I’m pretty sure that Pearl and Rose were a thing off and on over the years but every now and again Rose would hang out with a guy and Pearl would always just wait for her to grow bored of them… or wait for them to die. They’re immortal alien rocks.

I love how the show sometimes plays with its color scheme. I know its just lighting, but everything being shades of blue, turqouise and green in Lapis' dream is so interesting and eerie. It reminds of JoJo's, but because its mainly lighting, the color scheme change is diegetic.

Human gender norms definitely don't apply to gems. I think there are two ways to look at it, either gems are a mono-gendered species that is more or less feminine presenting depending on the gem, or every gem type is considered it's own gender which I think is the more interesting option because of spoiler reasons.

Rose DID chose Pearl, she has been choosing her for Thousands of Years, they wouldn’t be talking to each other the way they did back in the episode “Rose’s Scabbard” if they didn’t love each other. The thing is… Gems view love and intimacy very differently than humans, and what i mean by this is that… just because Rose started dating Greg doesn’t mean that she and Pearl stopped being a “thing”… Concepts like exclusivity doesn’t apply to gems Unless they want to (like Garnet). But… Greg was so impactful in Rose’s life that… in the end… she ultimately chose him (and Steven) over Pearl and the rest of the Crystal Gems…. But like i said… Rose and Pearl were always a thing… which makes Pearl’s character all the more tragic.

Technical_Analysis

I really like Pearl's fit in these flashbacks, it feels a lot simpler. It gives a vibe that when Rose was still around, Pearl was a lot less stressed out and tightly wound up.

The concept of love is still so mysterious to me even though I’ve spent 40 years being in love with different loves. I still don’t fully understand how it works. Why it fails how it sparks how it fades it always just feels like chaos to me and I miss it when it’s gone I love all the Greg and Rose backstory segments. They always make me emotional.
