So it was stated by James Gunn that Creature Commandos is where the New DCU starts, everything in CC and after that is canon and if someone makes a reference to the previous DCU, the thing they made reference to now becomes canon.

So to answer a few of your guys questions. This movie takes place in the DCEU. Which is man of steel bvs wonderwoman etc. peacemaker season one was also in DCEU, between seasons there was a power change and James Gunn was put in as head of dc. So he said most of PM season 1 is cannon, and from Superman on anything that’s said or done is cannon, including flashbacks. So if in the new Superman movie they mention events that happened in this movie then it makes it cannon. He hasn’t said if Margo is coming back as Harley for new DCU yet

Also if you're curious this movie takes place in the old DCEU and so some of the details don't match up anymore but it's still largely Canon to the DCU, like Corto Maltese and Project Starfish still happened, and Rick Flag was killed by Peacemaker, but the rest we don't really know what other details are Canon or not. If I remember correctly James Gunn described The Suicide Squad 's canonical status as an imperfect memory.

Pretty sure people already explained but in simple terms, if an event from the DCEU is mentioned in the DCU it's officially canon. Doesn't mean the movie is canon but events similar to the movie did happen but with characters present in the DCU. As of right now this only applies to Suicide Squad 2016, The Suicide Squad and Blue Beetle

It might be slightly overly generous to say Amanda Waller’s motivation is the “greater good of the planet”, I’d say she’s much more specifically an about the “greater good of herself and the United States interests” kind of person, hence why this movie is full of US flags

Funny you guys mentioned The Rock's acting is just being himself -- which is mostly true; I like his performance in Pain and Gain, and Fast Five, which changed into just the usual Rock in the later installments -- because his latest role in The Smashing Machine is reported to be an outlier, if the media is anything to believe. I will definitely be checking it out in October with great interest.

The Suicide Squad was still considered to be DCEU canon and serves as a soft reboot to David Ayer's Suicide Squad movie from 2016. Everything from that movie, was canon. That's why u see characters like Amanda Waller, Rick Flag Jr, Captain Boomerang, and Harley Quinn being back for this movie with their established continuity from Suicide Squad 2016. This was before James Gunn took over Now when James Gunn became the co head of DC Studios, he rebooted the DCEU into the DCU. The last DCEU project was Aquaman 2. The rebooted DCU didn't start until Creature Commandos animated series and then Superman. Projects like Blue Beetle, The Suicide Squad, and Peacemaker got folded into DCU canon shortly after with slight changes for obvious reasons

James Gunn is a goat for a single reason: he knows what he's doing. He's doing movies based on comics and man, watching his movies feels like reading a good superhero comic book. I know that many other directors want to innovate and add their touch, but in many cases they try to hard and it looses the essence of what a comic is.

Have you seen the lineup of projects he has planned? World Building is gonna be done very well considering he isn't making just a "Justice League Universe" like Snyder did. He is putting more focus on the lesser known characters and stuff that wasn't given any focus in the previous franchise. Every movie will have a different tone and focus. This is a world where meta-humans have been on earth for 300 years, there is a lot to work with to separate it from our Earth, its gonna be amazing. A lot of Show don't Tell I assume.

Some quick fun facts and trivia: 1) The guy who injects Micheal Rooker's character with the brain bomb is played by John Ostrander, the creator of the Suicide Squad. 2) The only things that are fully cannon to James Gunn's DCU so far is Creature Commandos, Peacemaker (Season 2), and Superman. Anything else is considered non canon, unless it's referenced in universe, and even then only some events. So any previous DCEU movie, like Birds of Prey, Aquaman, Shazam, etc are no longer cannon. 3) T.D.K.'s original name is "Arm Fall Off Boy." Yes, really. His only powers was to be able to tear off his arms to use as wepons. 4) Starro the Conqueror was one of the first villains the Justice League ever faced as a group. 5) King Shark is voiced by Sylvester Stalone, Rocky himself! 6) Polka Dot Man has been around since 1962

Enchantress and Rick flag jr. Them dying and then Rick flag Sr in commando and peacekeeper won't touch it up in the feels even a slight bit...? Jared Leto Joker take was awful no arguments. But the rest wasn't about that. It's gen 1 of suicide squad. Will Smith dead shot was ok. Love Diablo despite not being strongest take of him. The rocky start I think pulls off the future reactions in long run is all. It's not a masterpiece but let's be honnest it ain't no Joker 2, FF4 2015, or black widow. Close. Sure but just barely passes as "Sure ill re watch that" cuz the rest was just ok.

But he also said that everything that is brought up in Peacemaker S2 including the S1 recap, is made canon Which makes sense cuz Peacemaker can't exist without the Suicide Squad In the later episodes, they bascially semi canonized David Ayer's Suicide Squad movie(or a variant of it) because of the mention of Enchantress and Rick Flag's relationship For Blue Beetle, he already stated that it will be folded into the DCU since the movie has little to no connections to the DCEU. Hence a DCU Blue Beetle animated series with the movie cast returning

Yes, Sean Gunn (Kraglin in the Guardians movies) is James Gunn's brother. James tends to cast Sean as at *least* a cameo in pretty much all of his movies. In this case, he played Calendar Man in the prison (the guy who was making fun of polka-dot man, with the shaved head), and he played Weasel, as well as more recently playing Maxwell Lord in that one news shot towards the end of Superman. On top of that, since you just saw Guardians Vol. 3 recently, I *just* learned that Sean Gunn was also the mocap actor for Rocket in all of the Marvel movies, including for young baby Rocket, with Bradley Cooper doing the voice-over later.

James Gunn was asked about where The Suicide Squad and the first season of Peacemaker belong in his DCU. His reply was, "they're like distant dreams." In other words, the movie is both cannon and not cannon. Some characters and actors will return in his DCU, others will not. He is currently on the fence if he wants to invite Margot Robbie back as Harley Quinn, as he may want to go a different direction with her in his new DCU. He has expressed interest in bringing Idris Eldra back as Bloodsport. Weasel was played by Sean Gunn, and physically acted on set.

At the beginning when Bloodsport tells his daughter that her mom sprung her on him. He didnt say "your mom refused to get an abortion" she said "your mom sprung you on me" which more implies that they probably slept together once, and she showed up later on with his kid without telling him about her. Its clear they dont like each other so it seems more like she was probably several years old before she met her father.

Yeah as far as I remember there are 2 Rick Flags, a Rick Flag Sr. (Who you see in adventures with Superman and in a few scenes in James Gunn Superman) Then you have Rick Flag Jr who is in the suicide squad. Fun fact during an interview with Gunn and Flag jr. actor they talked about why flag was put on the suicide squad. Apparently there is a deleted scene where flag just offhandedly makes fun of Waller’s shirt in passing so she put him in charge of the squad to kill his ass 😂😅😂 Also John Cena despite the films he’s in the dude is just a good bean. Another fun fact James Gunn had to teach John Cena how to use a bong for Peace Maker because the dude had no idea what it’s like 😂😂😂 Also if I’m not mistaken the Creature Comandos animated show is cannon to this and Superman as well. Haven’t seen it myself but I heard it was pretty good and it has some of the suicide squad memeber in it

Fun fact: Margot Robbie herself was the one who grabbed the keys with her toes and reached up to the lock. She did it herself just to show off to the crew how flexible she is.
