If i had a nickel alicia bent over backwards to try and defend an asshole character. Her friend is so real for trying to stop her from pausing in that scene lol. Godspeed king.

Shank Mugen

When were the other times?

Okarun

dooo moreeeeee we demand what we pay for queeeeen!!!

Okarun

in all the anime she's watched

Equinox

If it makes you feel better, the actor and actress for nancy and jonathan are a couple in real life

BlindEyiezz Z

Steve isn’t an asshole, but I understand where you are coming from lol

Gwen harris

🤞 I need the last two episodes. She is going to freak.

Shadowsofpain

"Johnathan loses these" just before Jonathan won those lol

Jayden Jones

Jonathan whooped Steve’s ass lmao

Sam Smith

Dustin is my favorite. He's just the best bean. I love that jolly smile of his

KokoPelly

Yeeesss! Hop and Dustin are my favs too! This series was done so well, the story was absolutely captivating

xman t

Man. I love Steve, but there is no excusing/justifying what he did this episode. Also, I'm glad that you brought up the fact that what that woman told Nancy was bs. Even though Jonathan likes Nancy, that's not at all why he fought Steve

xman t

He was in that moment. But in general, you're right

King'sBard

Dustin peak character

Yovan_Night (Purple Rain🟪)

Yeah, fuck Steve lmaoooo. Getting so upset with Jonathan about the picture (getting mad at him is warranted mind you) yet doing the absolute MOST to defend Steve publicly labeling Nancy as a slut. That mf knows right from wrong, and he wouldn’t let his friends push him into doing it. He already set them straight before in the car, so we know that he’d stop them from doing anything he considered to be “going too far”. Steve knew exactly what he was doing, and that shit isn’t warranted no matter the reason. And all that’s not even mentioning what he said about Jonathan and his family. Steve deserved every bit of the ass whooping he got.

Bob

I forgot they actually had the line "read any Stephen King?" in here. Crazy, cause this feels like an adaption of a Stephen King book that Stephen King didn't write, know what I mean?

BakaSama

I gotta say, the defense of Steve being “yeah he does douchey things, but apologizes afterwards” sounds pretty problematic. And, Jonathan did a bad taking pictures of Nancy without consent, but that doesn’t get a pass vs. the guy who very publicly called her a slut does? It strikes me as just a tad hypocritical and another case of Alicia’s fondness for Toxic Characters get the better of her.

Leticia

nah I love Steve but that was just nasty behaviour

BlindEyiezz Z

I’m not upset at the stance and defending Steve vs Jonathan, cause I was completely expecting this lmao. Alicia tends to latch onto good but toxic characters and it a lot more forgiving towards them, and holds other good characters mistakes against them for the whole run time of the show and view them differently despite “acknowledging” they’re a good character. She’s doing it right now in Hell’s Kitchen, she’s very harsh against the contestants like Ralph that do certain selfish things in the contest, but Micheal, one of the more toxic manipulative ones on the cast, is her favorite 🤷‍♂️ that’s just kinda how it rolls, I ain’t mad about it, but I know to expect Steve getting endless passes and praise, and if Jonathan even breathes wrong, she’s gonna criticize it.

Vivica the witch

That woman looks so much like Jane Lynch its throwing me off

Bigdawg

~36:00 It is so gratifying to me that just like me on first watch Alicia recognizes the absolute truth that Steve Harrington has never not once in his whole entire life done anything wrong ever. Absolute king recognition

Twiska Brand

Guys... Mike literally pushed Lucus first. After he called Eleven out for being a traitor, monster, letting Will die, etc. He was wrong about all that but Mike did get physical first. I know you guys don't like him but you can't just make stuff up.

js

Personally I think if you ever publicly humiliate someone, that person should cut off relations with you for forever, no way back. No apologies, no "oops misunderstanding", no excuses. So if you ever do this to anyone, be absolutely certain that you don't want anything to do with them ever again, because they're perfectly within their right to never talk to you again.

