The Season 3 Iroh episode probably really broke Alicia when she saw it. T_T

i love how the diferences between bending styles are so clearly visible in this show. earth is steady and stable, all moves begin with a firm stance and a movement that expresses strength, air meanwhile is floaty and elusive, moves include a lot of jumping around , bending around things. Airbenders dont use stability they flow around stuff. you can see how toph usually shields herself with earth while aang shifts around blows like smoke. The same difference can be seen with water and fire. water moves flow from one move to the other, from offense to defence in one motion. Meanwhile fire is strictly contained within its moves, not allowed to spread freely like it might get out of controll at any moment

I agree watching Avatar is like coming home

With how empathetic, protective and compassionate you are, I’m certain that someday you WILL BE a WONDERFUL mother. I’m sure your child will be loved dearly.

I like how Legend of Korra tackles the difficulty bending situation like this episode did. It's less about how Aang is an air bender so he'd struggle to learn his natural opposite, being earth. Instead, more so the teachings of earth bending just don't mesh well with his personality. Korra struggled with air bending because she was too hot-headed, stubborn, and not spiritual at all , while Aang struggled with earth bending because he's so used to pacifism and running away from his problems, not really facing them head on at all unless forced too. Korra probably would have struggled with fire bending if she was raised as a regular water bender until she became 16, which you know- was the norm for the past millennia before Aang- but she was told of her role as the Avatar even earlier than Aang was.

Just 10 more episodes till she hits my favorite ep of this season!! Such hype!!!

Fun Fact! The bending styles are all loosely based on real Chinese martial arts, so you picking up on the differences is cool. Waterbending was based onTai Chi, Firebending Shaolin Kung Fu, Earthbending Hun Gar, and Airbending Baguazhang

I messaged you about it before on YouTube, so I dunno if no one has told you yet, but you’re right about how the motion is presented in this show. Each of the 4 element is directly referencing a different real-world martial art for its animation. As you already guess, Water Bending is based on Tai-Chi Fire Bending is based on Northern Shaolin Air bending is based on Baguazhang and Earthbending is based on Hung Gar. You should totally check out some of the commentaries and Nickelodeon BTS videos on youtube to see their reference people in action. ATLA might be the only cartoon I can think of that had a stunt crew.

Don't worry I want sure the series won't get more emotional from this point. 🤥

Iroh's son, Lu Ten, was fighting in the war. He died during the siege of Ba Sing Se, which Iroh commanded.

That ending always gets me. The Four Elemental Bending Styles are based on real life Kung Fu: - Waterbending is based on Yang Family Tai Chi which is characterised by the flowing movements. When you think typically Tai Chi stuff it's likely Yang Style derived. It's an internal style of martial arts. - Airbending is based on Baguazhang which is characterised by circular movements and odd twisting movements which they've turned into the evasion element of the bending style in the show. It's an internal style of martial arts. - Earthbending is based on Southern Kung Fu, specifically Hung Gar which uses a lot of the low horse stance and is a completely external style. Toph due to her unique circumstances has her own style based on Chow Gar Southern Praying Mantis which uses a lot of sticky hands - meaning 'feeling' your opponents movements. Southern Styles are typically quite low stances and use mostly punches, throws and low kicks. It should be mentioned though they throw in an array of stuff from other Southern Fist styles for Earthbending and Wing Chung is used with Toph sometimes. - Firebending is based on the widest array of martial arts styles. Mostly Northern Kung Fu such as Northern Shaloin. This has a lot more upright and acrobatic-esque moves with jump kicks and such. Very high energy. They also use Southern Dragon Claw for the close-range fighting. Then they also add Xing Yi Quan which has very linear movements. Interestingly this means that even common Firebending is based on both External and Internal styles. A bit rambly but it means the styles match up with the philosophy: - Waterbending is graceful and turns the enemies attacks on themselves. - Airbending is defensive and redirects enemies attacks. - Earthbending is solid and meets attacks head on - Firebending is high energy and aggressive. Kinda fun anecdote story but when I was young I did 3 of these styles at one school (Yang Tai Chi, Hebei Xingyi and Magui Bagua). Around the time the 2nd season of Avatar came out we had a sudden influx of students. Which is actually how I found out about the show :D

Zukos voice actor went so hard at the end, what a fantastic VA. Take the breaks when you can get them, you'll certainly need one for the finale ;)

Maia Brodsky

Idk who told you Zuko can only cry out of one eye. He can definitely cry out of both eyes.

BamBam

thanks for the video, cant wait for the openings reactions ^^ but remember to not try to do too much at the same time, just a friendly reminder to take your time and recover health and reload your HP <3

Nakama Forever

Such an amazing episode. That ending got me bad 😢

cscotch

Dante Basco is such a phenomenal VA and he's a huge part of why Zuko became such a beloved character. The writing is excellent, of course, but the vocal performance truly elevates his character so much.
