PERFECT timing. I just rejoined so that I could see these episodes ASAP as I had to go have dinner and missed them on stream. Lets GOOO!

ExcelDamage

timing! just finished the last three videos and grabbed some breakfast, and sat down just as this popped in my inbox

Lucas David

I'm ready for the new Dexter reactions 😭

Xaerael Lockwood

"They feel weird on your fur" is a mega-callback to Catfingers

Marcello Reyes

Man, its crazy how you related you and Richard to Ruby and Sapphire. Its a perfect fit.

Nym

Won't be happening for at least 2 weeks as Pom is on a trip to Japan rn.

Lucas David

Darn. Early December sucks 😂

cyberspacecat

I know at least in my own case, not being very expressive with your emotions is not really about being stoic and masculine, it's just how some people experience emotion. It can also be another symptom of adhd, not to mention introversion, it doesn't make those feelings any less real.

Darc Hart94

Sardonyx was part of another steven bomb. After a few months they advertised an entire week of episodes involving Sardonyx related stuff. You're lucky you didn't have to wait for all the bombs

Vinne

Yeah stoicism being associated with masculinity is more of a societal thing

DaniDeFig

Sleepy~ "For now, Sugulite needs to be benched" Translation: Giving Nicki Minaj more lines is too expensive -_- Seeing the gems sit down and watch Crying Breakfast Friends with Steven is fantastic. Especially since the show makes it REPEATEDLY clear that they're NOT into it xD (But it's Steven's favourite show <3 ) "I see a tower built out of my mistakes" Ow. Amthyst's solo hurts to listen to (which is praise ^^') I honestly love how Ruby and Sapphire are extreme versions of recognizable personality types. The "Garnet & Pearl conflict" arc is SO good, and sooo important. But I was surprised we are here already ^^'

Pat Boku

Not so fun fun fact, when this episode aired, the actual keystone motel got review bombed. A ton of people put 1 star reviews down saying things like "the pool was empty and there were scorch marks everywhere" and "the diner next door was in ruins." Funny in concept, but not when it actually affects businesses.

cyberspacecat

Yeah, I wish we'd move past that, but I guess being in touch with your emotions is "woke" now. Gotta make space for all kinds of emotional honesty without judging people for it 🙌 (ftr I'm *not* saying Alicia is, just societally)

PhoenixVoyager

I still quote to myself sometimes "SQUARE PIZZA? What's wrong with this crazy state" LOL To see Ruby and Sapphire again is such a treat but at such a cost to how they both feel rightfully so towards Pearl. And yes, they are just the cutest.

cyberspacecat

Oh god, if only terminally online fandoms had the common sense and control not to bring that stuff onto innocent bystanders as a bit

Divi Forrester

This is my favorite pair of episodes in the show (I know this released in a steven bomb but these are basically a pair plotwise). My one favorite specifically is A Cry for Help, I just love how slimy what Pearl did was, in a weird way. Like Pearl isn't a bad person but it's also so in character for her because she is THAT needy and desperate. It conjures an image in my head of Pearl sitting in her room after the first time breaking the tower and she's just holding herself like a drug addict looking for her next fix, until she resolves to trick Garnet. I'm never going to forget the shot of Sugilite breaking the tower while Pearl looks so anxious that it looks like she just got stabbed, its stunning. I really like Keystone Motel too I just have more complicated thoughts about A Cry for Help.

PrivateXimmy

Honestly, not too much “happens” in these episodes? But these two back to back really solidify that this show works so damn well as a character drama first and foremost. I finally got around to watching Evangelion, and I honestly felt the same way about that show too. It’s masterful when series can use their higher fantasy or Sci-fi to ultimately serve the characters and their personal highs and lows.

PrivateXimmy

What’s crazy is: if Pearl had simply *asked* garnet to do it every now and then? Garnet would probably *agree!* Garnets incredibly pro fusion, and she loves her family! The *problem* is that, due to pearls lack of self confidence, she felt she had to deceive garnet to get what she wanted, at the expense of the whole planet too. Even when garnet rebuked Amythest at the start of the episode: she chided herself too. She wasn’t *blaming* amythest, but acknowledging the two get carried away together.

Shino302

Square Pizza is usually referred to as Sicilian Style Pizza and it’s delicious. It manages to be both crunchy and soft at the same time.

Mantis

Ep 12 is definitely one of my favorites! It seems very small peanuts compared to what we get later but when this aired this was huuuuuuge. I still feel warm watching it!