Joseph CroenianGamer

nah, alicia you are being annoying whit this one, this is steve lower point

js

This pretty much. The timid guy makes one impulsive creepshot that doesn't even show anything and it's like "CP CP CP CP ALERT" and he's tainted forever. The hot toxic guy humiliates a girl publicly for the whole town and she pulls out the 15th "W move" and "hear me out" to excuse his behavior yet again.

Supermew

"He's a good human being" Nah, I think after you talk shit about a dead kid in front of his brother THE DAY AFTER THE FUNERAL, that stops applying. I don't think "being broken-hearted" excuses that, y'know?

Karma

Ok so what you're telling me is it's all keys fault. Imagine having to go to bed

Omegalock

Mike pushed first. Lucas did a hard poke, but that wasn’t to start a fight, it was to make a point. And then Mike tried to tackle him to the ground and was on top of Lucas most of the time, then when Lucas got on top that’s when El pushed him

Lightinger

Why start this show right at the death of the hype

CarcosanTimeshare

Having finished the series recently, I am having an incredible time rewatching it all over again with Alicia and... the funny guy with the bear ears. I am very bad with names.

Yovan_Night (Purple Rain🟪)

Exactly, cause like… do people realize just how terrible of a thing it is to publicly shame a person? Especially for being a ‘slut’ like what Steve did to Nancy? That’s potentially life altering shit, especially back then. You have to be a fucked individual to even CONSIDER going out of your way to spray paint a message like that. Hell, if Stranger Things took place in this age, Steve would’ve done something even worse with the technology that we have now.

PhoenixVoyager

Steve doing that to Nancy is crossing a line. That's public shame. That is levels of bad. Jonathan fighting Steve for disrespecting his 'dead" brother was deserved. Hated Steve for doing what he did about Nancy and saying what he said to Jonathan. Absolutely terrible.

Stormofdragons

I can understand defending Steve when he did what he did to Nancy because he thought that she was cheating on him and so he acted out of anger and did something he shouldn't have done but trying to defend him when he starts talking shit about Will going missing is crazy.

Nym

The other guys name is KeyAndEnter

Ink Magus

Steve's lowest moment. It's all up hill from here and that boy reaches the clouds with how he will soar.

NerdyGothKitty

35:00 - 41:00 Alicia really out here defending public vengeful slut shaming, homophobic slurs, trash talking families the day after the funeral of their young child, and general bullying. No reason Steve has comes anywhere close to justifying what he does here, and I seriously question the morality of anyone who suggests otherwise.

Eric

"Only love make you that stupid" yeah, that or saying "Yeah, your dead lil bro? Yeah, he deserved it cause you and your momma crazy". Like, what do you mean old lady? I never liked that scene, seemed like the show tried to push a love relationship between the two too hard.

Kawaii Edgelord

She wasn't justifying, she was just saying she gets where he's coming from.

Bologna Amputation

She got some of this type of pushback during Falcon and the Winter Soldier, too. A lot of people not getting that understanding does not mean condoning or agreeing with. People talk about how nobody has media literacy today, but I think some people just don't have cognitive moral literacy either.

DarkSedgie25

She isnt condoning the behavious. Shes commenting on how the character is written. He acts exactly like his character would. Theres a difference between condoning and understanding. A character acting like this makes them feel real.

Yovan_Night (Purple Rain🟪)

Didn’t she say that she’d do the same thing Steve did? (Publicly humiliating Nancy I mean) does that not fall under defending the action itself?

NerdyGothKitty

Literally the first comments she makes when she sees the ‘slut’ graffiti are “W Steve”, that she doesn’t think this makes him bad because he’s just acting in accordance with his circumstances, and that the fact that Steve will apologize makes it okay. Then, during the scene where Steve confronts Jonathan she says “hear me out” about Steve’s motivations and that Steve is a “good human being” and “just a sad boy” (both labels that fit Jonathan way better btw). Then she talks about how Steve will “beat Byers ass” and how Steve deserves respect for keeping the fight 1v1. She’s basically glazing him the whole time. Not even once during that whole scene does she condemn anything Steve does or show any sympathy for Jonathan.

