Interesting. Reminds me a bit of Shield Hero. Teoritta feels like kind of a mix of Aqua and Megumin to me, but more competent and less crazy and stupid. I’m also super thankful this isn’t like the Ulysses: Jeanne d’Arc anime where the protagonist had to kiss his loli companion every time he wanted to activate her super powers. Here it was just a kiss on the hand and head pats afterwards.

tbh I liked shield hero's first season a lot, and hearing the premise of this new anime and someone comparing the two instantly got me hooked into the first episode

I kinda guessed Goddesses exhaustion thing, but i assumed it was Teoritta being so powerful that she had greater power than other Goddesses, but more she uses her power more burned out her hair would be. Kinda like candle. However exhaustion thing was explained at end, it opens a big thing to theorize: -Are Goddesses made using Demon Blight as core? -Is air around Demon Lords "toxic" that any being with no protection against it gets corrupted? -Does Faerie need to strike a wound to a Goddess for her to succumb to corruption when she becomes exhausted? Also there seem to be some either very advanced science buildings that few people have or setting of Sentenced to Be a Hero is post-apocalyptic story.

a couple weeks ago I saw an anime Leviathan and it's super good. The pacing drags on a bit but the story and world building and animation is amazing. I kept thinking wonder what Alicia would think. When you don't have so much on your plate you should check it out

I liked a lot of this one. The thing that really bugged me though is the amount of time wasted in people delaying. That whole "no I don't wanna do that" etc etc. There was a lot of that in this episode. Also that Dotta spends 5 minutes running from a single monster, but then later can handle a group? That is weird.

Eh not really when you think about it. He had his hands full with the coffin during the chase and was in severe pain while under the log. He didn't really have a chance to fight back. As for the whole "no I don't wanna do that" thing, that's just kind of people. In real life you will run in to situations where people just refuse to do things even if its the smart or right thing to do.

So I’d like to make an argument in favour of Captain Kivia, since she survived the battle I feel she’s going to become a major character moving forward. The corruption that we’re witnessing in this anime in the government of the good guys, is the kind that usually doesn’t filter down to the ranks of the low level officers or the rank and file (I cite Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood as an example), so more than likely, the knights we’ve met so far, including Kivia, likely have no part in Xylo’s framing. Instead what I think is more likely is they are just part of the faithful who have been told what to believe by the higher ups, and when the corrupt higher ups have the evidence to back up their story and make the accused look like the worst criminal imaginable, especially in what appears to be a religious based society, it’s going to be very hard for Xylo to convince anyone of his innocence, because to believe him is to go against the church and their faith, and that’s a TERRIFYING prospect. This would perfectly explain the behaviour of the knights and Kivia towards Xylo, they’re not being cruel they just genuinely believe he’s a monster, regardless of his actions. My suspicion is that at some point, the truth will be revealed, maybe all in one go or incrementally and Kivia will come around. Actually it’s more accurate to say that I think Terroita is going to vouch for him in the next episode and force Kivia to acknowledge that Xylo saved all their lives, which will lead to them working together for the foreseeable future and through this they grow closer and learn more about each other (Potential love interest for Xylo maybe?) and eventually Kivia will come round to his side and together they’ll expose the corruption of the Church. But yea, that’s my argument and take on Kivia from just watching this episode, if I’m wrong, I’m wrong, but she seems too cool and too central to be a side character and I wanted someone to give her some credit. ALSO, does not her predicament feel eerily similar to Xylo’s, no reinforcements, stuck on the front lines, escorting a Goddess… and then there’s that priest at the beginning who deliberately got a holy knight killed from the transport unit that was transporting Terroita. Me thinks the Church tried again to corrupt a Goddess only this time they were trying with one that was asleep and unpacted to anyone, and sacrificed Kivia’s unit to make it happen. Food for thought.

the art style is actually really fucking cool, you can really smell the crunch culture on this one, i fine vintage (dont know if there was crunch), but it reminds me of frieren, but also some older Disney stuff with the backgrounds, the squirrel at the very start in particular.

The problem with that is that based on this episode Kivia and her Knights explicitly said that they were going there to die for their honor. It wasn't like with Xylo who was tricked into an unwinnable battle on a rescue mission expecting reinforcments that would never come, they went there in full knowledge that it's stupid and impossible and that they are gonna die but it's ok because it will be an honor for them. Also doing bad things in the name of your religion doesn't make you any less of a horrible being just because you believe yourself to be on gods side.

And the problem there is Kivia and her knights BELIEVE they’re are on the side of righteousness, not that they’re doing bad things, because that’s the narrative that the church has sold them. Episode 2 actually proves my point that Kivia is more than she appears because she wants to go rescue civilians trapped in the mines, but is told no by the Church official, that doesn’t sound like the actions of a bad person to me. The problem with these kinds of societies is it’s very difficult to separate who is truly good and who is corrupt, especially when that society has made you a pariah like it has to Xylo. Ironically, I have faith in Kivia, episode two has already given me hope, now we just need to build on that.

Interesting how much more "Douche" the MC is in the anime version. By the point they saved the Knights in the camp, he already made the contract with her and was way less "growling voice" from the look. Not sure why the anime decided to push it back so far and make him that much more of a gruff "asshole type" character