Mantis

Oh my god I forgot all about that... At LEAST give the place 5 stars if you're gonna joke!

BlastYoBoots

Pearl wasn't *technically* endangering them (much), because when she rebuilt the hub it was only putting out static instead of Peridot's repeated message. That said, EVERYTHING ELSE about what she was doing was totally messed up, especially with the fusion/relationship/intimacy analogies.

Kayden

Why do I only just realized that the Crying Friends thing foreshadowed the whole Pearl lying with the Pear fruit and Steven asking Garnet if she would forgive her omg.

Darc Hart94

The crying friends also have the same voice actors. With pearl being pear

Noahthehoneyboy

So Nikki really didn’t like how her character was portrayed, apparently she wasn’t told or shown anything until the episode was finished. The only time we’ll hear her again is in a clip episode later on in the series.

N00B

Stoicism is like armor. You can't treat wounds if there's a chestplate in the way. It has its use and being too emotional can often lead to your being controlled by your emotions instead of just tending to them, but being too stoic and bottling everything up has the issue that the cracks just get bigger and bigger until the person as a whole shatters.

Okarun

more queeeeeennn!!!

Sam Marsh

free cheers to our favourite pair of small lesbians in an overcoat.

T.Dot

im unsubscwibing until i see mor dextr

Kahliel

Ur not real

Technical_Analysis

All the talk about stoicism reminded me of a Star Trek: Voyager quote that stuck with me ever since I was a kid. "Do not mistake composure with ease." Tuvok's a Vulcan, they have a thing about lying, in that they don't. Bend the truth, stretch the truth, even conceal the truth, sure, but lie? Absolutely not. Tuvok did some undercover work as a spy in the Maquis, a group of freedom fighters, or terrorists, depending on who you ask. The commander of the ship he was aboard as a spy called him out on the lies he had to tell as a spy, Tuvok's explanation was basically, he wasn't lying, he was maintaining character. The commander calls this out as BS, and Tuvok replies with "Do not mistake composure with ease." He knew he was lying, but he had to do it for the job, and it took a toll on him. The part where you talked about having Rich explain his feelings to you really reminded me of that, in a very "I'm keeping myself cool, but on the inside, I'm a raging inferno" kind of way. A lot like Garnet before Ruby and Sapphire split up.

scatman's world

Stop our moms are fighting! Glad shes able to come around at communicate tho

Vinne

Yeah fusion is all about consent especially when it comes to garnet if she just asked garnet would've just replied 'Kay like she usually does. She's kinda stoic but not a dunce

cyberspacecat

I always associated it with home-made pizza because it's a good way to make a lot of pieces for the family, spread out perfectly even on the pan

Lydia

I love this shows writing and characters so much, and I know that I've said this in the Youtube comments before but I am SO HAPPY you're watching this show! It's seriously one of my favorite shows of all time.

Benjamin Keppel

These episodes are so good, but so hard to watch. Also, I quote "an Internet Man, if I'm not back in an hour call the police" every time I buy something on facebook market.

YukoValis

I love the second episode for a weird reason. The motel gives off this rather cozy night time vibe. Something about that speaks to me. It reminds me of the night skyline in courage the cowardly dog, specifically duck brothers.

Lyric

You don't have to announce it, just go. Corny.

Lyric

Ugh I'm soo happy you're watching this show <3 it's so good

Easy Mode - A.I

Realizing Garnet is the MOM and LEADER but at the same time she is just a kid (two in this case) deep down

Alp

Yes, new fusion, drama, Peridot, etc. What I care about is MOTHERFUCKIN AMETHYST SONG LET'S GOOOOOOO

Alp

also fuck yeah, really love that Amethyst sticks up for Pearl even after revealing it. she da best.

Toa of Z

So I don't know if anybody has explained this to Alicia yet, but by this point the show had started releasing in 5-episode bursts, with a new episode airing every day from Monday to Friday of a given week, followed by months of no new episodes. In the fandom, these were called "Steven Bombs" (a nod to a line from the season one episode "Garnet's Universe". ~~**MINOR SPOILER AHEAD**~~The episode where Pearl tricks Garnet was the first episode of a Steven bomb, and doesn't get resolved until the 5th and final episode of this particular Steven Bomb. Expect there to be 3 more episodes exploring how Pearl and Garnet fighting is affecting them and the people around them before they're able to make up on the fifth episode. ~~**MINOR SPOILER OVER**~~ One thing I love about this show is that it shows literally every person as flawed and damaged and capable of screwing up, but how that doesn't make any of them irredeemable, as long as they acknowledge it and want to try to make it up. I hate SU "analysis" that just points to different characters saying "Amethyst is a bad character because she emotionally manipulated greg" or "Pearl is awful for how she treats Amethyst and/or Greg." The point of the show is that *everybody* is damaged and has tendency to do toxic shit, because that's just real life, and most of the time we need help seeing how fucked up what we're doing is, and help fixing it.