Yovan_Night (Purple Rain🟪)

Deadass bro, I had to go back watch the vid to make sure I wasn’t tripping, she GLAZING tf outta Steve😭

NerdyGothKitty

Yeah. And Jonathan's crimes are what? Snapping one, maybe a few tops, non-nude photos of a girl his age at a house party that he had no intention of ever sharing with anyone, and in the pre-digital era where random photos being 'leaked' was infinitely harder? Meanwhile Steve publicly slut shames Nancy in front of the whole town, vandalizes a movie theater, does minimum hundreds of dollars of property damage to Jonathan, throws around homophobic slurs, insults Jonathan's family and rubs salt in the wound of his dead brother one day after the funeral, and likely a bunch more off-screen given his bests friends, the people he chooses to be around, are constantly being bullies.

NerdyGothKitty

Yeah. Nancy and Jonathan's fight with Steve is a direct parallel to Mike, Dustin, and Eleven's 'fight' with Troy. With those fights you're supposed to be rooting for the bullied kids finally fighting back against their bullies... not defending the bullies.

TurtleKungFu

You're taking Alicia way too seriously.

The Emperor Moth

Everyone talking about Alicia glazing Steve (which she does but not as badly as people are saying but still). But I forgot how funny that weeny cop was who tried seperate the two, got elbowed in the face, and was like "ah my nooose!" and chasing the other kids "hey come back here you punks D:"

Dylan

Its so weird how many people are excusing Jonathan being a creep But acting like steve is completely irredeemable, people aren't perfect and can lash out and do things they know are wrong when they feel hurt, acting like steve is a bad person for that but Jonathan is a good guy because he's just awkward and troubled is insane

Speed1247

He's literally at his lowest moment. Even a good guy can do bad shit when they have their heart broken.

kinonikobii

Agree to disagree but its never cool to talk about someone's dead little brother as a justification to beat their asses, that is for sure not good bean energy. But I do love both their characters so lowk I get it lol

Dylan

Public humiliation has been how people react to being wronged for basically all of our existence what are you talking about its terrible? Is it wrong to publicly shame someone for stealing or murder?

David

And yet it’s very typical of old ladies to say that shit, not saying you’re wrong, but that lady doesn’t really know what happened, she only knows there was a fight and a girl was caught in the middle of that, so isn’t it only logical for her to think they fought over Nancy?

David

Normally I agree with everything Alicia says, but if you going to hold grudges against Jonathan for having done some creepy stuff, like most kids do and more importantly, he didn’t humiliate anyone publicly, I think you can’t defend in any way or capacity Steve after publicly humiliating and slut shaming Nancy, that’s being hypocrite and having favoritism towards one character over another, so don’t try to defend Steve, just admit it you prefer Steve over Jonathan

Yovan_Night (Purple Rain🟪)

… are you deadass trying to compare what happened between Nancy and Jonathan to stealing or murder?

Yovan_Night (Purple Rain🟪)

How are we “taking Alicia way too seriously” when we’re just discussing what she said in the vid?

EnderSlayer366

the real answer is that both of them were in the wrong for different things and are both entirely redeemable

Dylan

Which part the cheating or the cp

GlamourGhost

1. Do you think public humiliation is as bad as committing a sex crime? Jonathon took non-consensual photos of a minor undressing, possibly worse. Jonathon wasn't doing "some creepy stuff", he was committing a sex crime. 2. Steve didn't do the graffiti. He told his friends he caught Nancy cheating on him, then they decided to slut shame her. Was it Steve's responsibility to stop them while his heart is freshly crushed? So... like... if one person took non-consensual photos of you undressing without your knowledge, and another person posted mean things about you in public... which would you be more willing to forgive? Maybe you would actually prefer the invasion of your privacy. I don't know you. But this is not hypocrisy.

