This series is so goofy and wild. I'm having a lot of fun with it so far :D

(Luck) And (Pluck) refers to the difference between the people who effortlessly obtain what they want through good fortune or illegitimate means (Luck) and the people who have to make their way in life through hard efforts (Pluck) [answer via JoJo's wiki]

This is painfully behind but I wanna talk about it anyway, so why not Pluck and Luck are tropes from Victorian literature that Araki was kind of inspired by for Part 1, when he was still figuring out what the manga was gonna be about. Traditionally, you'd see two types of characters, the 'lucky' ones who got what they have by chance or inheritance, and the 'plucky' ones who earned what they had through skill and effort. The entirety of Part 1 is kind of playing with that idea, because traditionally, Jonathan would be the 'lucky' one born to a rich family but having no real skills, while Dio would be the 'plucky' one who started from nothing but worked his way to the top. But, Araki turns that on its head, because Jonathan winds up being the one who works hard and develops real strength and skills, while Dio winds up where he is because he's lucky enough to get adopted by a rich family, and to have access to a magical mask that makes him a super-powered vampire.

I had to look it up after first watch, but pluck is courage. I can see the confusion since no one uses that meaning lol

Think last time i heared pluck was in maybe 90s and old time movies. But like like others say, its courage PS ANT nice knowing you! Think almost all names here are references. Prolly Bob will let you know XD

Lazy Swordsman

Pluck just means to have spirit or courage. It's an old ass term (going back centuries really) and while you'd still see it occasionally in novels or old movies it's not exactly commonly used day to day. Loving these reactions btw :) Can't wait for Part 2 which is probably my favourite series and Joestar.

RIP Bruford. Btw, Bruford is voiced by Kenjirou Tsuda who si famous for voicing Seto Kaiba in Yu-gi-oh and also voices Hannes in Attack on Titan! Pluck is courage basically, fortitude, boldness, heart. It possibly comes from another use of the word pluck which is the heart, liver and trachea of an animal. Good job identifying today's music reference, the ancient Tibetan monk Tom Petty! Boy, you ain't ready for the next refence, tho! Oh man, this is one of my favourite cliff hangers in the show, psyched for next episode!

Reiko Lupus

I wonder who'll be the new best friend for the next episode! XD

Once you realize that JoJo's runs on Telenovela rules, it all makes sense.

LampyLust

I'm living for these reactions! You and Ant are hilarious, I can't wait for the next and my most favorite part featuring (imo) the Bugs Bunny of Anime

Luck is something that passively happens to you but pluck is an action. Jojo became the person he is not through luck but from hard work and grit.

Verdigree

Like describing someone as plucky, courageous

Nakama Forever

Who needs luck when you got pluck 😄

Isaac Steinway

Pluck means Overwhelming Determination and Courage.
