I guess I don't need sleep

Jose

I just finished episode 5 Alicia you can’t do this to me I work in the morning 😭

Alex_Blackwood628

See regarding children trying food. You see I was a very stubborn child. So when my mom would try the exact same thing you suggested like "try a little bit and then I'll make you whatever." My ass would just not eat that night to prove a point and my mom who obviously didn't want me to starve, would end up making it.

FromZero2Shiro

I don't need sleep.... I NEED ANSWERS

The Reaper

My parents convinced me to try new food by offering me money lol

Grandmasta

my six MONTH old has had more variety of foods than this sixTEEN year old.

Oh, that's so cool! I'm originally from Buffalo, NY, and the theater scene is pretty great! I'm so happy for Shayna! Also, thanks for the extra company while sippin' some green tea with honey and scribblin' in some sudoku. 💖🤭

Grandmasta

you were already too old at that point, gotta start in infancy.

Darc Hart94

I can think of maybe 2 teenager food judges that I actually enjoyed. But this one was alright despite her mother shoving herself in.

Darc Hart94

Thanks for letting me know about more women mind games Alicia. Now I know how to avoid unnecessary desserts at restaurants

nubite

It's at that point that I look my kid in the eyes and tell them I guess you're not eating.

Darc Hart94

Alicia. Every time you say "normally they do flash backs" they don't. Girl you're going crazy sometimes

Frog

When she gets to season 5 she’s gonna “love” Lacy lmao

Azaxul

I did this once, my dad just said you're not eating then and ate in front of me.

I got that AuDHD brain + heightened senses. I get easily overwhelmed by a lot, especially if it's out of balance. taste and texture were really big, but i never had the words to explain the sensation until recently. Sensory Integration Disorder. I was a picky eater in general because i was sensitive, that was normal "I don't like it" mixed with a little sensory overload, but there was a small range of things that i couldn't even force myself to swallow because the texture was wrong. the experience can be best describes as my whole body reacting as if i just ate poison and is trying to save itself by rejecting it. it was legitimately traumatizing on its own, but to be punished, yelled at, being abandoned at a restaurant in a foreign country(yes, really), or otherwise negatively reinforced for it made it much worse. (my mom did her best, but is still human. and her mom is english so flavour was already at a disadvantage) So i had safe foods i would stick to more often. but the ADHD had other plans because it demands novelty. can't just have the same things day in and day out. thankfully, my extended family was big into food and got me baking from younger than i can remember, and eventually i took over cooking a lot for my own sake. I was able to try more things on my terms, but not until my teens. and now food is one of my greatest artistic loves. especially to share with my family to show them i love them, and the results of their support and encouragement. (also i'm one of the more skilled people i know in terms of theory, but i couldn't hack it on the line. too much stress, too much sensory overload. that's a different beast) TL;DR: Trying new foods should be a positive experience, not a threat or forced with an ultimatum. "Nope" needs to be a valid option. some brains, like mine, have different tiers of food sensitivity. some things can be forced, even if disliked. sometimes the senses are just being overwhelmed, even if it's good, it's just a lot. sometimes it's neurological short circuit that causes actual suffering (yes it sounds ridiculous, but that's why it's part of a disability). kids might not have the words for those kinda things, and may use one to avoid the other, so try to suss out the most likely situation. Chances are, if they wont do it, no matter how much you bribe them with dessert, it's the latter.

Fenronin (Dorian Dubourg)

I don't think you realize how many people don't eat seafood. Shrimps and lobsters are basically like insects which is even another factor outside of the the taste of the sea

Ponyman1997

I'm happy to see the twitch chat again

KyleTheCinephile98

I couldn't even swallow food as a kid. Grandparents had to actually hire a doctor to come by the house to teach me how to do that. Jokes on them, now I NEVER stop eating. HA! Take That, Grandma!

KyleTheCinephile98

"She doesn't like shrimp" [Realises they used shrimp in most of the dishes] 😨

Ambridge

I will forever not understand the point of sweet 16s. I just dont get it...I get its "of your 16 now you can have a job and you drive a car!" like the average 16 year old is not having a car, teenagers actually work before 16 like in my age back in the day when i was like 11, doing paper routes with my friend, shoveling driveways...

Hunhowl

Alicia: Paaacheeesss, they don't listen to you.... In my head: Caaaaaarl, that kills people.

Hellguin

When my dad was alive, he was ~360 lbs (163 kg) and spend the last 30 years of his life as a home furniture mover, He was THE fastest guy in the Warehouse or on the job, and the strongest. Used to watch him throw fridges, and FULL 3-drawer filing cabinets on his back and hike it up 4 flights of stairs without setting it down, it was wild. Overweight =/= slow and lethargic. I do wish he was still around though.

Flip SkeeMalker

Yeah this episode went pretty long, but I really appreciate it. You gave me enough time to cut and prep my veggies and then finish my beans and rice. Order up, extra heaping of YAPPIN

Jamie McMahon

25:10 I GOT SO HIGH THAT I GENUINELY FORGOT PATCHES WASNT A GROWN MAN'S REAL NAME 😭😭 When I heard them say "Matty" as a name it took me an entire 45 seconds to realize they were talking about Sad Dog Patches

Silver344

I dont get why the guys didn't even try to decide. They just picked a pizza without trying the others like?

Silver344

And i cant believe patches served raw chicken to a CHILD

Silver344

1:07:40 oh patches.....

Trevor Appel

18:05 And because all the original dishes he makes are nasty food combinations that make no sense whatsoever.

Hellguin

"I dont know how Ben is married." Probably love bombed and manipulated until the marriage was signed then became himself....

Jayden

Your knowledge between cooking and video production makes these reactions slap SO much harder.

As someone who was never a picky eater and grew up eating and trying a lot of foods I find later on in life I know what I like and if I am not willing to try something that is my own right. Like some people love seafood but for me it’s hit or miss, I used to eat shrimp all the time when I was younger but I actually developed a mild allergy to it in my teens and since then have avoided it cause while it won’t kill me it does make me ill. Other foods like Okra I have texture issues with, honestly I feel like people are valid for excluding things from their pallet. Should they at least try it? I mean yeah but to say someone doesn’t have a good pallet cause they don’t like Shrimp or pomegranate seeds is a bit excessive. Also just to give an opposite example I used to be super against the sting eggs as a kid cause one time I had some really rubbery, just awful scrambled eggs, but after taking Culinary classes in high school I learned just about every way to cook an egg. I feel like pallets shift over time. Also side note I can’t remember the name of the channel on YouTube but Alicia should react to British people trying American Foods.

mitchhamilton64

i love how they tried to paint the "pink spiders" as melissa's favorite band but her reaction was basically "oh... this is pretty cool!"

ElementalTem

I think the decoration fiasco is on Gordon and the producers. They had to have discussed this beforehand and the decor should have been discussed there. What's this planning everything 5 hours before the party?

Sgtanders

Oh for sure, nothing is wrong with having foods you don't like. It can easily just be a taste or texture thing, and nothing is at all wrong with that. Like, I have a texture thing as well with mushrooms, and still do, however, I don't mind throwing it in a food processor and using it in stews etc., then you still get the taste, but not the texture.

TSP247

I keep thinking of that cat from the puss in boots movie the covers his mouth saying "Oooooh". I just did a check up on guy fieri because I have not seen him in media since 2014 but apparently when covid happened he started caring about is actual self health and started losing weight and currently for a man of the age of 58 he has built out some well toned muscles. so I don't think its right to refer to him as the rotund man anymore.