Yovan_Night (Purple Rain🟪)

They’re BOTH shitty things to do. Jonathan was wrong to take those pictures, everyone gets that. However, Steve’s actions would have drastically more of an effect on Nancy’s life as a whole. He chose to tell his friends that he caught Nancy cheating him, so it WAS his responsibility to stop them from doing something he would’ve considered to be too far. He’s not a little baby with no concept of right and wrong. He knew full what the repercussions of spreading that lie about Nancy could do and he chose to let it happen anyway. If we compare the effects of Jonathan’s and Steve’s actions together (again, both are wrong) then it’s obvious that what Steve did would have far more long lasting effects on Nancy’s (and potentially her whole family’s) life. That’s why people are calling Alicia a hypocrite in this scenario. Both Jonathan and Steve did some bad shit, but she was defending Steve of any blame and wrongdoing despite that. Me personally, I’d hate both Jonathan and Steve if they did that shit to me, but that’s not what the discussion is about.

Bob Mcblob

"some creepy stuff" bro he was actively committing a sex crime. And if I caught my partner in bed with another man I most certainly wouldn't stop my friends from "slut shaming" her. Keep in mind only we have context to the fantasy shenanigans in this show, from Steve's perspective he caught his girlfriend cheating, no real life explanation could get you out of that one.

Lights⁷

I usually share many opinions with Alicia; we like many characters in common, and I'm aware that many of them exhibited very toxic and questionable behavior. But they eventually have good redemption arcs, and we even end up empathizing with characters that many consider unlikable. However, it's important not to end up justifying these characters' bad actions, even if you can understand them from a more empathetic perspective. I think that's what happened with Alicia. I don't think she intended to justify Steve's actions, but the way she worded them (and the obvious distinction she makes with Jonathan's character) made it seem that way. That's all. I just joined Patreon today, and it was interesting to see the discussion that arose. I'm looking forward to the rest of the chapters. ♥

Mike

I get liking Steve but the man publicly slut shamed Nancy in a small town. The 80s were already an incredibly misogynistic time as it was, adding public humiliation onto that just makes things worse. There's a reason Steve keeps those friends around and it's because he's low key a douche. He and his friends intentionally placed a social target on Nancy's that would be *very* hard to come back from. Even with the context of him being brokenhearted, calling the entire Byers family a bunch of screw ups and a disgrace to the community is just insane.

Saltyspitoon_

nahhh there's a difference between "feeling some type of way" and publicly calling a girl a slut in front of the whole town

Saltyspitoon_

lol also stop trying to reason away what the characters are doing just cause you like them

Credpath05

omg there’s gonna be so much Steve glaze throughout this show i don’t know if i can handle it especially during season 4 where duffer brothers try and push THAT relationship

Matty C

Nahhhhhhhhh. We can't be doing the "he's just a teenager" crap with this one. Like that was actually kind of disappointing to listen to. Doing the whole, "imma sound really toxic" ain't all that cute in this instance.

Zeex

So im gonna join in on this conversation and say while what Steve did was absolute SHITE. I also can understand where the man is coming from. There's a difference between justifying it and understanding it. I gotta say idk if i could keep a "good face" while my gf is off sleeping with the man who stalked her with photos. Just saying guys. Did he go overboard? Yeah, people do that when they get emotional. But christ, the whole one side or the other mentality is kinda stupid. Can't dumb teens be dumb teens? xD

Matty C

Its not really about them being dumb teens tho, its more towards Alicia's reaction to Steve in this instance. Like this scene wasnt written so the audience would go, "aw, I understand why he did that" it was written purposefully to make Steve a temporary villian, which is why they made his actions so heinous and reprehensible. Like saying, "hes just a dumb teen" is like saying, "boys will be boys" it creates a toxic environment where these actions aren't taken seriously, which leads to more serious actions being taken.

Jane Doe

The machete/gun quote is actually a fun variation on the original William Blake line: If the fool would persist in his folly he would become wise. Folly is the cloke of knavery. Shame is Prides cloke. ~ Prisons are built with stones of Law, Brothels with bricks of Religion. This is from the Proverbs of Hell, or the larger work "The Marriage of Heaven and Hell."

