the closest Disney let to portraying it. This show was good. One of the reasons Ms Marvel is good as a comic is her family and the rest of her supporting cast, which the tv show nails. Although most comic reader don't really like her ship with Bruno, some of the writers kind of really liked pushing it. . . It kind of doesn't help that like every other character she meets in her age range has a crush on her, making her one of those characters that just has dozens of viable ships that different fans want to see canon. Bruno is kind of in the bottom of the totem pole.

Kyutoko

"You remember your cousin, right?" Which of the 18 on my mother's side and the 15 on my father's are you referring to? I NEED HELP HERE! Second cousins!? Children of cousins!? WE'RE INTO THE HUNDREDS NOW!

Adam

You do realize Disney's actually entirely fine with showing Lesbians, right? And before you go "but Owl House," the maker of that show straight up said the cutting it short had fuckall to do with Luz and Amity's relationship. The show didn't merchandise well. It was plain old greed. Not bigotry. Also gonna point Zoe and Nakia are supporting characters, and there isn't enough time in a 6 ep series to really show their relationship without taking focus off the actual protagonist.

Moviejunkie

That fight at the end is where you see what Kamala’s powers are supposed to be with the giant fists and enlarged limbs. Very cool.

Kyutoko

I can't blame Kamala for asking "Is it spicy?" because, I can handle spicy, but only if I KNOW in advance it's gonna be spicy. My classmates in highschool tricked into eating a full Habanero Pepper without telling me what it was. And I almost died from an asthma attack it brought on.

TwojaStaraIFrytki .

Did Alicia retried watching Quantumania? Or it will be "never to rewatch"?

Dezwolf86

the post credit scene is more of clip from The Marvels movie so it's fine if she doesn't see it (edit: nevermind she saw the the scene)

nervouspirate

The one thing I don’t like about this show is how they changed her powers from the comics. Kamala is supposed to be moving like Gear 3 Luffy.

harry

when is the hobbit reaction coming out ?

Dragonstar868

When’s her guardians 3 reaction coming out? I thought it was gonna come out this week.

Phantom Penance

Ehh I was never interested in Ms. Marvel, right when she got introduced. My disinterest only grew as Marvel kept putting her face everywhere. The tipping point was when Disney made their own Spider-Man TV show where SOMEHOW Spidey was still in high school and yet Ms. Marvel was already an Avenger. I was like, “Okay, that’s all kinds of wrong.”

nervouspirate

Well why would she? If anything from that movie is ever relevant, then maybe, but it seems like they’re dropping it almost entirely. Kang has been phased out because he can’t hold a franchise and his actor is cancelled. Wasp will prolly die off screen because the actress retired from acting to be an anti-vaxxer. Cassie might stick around and be the least popular Young Avenger, but Paul Rudd is the only one really worth saving.

AlthosHol

Was actually just wondering the same thing. The first Hobbit movie was reacted to, but what about the rest?

Pell D. indestructible

That's just something Marvel keeps with Spider-man, they keep making him a teen hero while teaming him up with modern teen heroes, the newest Spider-man cartoon does this a lot

GavinGamePad3DS

Were they still your friends after that?

Switchchris27

Can't wait for you to watch "The Marvels". It got a ridiculous amount of hate when it came out from people who didn't even watch the movie, just because Captain Marvel was in it. I saw the movie in theaters twice and loved it. While im still not a big fan of Captain Marvel herself, she is done far better in "The Marvels" then she has been in any other movie, she isn't just a depiction of "Strong woman is strong" and nothing else, they gave her better writing and a deeper personality/flaws. Ms.Marvel is amazing, this is one of my fav shows in the MCU and she is one of my fav characters in the MCU atm, can't wait to see more of her.

Switchchris27

She isn't going back to that, she could only watch like the first 30 minutes of it before getting so bored she couldn't focus on it. Its a bit sad since the movie itself is beautiful in it's design and the Setting, its just the writing that is terrible.

Switchchris27

I think that connecting her power more closely to her culture is a very good change, it also just looks better. While they made the Stretchy power look decent in the new Fantastic Four, it looks fine because the clothes were covering it, I don't think it would look good with Ms.Marvel's original version of it, just kinda goofy at best. Plus she can just do more with it now. At least they kept that she is a Mutant from the more recent comic runs.

Dragonstar868

I thought it’s supposed to. But if so when’s it gonna be posted? Or is it gonna be posted next week?

TTJek

She said in gotg Holliday special that it will be releasing on Mondays which is today...

Dragonstar868

Right. I forgot. I only watched the reaction once so I didn’t remember that part.

BigKez0

Press F to pay respect for that roast.

