Umm actually I like Jasper so not nobody. I would say that they both went through an insane amount of trauma. It easy to pick and choose sides but ultimately they were both fused at the bottom of the ocean constantly battling for control

I’m glad this episode gave Alicia a new appreciation for Vidalia as a mother. Also, I love how Rose’s monologue is a deep reminder that while change is scary, it is a fundamental part of life.

Yeah I was waiting for her to see this episode and react to just how Toxic the relationship actually was and how despite both knowing it's bad, it's a feeling of comfort and negativity that actively gets SOME kind of reaction that keeps them together. Real world parallels hit hard. Shame CTN hated SU cause it got too real... also didn't have 'boy toy' market but that was a whole diffrent issue.

It's easy to not feel sympathy for Jasper cause she's the villain, but Lapis still did a really fucked up thing with the fusion bit, even if it was for 'good' reasons on top of her openly admitting she enjoyed hurting Jasper. They are such a good example of a mutually abusive relationship.

I think also people give Lapis empathy right off the bat( which you should), like even Alicia when we 1st met Lapis it was stated that we should try to understand them and it’s good that Steven was trying even Peridot was a very quick turn around however Jasper doesn’t get the same, the last time we saw them together Lapis was quiet literally holding her prisoner under water and she fought to come up for air “ control “ and was pulled right back down almost immediately it made me feel for her but I guess that’s not a normal thing. She a brute but like peridot said she was just her guard. I don’t blame Lapis wholely I just also can’t fully blame Jasper

God, framing Malachite as an abusive/toxic relationship is such a fantastic way to approach that kind of subject in a kids show. I've been exactly where Lapis is in that episode, I still kinda am. It's so hard to break out of that pattern of abuse. You do start to miss it. Not the abuse directly, but everything surrounding it. Your mind emphasizes the good parts and makes normal relationships feel almost boring in comparison, because you're so used to being on edge or in some kind of conflict that it starts to feel wrong when it's not there. It's a terrifyingly realistic depiction of that kind of relationship