Gildarts1#fan

Steve was so in the wrong here ngl

Sean Forster

Okay I made and deleted a few comments in the previous videos, but anyone else getting a lil triggered by Alicia being so on the side of the bullies? Like every damn time she be siding with them.

Kap

It's weird as hell how she'll cheer on people standing up to bullies 99% of the time, but when the person getting bullied goes against her ship, she'll cheer on the bullies. Steve and Nancy had a one-time hook-up and we're supposed to think they have a strong connection? No way getting dicked down for the first time in high school is that good. She and Jon are dealing with the disappearances of people close to them, naturally they are going to connect over that and work together to uncover the truth. "Steve is so caring. Steve will understand." Clearly he doesn't because he just assumed shit and decided to air out Nancy's business to the town.

Kap

If you've taken a photo at the beach and some random woman in a bikini is in the background, congrats you've commited a sex crime. Nevermind that when Nancy stripped to her underwear in episode 2 we see the blinds are closed but somehow they were magically wide open in episode 3.

Kap

Jon wasn't posting the pictures all over school. Steve made a very public statement of calling Nancy a slut

Kap

People claiming Alicia doesnt condone, but we never hear her call it out and condem it.

Kap

Steve broke his own heart by making assumptions. He could've saved himself from it by just talking to her. So much for being caring and understanding. Dude just wanted to have a bootycall

Kap

Never thought I'd see Alicia condoning bullying. Shit is wild

Dylan

Why would someone not sharing the cp they took make the fact they took it any better

Aiko

Alright, the people in the comments are going wild, and i'm scared for this episode since i never watched the show before, but i hope it's not as bad as the pushback she's getting right now

Aiko

Alicia, no i'm sorry but just no, even as a teen, this is to much, a better reaction would be to talk to the person, ask what is going on, but doing this for the whole twon to see? Slut shaming her? That's to much

Aiko

Bro, you know we are talking about how Steve slut shamed Nancy publicly, that's fucked up, and there wasn't a cheating part either, she didn't cheat on him, she went out to find her friend with the only person that actually believed her, got traumatized, went home with him and he comforted her, there was no cheating

Aiko

Hon, no, even if he appologizes, this is so fucked up

Loath vile

It’s a show, not that deep.

Loath vile

You’re replying to every comment upset and writing essays over what she said lmao, remember: its a supernatural sci-fi show you’re trying to push real world logic on

Aquanubis

I don't get the hate Alecia is getting here. I'm totally on Steve's side here too. They arent bullies, they are reacting on emotion lol. And the reasoning makes sense. I mean, what byres did was way worse imo

A

You keep saying “kids do that shit”…? Why are you talking like Adults don’t do the Exact same things in real life, ALL the time. Also Steve had every reason to believe she cheated on him. She lied about what she’s doing and who she was with, then he finds her with the guy who took pics of her in her room on the bed with her… (cheating doesn’t have to mean they hooked up, you can cheat and not hook up)

Shank Mugen

Do you have specifics or am I to just agree based on "Trust me bro"?

TessHKM

Public humiliation, especially in a smal (conservative) town in the 80s, is arguably far worse. Like realisticall, and incident like this could genuinely prevent Nancy from ever having friends or forming meaningful relationships with anyone in Hawkins, ever. The sex crime is arguably "just" a trespass against Nancy personally.

TessHKM

The fact that public humiliation is so common throughout history is exactly why it's common knowledge how terrible it is to do to someone.

TessHKM

Bc sharing humiliating information/photos about someone can do really serious harm, which makes it a bad thing to do

David

Bro I’m not even gonna argue with you you’re the type of guy who can say that without hesitation how can public humiliation even be a good revenge against someone who you think cheated on you, just deal with it privately, you’re old enough to have proper conversation and while he did do an offense, sex crime is a big word for simple pictures of someone who’s is changing in front of a window, please consider that what you said is also an offense to people who really suffer from real sex crimes, well in the end the 2 of them did wrong, but while Jonathan was just a weirdo, doing creepy stuff, Steve was committing a real crime by publicly defaming someone