Kyutoko

The ones I was actually friends with, eventually.

Andy Clewell

I loved this show, but every series like this gets a bit rushed in the last 3 episodes in my opinion.

Switchchris27

that is usually how plots work in general. The bulk of the action happens in the final 3rd of the plot. They gotta spend time setting up the world, characters, and story before they get to the action that those things set up. For these 6 episode shows, they spend the first 4 episodes setting that stuff up, then the final two tend to be the action that it was all leading up to. I think the pacing was actually rather good for this one. The 9-12 episode shows tend to have a bit better pacing because they have more time to work with.

Switchchris27

It might be on the list of things people Vote to continue. The Hobbit movies are not nearly as loved as the other Lord of the Rings movies, so it might take a while to be voted enough on.

Switchchris27

It wouldn't have looked good if they kept her Stretchy. I like how they connected her powers more to her culture, not only does it look significantly cooler, but she can do A LOT more with it. If all she could do was stretch, fight scenes would get boring quickly. She doesn't have the genius intelligence that carries Mr.Fantastic's role in his team. Ms.Marvel doesn't have her Team yet, so her having a different but similar power that is linked to her own culture is a change for the better in my opinion.

nervouspirate

There’s nothing, to my knowledge, culturally significant about ugly, glowing, purple rock candy in South Asian cultures

PandaBH

I think the reason the marvels flopped is mainly no one cared enough to go watch a movie about it also the script is kinda weak. I mean the audience score for the movie on rotten tomatoes is 79%

Switchchris27

it did get hit with a review bomb, but yes. 79% is still a good score. The movie became a huge success once it hit streaming services and people actually saw the movie, it was number 1 on Disney+ for a while there. Theaters still hadn't recovered from the Lockdowns at the time, still hasn't fully recovered, as people wait for it to go to streaming. People only go to see the massive movies now.

PandaBH

I mean if the theaters hadn’t recovered than how did Spider-Man NWH 2021 and The guardians vol 3 2022 do really well and the marvels lost 100’s of millions

Switchchris27

NWH was one of the biggest movies of that year. As I said only the massive movies get people in seats. Guardians 3 was a sequel in a very loved series, of course people go to see that one. The Marvels was a movie that featured Captain Marvel (a character that got almost nothing but Hate) and Ms.Marvel (who had only been in a 6 episode show that most of the general audience did not watch, because for some reason a lot of people hate watching shows that connect to movies), and then they had the other Marvel that had only showed up for like 1 episode of Wandavision. The Marvels was fighting back a lot of misconceptions and negative bias.

Fei Ashtear

Ms. Marvel finally getting some recognition and praise makes me so happy. I am greatly looking forward to The Marvels reaction. I honestly feel it's a good movie that was unjustly shat on by a bunch of creeps on YouTube.

PNR

no movies on monday?

Iron_claw

Dam it i was hoping to get the guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 movie reaction today guess not maybe next week then hopefully

PandaBH

I think the marvels is average,I don’t like how this movie spent 374 million total. it looks like a tv show in a lot of shots also the script isn’t that great.

Phantom Penance

This show and MoonKnight were definitely rushed in the last few episodes.

Phantom Penance

I don’t have a problem with that. They should’ve done what Ultimate Spider-Man did—have Spidey and other teen heroes start off at the same time. But Ms. Marvel is SPIDEY’S hero mentor?? That’s not right at all! It’s like a Karate Kid remake, except Mr. Miyagi needs help from Daniel

MMDXXX

So uh, are we watching Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 sometime today?

Senzu Bean

On her stream she mentioned that she might watch Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 later today if she’s not too tired

Andy Clewell

You are completely right, both of you!

EDWin qaz

Did daredevil get dropped?

Ektopos

Yeah, I ended up deleting my PayPal on principle when they started pulling out of steam in some countries to try and bully steam into taking explicit games off their platform

Samuel of Gythia

I certainly hope not. Season 3 is too damn good

Tajman Dragon

Ms. Marvel is really underrated imo wen it comes to marvels shows

Daisy Azuras

The comment about abducting kids in high school is so poignant right now considering the situation that we’re dealing with having ice roll into schools and abduct children and place them in holding base solely on the color of their skin. You would think that the US government would see that as a bad look.

Aliulo

If you're looking for proximity to Malayalam, it's going to be other Dravidian languages. The one's closest would Tamil and Kannada, and more distantly Telugu. There's more languages in the family, but those are the big ones.

link shulen

I believe Alicia is catching up on some donation episodes from a few different things first (I could be mistaken) Plus it's all great content from our rat queen!

