Him dying works because it is abrupt, you feel exactly how the characters themselves feel. Sometimes bad shit happens and there nothing you can do about it. if he was a character you really liked because of how big a presence Kamina was in their lives. Its also the show giving you a wake up call and say hey yeah no this is about Simon and his coming of age story and now he's going to grow with his rock gone.

I feel like Yoko stopping Rossiu from talking to Simon was right, simply because he was actively confronting/expressing his feelings and frustrations. You got to reflect on things sometimes.

I always liked the use of color in this episode. Beyond how the characters are drawn, but in how they are lit. Everything is washed out, grays, dark colors, etc. Until Nia appears and color starts returning.

The moment I recognized Nia was voiced by Bridget Hoffman and The Spiral King was voiced by Jamieson Price, you pair them with Yuri Lowenthal as Simon and Johnny Yong Bosch as Rossiu, among others, and all I could hear was the cast from my favorite trilogy of games, .hack/GU.

Fun little thing about this show is that they always find a way to get a character to say "Who the hell do you think I am?" Here is no different but because Nia's manner speech is proper she phrases it as, "Are you not aware of who I am?" Love this series to death hope you enjoy as well

something I find real special about the loss of kamina, is that simon in a way IS responsible for his death, it makes everyones feelings over it feel earned and legitimate, instead of forced drama, and makes simons healing all the more impactful
