As someone who spend a decent amount of time around Lake Superior, this is pretty accurate to how insane the weather around big lakes can get. I'm somewhat distantly related on my mother's side to Edmund Fitzgerald, who had a ship named after him that sank in Superior in the 70's that famously killed all hands aboard.

I just realized, but they have whole tomes for a single spell. It's probably a "gaming" stereotype, but I wonder if those spells might be more complicated than they seem.

When Eisen is doing his handstand, his beard stays in place, not bent to gravity.

2:25 why not? Is this not a reasonable place to park?

I love the little part where she keeps flipping the blank pages, because she wants there to be more. She's not ready for it to end still.

I really hope after the ferry guy got the books he wanted they put up a new barrier to protect all those books considering how terrible the weather gets there. It would be such a shame for them to all get destroyed in the next storm considering how old they all probably are (at least several decades some of which could even be centuries old)

There could be other similar spells, or variations in the grimoires. We do see that sometimes the spell is a single page (like the one to find lost accessories from S1).

Yeah, I had a friend that lived near the Great Lakes (don't remember which one), and they would always complain about the weather.

On one hand, I love the fight scenes in Frieren and I think it has some of the cleanest combat animation I've ever seen. On the other hand, I think it makes perfect sense not to focus on the battles, but to focus instead on the journey. Frieren isn't about fighting - it's about enjoying all parts of the adventure, big or small.

Atomkaktus

the way she goes through the empty pages like she was hoping for more 😢

Frieren is both baby & grandma

Of course Frieren has gorgeous animation and battle scenes, it is a daily life anime after all.

Well the way I always interpreted it is that in order to make something with magic, you have to visualize it perfectly, down to the smallest and most obscure details. Stuff most people wouldn't even think about. For example, let's say you want to make a field of flowers. It's not good enough to just think about what flowers look like, you have to think about the material making the petals, the stem, the roots, the connections between them, how they're going to go in the soil in what arrangement, etc. It's a LOT of mental work, and a lot of knowledge on the subject before you can even get started. That's what grimoires are: the detailed instructions on what you need to envision to make the spell possible. And that's just for replicating existing materials. It's far more advanced to create things that don't obey the normal laws of physics, which is how you get things like hardened blood, a cutting force that can slice through plenty of things it shouldn't, swords that can change density, etc. That's what separates the spells you can learn in a few hours from spells that take years or even decades to develop/master. Genuinely the coolest magic system I've seen in fiction.