Toa of Z

Steven definitely gets some of the more out-of-pocket bizarre shit he says from Greg, and I love them for it.

Donkle

I COULD be misremembering, but I think people brought this up during one of the streams

Donkle

The second chapter of my webcomic (writing the script for that chapter right now actually) is visually going to be pretty inspired by this episode. I realized that when I started writing in that the protagonist and his cousin to go stay at a motel, that all I could think of was this exact episode and the visuals. Granted, I'm taking it a more spooky ghost route, but still

Donkle

hope the door has splinters when it slams on your asscheeks

Donkle

I've never heard this in my life and would like a source from Sugar or the cast or even Nikki implying this, because from everything I've ever heard it's only been a financial and time-based issue. Hence the joke later on "she's not technically in the episode so do we still need to pay her?"

Donkle

I think the concern is that either Peridot could get the actual communication working while it's functioning, or that the signal alone would be a spark reaching out to the broader interstellar community

Donkle

She doesn't take it lightly though, so I don't think Garnet would just do it on a whim, but if I feel like Pearl (and Amethyst tbh) had opened up sooner in their lives about why they enjoy fusing with Garnet so much (not just that it makes them 'stronger' physically, but emotionally as well) then Garnet would have likely understood and been able to redirect their feelings sooner. The flaw is that Pearl thinks she even needs to fuse to be complete in the first place, and wouldn't be solved if Garnet just gave in and did it more.

Donkle

Exactly, 10x funnier if you do a 5 star rating and then make jokes. Don't actually screw with someone's business for a laugh.

Mantis

Amethyst was just like yeah that’s fucked up but I get it and I love that about her

Razgar_dar

Car manufacturers charge game devs for using their Brand of cars its not unlikely Nikki would do the same thing.

James S

Damn, the explain what you're feeling in words to me from the Ruby-Sapphire argument is something that would have been really good for me and my ex-wife to try. That was a big gap in our communication. But she would get super emotional when upset and I'd usually withdraw or do a Greg in trying to smooth over things without being confrontational.

Kalinka

i just saw that the animation director is calles nick demayo

Moviejunkie

Our mom’s are fighting.😭

Jennifer Dawes

My girlfriend and I (also a woman) are totally like Ruby and Sapphire. She's the one who gets mad/emotional and I'm the solution oriented one (she's also more butch than me which increases the comparisons, haha). It's not that I don't feel, I do, but my first focus is resolving shit, I can be mad later. I don't know if it's related, but I'm the oldest of 5 and she's the youngest of 5, growing up I had to be the responsible, get shit done sibling (I still am to be honest), while she didn't have that on her.

T.Dot

i hope your coffee tastes great this morning. bitch

David

Cringe, why don’t you just go and shut up?

AnaGothic

I was like, "Why do I recognize Sardonyx's Voice" and then I looked it up and it was because she was part of the original Run of Wicked, and then I remembered.

T.Dot

why are yall all so hostile, im just jokin

Fuhki Shoga

16:13 Steven was talking about the time he turned into a blob of cats.

BlastYoBoots

RUBY DETAIL I FORGOT TO MENTION! If you remember, her gem is on her LEFT hand, but her gauntlet forms at the diner table over her RIGHT hand. That means that as Garnet, Ruby and Sapphire are forming their gauntlets over THE OTHER'S gem to protect them!!!

Divi Forrester

Pearl: covers Steven's eyes from Garnet and Amethyst's dancing, Also Pearl: shimmies her shoulders and makes bedroom eyes at Garnet in front of Steven

Vinne

Steven is a really morbid kid tbh

Cali Jester

I really love the Keystone episode because it's a rare moment we get with Ruby and Sapphire. Their little flirty moment was so good.

Miah

I know it's played off as a joke, but I've always felt really bad for Greg in this one, his whole trip is overshadowed by their fighting, and he even gets banned from a diner it seems like he genuinely likes. The same is true for Steven, of course, but at least his feelings get adressed

Dip Ateer

Man it ain't fair being food motivated.
