FUN FACT For those who missed the connection between this Episode and Deadpool 2 and 3. ShadowStar. from our X force temp group.. He mentions he is from MOJO World!! I personally dont know his old design but I wouldn't be surprised if he is in the background this Episode!

I love they made the connection to the arcade TMNT game ... and not the arcade X-Men game it was directly referencing with some of the graphics & audio.

So one fun bts fact that I think elevates this episode... Alyson Court, the original voice for Jubilee, chose not to return for 97. She felt that the character, who is Asian-American in the comics, should be voiced instead by an Asian actress, much like the change made to Storm's VA in the series' original run (They cast a white actress for the pilot, but quickly changed course and re-dubbed the first episode). They brought her back for this episode as the "older" Jubilee, a way to symbolically pass the torch to Holly Chou.

They also cast an Australian guy for Wolverine in the pilot. A character who would go on to be most famously portrayed in live action by an actual Australian. (One who didn't know wolverines were real animals until after filming the first X-men movie started, and spent his time prepping for the role studying wolves instead.)

Honestly, I was really hoping for the "Welcome to die!" line from the game's Magneto.

I think you're mixing up your trivia my guy. The "Pryde of the X-Men" pilot had an Australian Wolverine, but while that pilot affected some of the decisions for the 90s cartoon (such as the decision to go with Jubilee instead of Kitty), it was the pilot for a completely different series. AFAIK, Cal Dodd was always Wolverine in X-Men TAS and 97. I was referring to the original version of "Night of the Sentinels", which was originally recorded by a different, white actress (afaik we don't know who it was) but then re-dubbed by the American actress Iona Morris... who in turn was replaced by Canadian actress Alison Sealy-Smith for season 2 onwards (she also re-dubbed all of season 1 for subsequent broadcast airings). Looking it up further, apparently the original actress recorded more than I remembered (all of season 1), but was recast before the series actually aired. Wild.

Bolivar *is* a real name, believe it or not. It's a Basque surname used in Spanish-speaking countries, most famously by Simon Bolivar (the man who led Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, Peru, and Venezuela to independence). It has, like many surnames, been used as a personal name at times. And yes, Bolivia is named after Bolivar.

*Shatterstar. He’s better than humans at everything.

Ant with the goated references, first time I have ever heard someone reference Stay Alive

Verdigree

Everyone I've heard from who saw or worked on this show agrees Jubilee and Roberto's thing is kind of an afterthought, the chronology falls apart if you look too close, their romance falls flat because because these are two VERY queer-coded characters who don't have shared stories, so there's not really history to build off, they're the only ones their same age so they're together, but it is very 90s for queer guys and girls to date

John

it's the X-Men, they're ALL queer coded. intentionally or not.

Yan

yeah but cmon pronouncing it baw-liver and not bo-leev-ar is kinda crazy, itd be like pronouncing 'Juan' as 'Jew-on'

Aliulo

Anglicization of surname pronunciation is pretty common in the US. Just ask Ralph Macchio or W.E.B. Du Bois.