Lance Ivy

GLKNIGHT83 said desil is unrifind petrol and it hurt my soul

Dajkenoth

Ms Marvel is a really good show, but it leans a lot into the family drama and when someone watches something from Marvel, they are more focused on the epic fights and superpowers which might be why its much less popular. While i think having the drama is good, they have to make the superhero part of it more prominent, cos as a drama, there are other shows that provide better stuff, but when it comes to Marvel it has superpowers unique to Marvel and u cant get that anywhere else

Faroth

i love how pedant the agent i like "they blow up a building" or "they have been destroying the city" when it was their drones who did that and started by attacking the kids without saying a word, not even an agent making 1st contact and saying "hey, we notice you, wanne help us?" no, she just sent a killer drone to shoot at them, like, damn, thats the new type of racism that xmen show, since is obvious that she just dont like mutants or enhance people at all

Faroth

yeah, right now she has a lot of stuff at the same time: onepiece adventure time gumbal superman darling dressup starwars marvel stuff and some others is a ton of stuff and few hours per week

Bologna Amputation

My dad loved this show, and he can't stand superhero stuff. This show is very not superheroey in the usual way, and I mean that as a compliment to its uniqueness.

Lance Ivy

yeah the optics of goverment agencys tearing kids out of school it would just be awefull ......ugh glad its fichtion ha ha ha

Lance Ivy

she is a mutate and i feel that that was just a another slap in the face of marel fans who like inhumans ....idk why figi hates them so much

TSP247

let's compare in my italian side of the family I have 503 cousins that live within a small town in NSW Australia I had to go there for a wedding and they booked out a huge basketball warehouse to have the event.

EnderSlayer366

tbh the least interesting parts were the fantastical superpowered elements (at least in the second half, the clandestines didnt really hit), and i'd say for sure that its not the only marvel show i'd say that for

Dajkenoth

Yes, i agree with you completely, but thats exactly why im saying the show isnt popular. The interesting part is the family dynamics and drama, and the boring parts are the superpowered elements, but people who watch Marvel shows, especially shows that have just released (they dont know its about family drama yet), dont come in expecting a good drama, they are expecting a superhero show. So what happens when then? They dont care how good the drama is, the show has betrayed their expectations of a “superhero show”, so thats why they dont like the show when its freshly released. Thats why im saying while the drama is good, they really have to make a good balance between the drama and super powers, which means they really have to improve on the superpower part, even to the point of making that the emphasis, cos yknow, thats what people watch Marvel stuff for. You dont go blind into a Marvel movie looking for a good drama, horror, satire, romance, etc. You expect a good superhero story, and superpowered elements are integral to that.

EnderSlayer366

Always loved Ms. Marvel personally, definitely one of the biggest victims of the goofy lack of coordination in phases 4 and 5, wish she showed up in more stuff. The family dynamics were so good, I liked pretty much every character. It's just so wholesome and fun. And the fit goes so hard too. This show got a good father figure and AND gyro mentions, what's not to love? Also why did Ant choose "pickles"? Was there any more context to that? Anyone know?

RedVit Productions

I genuinaly don't get how changing her powers work for the better. There's lines on the first episodes that go DIRECTLY against the entire message of her first comic appearance.

