The wild part is that they give hints about Garnet being a fusion throughout season 1. 3 eyes, 2 gems. The biggest, though, is during the episode where Connie's parents want to meet Steven's, alexandrite defuses and each gem is shown briefly reconstituting themselves. However, garnet doesn't form immediately; you can actually see ruby and sapphire form for a moment before they reform into garnet.

The moment we've all been waiting for!!!!! Yeah Garnet's whole existence is a reveal I've been looking forward to seeing you react to ever since you started watching this show. It really puts into perspective how Garnet behaved when Stevonnie was created too. She was so proud and happy that she had a new fusion to interact with and get to know! It also explains her attitude toward Stevonnie in general; "You are an experience!" Fusion is overall a very broad allegory for love, intimacy, and in some cases even sex, and to see how the Homeworld Gems view fusion as an abomination (Jasper's dig at Garnet makes a lot more sense now eh?) is a pretty meaningful portrayal especially considering that all the gems we've seen are femme-presenting/identifying. It also puts a very uncool perspective on how Jasper approached fusing with Lapis, which is uuuhhhhh... let's just say a theme that's potentially A LITTLE CONCERNING. Anyway I'm stoked to see you react to the rest of this show, the movie, and the sequel series!

We've been waiting SOOOO LONG for this reveal. You have no idea. After you said you and Rich's gems were Ruby and Sapphire. Oh, it's so good for you to see...the first part of this. Heh heh. Also, I'm not sure if you noticed the subtle changes in the show from episodic adventures to a more linear story, while also tackling a number of different topics in unique ways thanks to this world. I honestly didn't catch it till these last 2 that it had shifted when I first watched this.

Gem fusions as an analogy for relationships is always so crazyyyy. Whether work, platonic or even romantic. It makes lapis and jasper’s fusion even crazier bc they’re so dysfunctional you can see it. While garnet is nearly perfect form w just an extra third eye hehe

this isn't a spoiler, just an interesting design choice with all the fusions: note the number of hands. Garnet has only two, because they're always holding hands. Most other fusions have four or three because their relationships are platonic or sibling-like. The Jasper/Lapis fusion has six, because their relationship is so toxic.

I love "Stronger Than You" it's such a good song. Fun fact, the intro to the song is so similar to the intro to Bill Withers' "Just the Two of Us" they fit over each other perfectly. Both songs use the same chord progression and I think they sampled parts of the song as well. I like to think of it as another little nod to just how good Garnet is as a couple. I've been waiting for Alicia's reaction to this reveal for so long. I'm so glad she didn't put it together before the reveal too, it's just so perfect. <3

The best way to think about fusion forms is it's kind of a mixture of how the participants think of each other, in ruby and sapphires case it would be wise, stoic, and strong, for Malachite (which is Jasper and Lapus' fusion) we have an over powered beast of a monster which is how Jasper sees herself and how Lapus also sees Jasper

I always saw 2 Gem fusions as how stable the relationship was. Pearl and Amethyst? They can have friction with each other. Ruby and Sapphire? Perfect match. Garnet and Amethyst? Mostly stable physically, but they'd feed each other's bad sides a bit.

Garnet being a fusion explain the big smile in the Stevonnie episode, because garnet noticed that stevonnie was a fusion of a relationship between steven and connie, which they like each other even being just kids and dont get that info in them yet but the feelings are there. so thats why she says "you arent one person, you arent 2 persons, you are an experience, go and enjoy it" just like she said in the song with jasper: "But I am even more than the two of them Everything they care about is what I am I am their fury, I am their patience I am a conversation" Garnet isnt just 1+1=2, garnet is an "experience", she is the embodiment of ruby's and zaphire's love Funfact: in some countries that had/has anti lgbtq censorship in tv, they make ruby be "a guy" so they make the couple a "straight couple""... Rebecca sugar (creator of the show) noticed this and hated it since she on purpose made the couple like this and said that "gems dont have genders, they just love each other if they love each other, they jsut happen to look like girls", and later on she took cards in the matter IN THE SHOW in a way they werent able to censor it without having to cut the entire episodes

The line "You are an Experience, make sure you're a good one" from the Stevonnie Episode is one of my favorite lines in the show. It's Garnet explaining to a new Stable Fusion how to remain in harmony like she is. Sometimes I wonder how the series would have been if Steven and Connie never unfused after that point, but still maintained their friendship internally.

i mean, thats the end of the episode, they feel lonely since they are humans too, so it also explain that for humans isnt the same as for gems, they like being a fusion, but they like sharing stuff with each other being separate "beings", like when stevonnie got the donuts, it got 2 because thought of steven and connie sharing the moment and then feel lonely, even when it knows they are together, they are "alone together" as the episode is called, thats why they defuse at the end, they like more being together than "being a being together"

One of my favorite things about Garnet being a fusion is that it's more of a relationship than other instances in the show this far, and at the time this episode was released, TV networks were super against showing gay relationships. And so Rebecca Sugar (the shows creator) hid the fact that Garnet was a fusion from the network all the way until writing Jail Break so they had no choice but to let it air

Fusions are one of the best parts of Steven Universe. Its such a cool concept and the way they incorporate it into the storytelling is so good. Like how the appearance of the fusion is a reflection of the relationship of the gems. The more monstrous and unstable, the more toxic or or damaging the relationship is.