daverboy

So, now that this is over, time for the big comic info dump! First, the name and the costume in the comics were right away, and were inspired by Captain Marvel. In the comics universe, Carol wasn't the first Captain Marvel, and previously went by Miss Marvel with a lightning bolt symbol, but they had to make up new shit for all of that, because none of that happened in the MCU. Second, the powers. In the comics, she doesn't have hard light, she has stretchy powers. Similar to Mr Fantastic, but she specifically does a lot of stuff with fully growing or shrinking in size as well. Any time in this series that you see her use her light powers to make herself giant fists, or long arms, or when she gives herself the full armor and longer legs near the end, that's them referencing the stuff that she'd ACTUALLY do tin the comics. There's 3 main reasons for the change in her powers and origins: 1. The obvious, Antman exists, and Mr Fantastic was already planned to be added back in, so having someone who grows/shrinks and stretches would be stepping on toes, and the MCU doesn't like doing that unless the characters are *directly* related in their lore (ie, wasp also shrinking). 2. Some elements were changed probably due to plans for The Marvels, which is something I'll get into in THOSE comments, rather than these ones. 3. They had to completely change Kamala's backstory, because originally she debuted as part of a scheme by Marvel executives back before disney bought out fox to make the x-men less important. Disney still wanted to do something like the x-men, but they didn't have the rights, but Marvel had another group of superbeings with some similarities, called the Inhumans. The Inhumans had recently moved their space-city on the moon to just off the coast of manhattan. They also look mostly like humans, and then when they're teenagers or young adults they go through a coming-of-age story where they're exposed to Terrigen Mist, which gives them powers. And like mutants, their powers are all different, and some still look human while others get physical changes. So Marvel mandated this storyline where someone set off a bomb that released a massive cloud of Terrigen Mist that travelled across the planet, causing people who had Inhuman ancestors to spontaneously gain powers, and causing any mutants who inhaled it to die. At the same time, Marvel was planning an Inhumans movie, to take advantage of this change in the canon, making the Inhumans the more prominent group, and Kamala was kind of the flagship character, as well as the most successful one. Those movie plans were downgraded to an Agents of Shield spinoff tv show (the guy with the super-powered voice from Dr Strange 2 is actually one of the inhumans, and played by the same actor from the show), and then on top of that, the show bombed. People gradually stopped caring about the "NuHumans", other events gradually retconned all the dead mutants, and everybody moved on, except that Ms Marvel stayed fairly popular. So when they decided to bring her to the MCU, they A. didn't want to do anything with Inhumans anymore because their last attempt bombed, and B. wanted to tease/hint at mutants because they had recently acquired the X-Men movie rights and were starting to try and figure out how to bring them in. So they gave her a whole new origin story, added all the stuff about djinn, tied it more into her *human* heritage rather than just being "whoops, one of your ancestors fucked an Inhuman and now you have powers. And that is why Ms. Marvel, the face of a storyline meant to promote Inhumans and get rid of Mutants for the sake of the MCU, is now a mutant in the MCU :P

Seraphem

This wasn't really a 'Marvel' or 'Disney' thing pushing the Inhumans, that was entirely on Ike Perlmutter, the CEO/Chairman of Marvel. Trying to replace the X-Men with Inhumans started long before Disney because Ike is a petty little bitch who was salty that someone other then him was making money off 'his' property and didn't see why Marvel should produce free publicity for Fox by putting out more X-Men comics, because he is also an idiot who couldn't process that successful films do more to drive comic sales then comics do to boost film sales. The reason all the Inhuman stuff was kept to the TV shows and never showed up in the movies was because Ike tried to muscle in and take control of the MCU during Phase 2 (A lot of the issues with that phase were due to his meddling, most notably he's the reason it took so long to get a Black Widow movie, and is the one who said 'no one would notice' they recast War Machine) since he'd scoffed at and deride Kevin Feige's whole plan for the MCU but let him do it because the guy helped Ike buy the company on the condition he was given the chance to do so. And when it became a success, Ike had to take over to prove that it was all because of his genius and vision! Then ended up pissing off so much of the cast and crew that Disney finally stepped in and removed him from any position of authority over the films, but he still had control over the TV divisions to push his Inhuman stuff that no one else wanted.

Seraphem

My guess would be reflexive disdain for them due to how much of a hard on Ike "No one will care we recast War Machine because black people all look alike" Perlmutter had for them and kept trying to force them down everyone's throats.

LBM

Any plans on watching The Falcon and the Winter Soldier?

daverboy

True, I had forgotten that Disney wasn't the issue when the plan started. That said, I try to avoid having to bring up Ike Perlmutter whenever possible, cuz he's a creep who doesn't deserve the attention, especially now that he's out of the company \o/

Bologna Amputation

You know, I really enjoyed this show. I'm glad I didn't watch it when it came out (I was really feeling the marvel burn-out when it was new), but man did I enjoy this.

D.Dark

the slight xmen classic theme song playing while telling her about the mutation is the best

ELS_Art

Yeah British really did do a lot of fuck shit. Also what the Spaniards did to the Mesoamerican people and what the American’s tried to do to the people of Mexico after. Also not that a lot of people will care about this in a random comment section but a neat fact about my family is my great great grandfather ran raiding missions north into Texas and the American south to rescue slaves since Mexico outlawed slavery almost fifty years before the us did after winning independence from Spain. This has been brown people facts from a fellow brown person. 🤭

Fenronin (Dorian Dubourg)

Her power are completly different than normal I guess theydidn't know how to make it look good with low budget cgi since she's kind of like Mr fantastic and Luffy so they added glowing shit to hide it

Fenronin (Dorian Dubourg)

bringing back inhumans at the end?? after they did the whole thing in agents of SHIELD

StorytellerDave

I am glad Alicia likes the rep in the show, I know plenty people did, but also some who really didn't like it. I remember listening to a Marvel Podcast and ThatBronzeGirl really hated this show's representation of the whole Noor thing. Personally I think it's the same as the dimension in Shang Chi and what they did with Thor's mythological origin.
