If you watched on Crunchyroll, they must have changed the translation, because where your video has the Future Devil say "Your death in the future will fucking rule" now it says "Your death in the future will be the fucking worst" which is similar but different for some reason

33:39 "They got Uzis". Literally no Uzis present. They're holding AK-47s and pistols.

Makima really loves to smirk doesn’t she. It’s so hard to tell what her endgame might be. What she says to Kishibe makes sense, but he and the viewers know it’s bullshit (somehow) and all she does in response to being called out is smile. Nothing fazes her at all. She straight up walked into a yakuza den alone, and had the confidence to show them a bunch of their loved ones eyes as a means to threaten them. It’s the soft-spoken and casual way she carries herself that sets her apart from most “dommy mommy” characters out there, and makes her feel genuinely off-putting.

Eye for detail on Makima’s theme Is key to understand her power, Future eps looking amazing the more reveals we get. Can’t wait to see more reactions to this amazing series from you Alicia

A slight difference in the sub translation and manga. The sub for some reason has the Future Devil say "Your death will fucking rule" to Aki. In the manga, the Future Devil says "You will die in the worst possible way." I'm unsure as to why they changed it so much, as the tone between the two lines I feel is very different. I do like the tone, but I feel the original line is much more devil-like.

Maia Brodsky

You misread the subtitle. Kishibe said he IS getting attached to Denji and Power.

Zandorum

You talking about sweating and getting light headed made me want to hug you. Stay strong Queen.

Kat

Kurose dirty for that, we know Aki's got the 11 herbs and spices, he's gotta cook for his kids Denji and Power

LampyLust

Denji said I can kill devils better and I'm getting my ticket to pooshy, kishibe thought "huh 2 of my favorite things"

sexy hunk

The concept of knowing your death actually gets explored in jojo's.

Loken

Cliffhanger devil is the worst.

Speaking of the "If you know, you know" hidden details — Go rewatch the ending to Episode 8. MAPPA has it uploaded on their channel, and 35 seconds in there's a little bit of something you'll find familiar now thanks to the end of this episode. A couple things to mention this one, and a tiny little tl;dr for ya. Hope ya gets some good rest, and things this week go smoothly, so that you'll have all the energy for the finale! Translation oddity: What the Future Devil says to Aki which is, 「なぜならオマエは未来で最悪な死に方をする!」which translated directly is, "BECAUSE IN THE FUTURE, YOUR DEATH IS GOING TO HAPPEN IN THE WORST POSSIBLE WAY!" The English subtitle translation using, "Because your death in the future will /fucking/ rule!" stands out as PARTICULARLY ODD. Given that the Future Devil is constantly shouting,「未来最高!」"The future rules!" I think that it's possible that the word for "rules"「最高」(さいこう) "saikou" got misheard, when he says「最悪」(さいあく) "saiaku" which means "the worst" and thus, we got a radically different translation. It's worth noting that non-English language subtitles have a more directly translation of that that matches the literal one I gave, so it's likely just a minor slip up. I'll be very curious to see what the dub ends up doing with that line when it comes out in a couple weeks, and if there's a correction to it or if they stick with that. It under-emphasizes how much directly implied dread & horror on a PERSONAL level is attached to what's being implied about Aki's ultimate fate. Even without Aki interrupting the Future Devil's explicit detailing of how that's going to occur. (It also makes the particular cut-off of this episode feel a lot more unsettling, given that Aki is fighting the Ghost Devil who was involved in his former partner's death and we only see the Future Devil in his eye just before that). That being said, the Future Devil is genuinely SO STOKED to see Aki's death that he still made the contract with him JUST to live in his right eye, solely so that he gets to witness that event happening first hand. Conversation layering: When Makima says, "When you talk about 'necessary evil' you're using it to justify the evil acts you commit. Society doesn't need your excuses. It's not a true 'necessary evil' unless the nation itself is holding the leash and maintaining control." combined with the previous episode, they stated that no one is allowed to know about which contracts Makima has …because she reports directly to the Japanese Cabinet Secretary. The way Kishibe says that she gets a pass so long as she's on the side of Mankind the same way he asks Power & Denji what side they're on is the most adversarial we've seen anyone be towards her openly, while also respecting her position of operational authority. Their whole conversation about why she she anticipated the attack on their unit and didn't prevent it from happening, means that she allowed everyone to die. Especially since she's apparently lying about her reasons for doing so, that makes her actions ones that would usually just be considered evil. However, this adds in a layer of context that paints her role as something closer to being like an operative in a National Intelligence Service like the FBI/CIA, where she has privileged information and is allowed to use it in ways that are often disagreeable so long as it ensures national safety. Especially the way that she refused to answer the person who quit, because after leaving he only had civilian information privileges really reinforces that type of role and why she would hate to have to go to meetings with those types in Kyoto. What's most interesting is that while she's lying in her openly stated reason, it's not clear WHAT PART is a lie. If she's on a side other than for humanity, if she's got a personal agenda, if what she's doing now is still a part of a different bigger picture that she's evading talking about, ANY of that could be the case and it makes it unsettling to know that everyone is just in a hierarchal position where they HAVE to trust her. Even while she has operational authority over characters like Aki, she has circumstantial control over Denji & Power, because they get put down as Devils if they ever try to leave. The trust they have isn't a choice, which is what makes Denji's lasting crush on Makima such an interesting disruption of that dynamic.

As a manga reader, Alicia wondering what devil is makima gotta be the most entertaining thing ever

Joey Cat

Great upload as always! Need to know how you learned how to roast people so well, on the fly as well hahaha

Evan

I agree chainsaw man has one of the best openings but Evangelion will always take the cake for me

Ivan

there is slight error Alicia almost picked up when watching opening with himeno leaning to her right shoulder looking up. People that don't have right eye never lean to look back over right shoulder (they wouldn't see anything) So they always turn to their functioning eye side.

Joey Cat

I swear Alicia you simp harder for characters every time you upload, first Kars now this XD

Wil4

Alicia, just so you know, The Angel Devil is male

Kevin Søndergaard

Amazing reaction as usual! Really loving your attention to detail with some of the "shots" they made in the anime, most of them I am geeking out/appreciating myself! And that has been true for all that I have watched you react to so far.

pinchechino

Angel is best boy and Beam is best friend

shakir0247

Did you catch the "cinematic reference" with Makima on the cauch (at 18:25) :P

Aspy130

Btw just to clear one thing up, at the table with maki he says “now I’m even getting attached to them” unfortunately you read the “now” as not Lmao

Zane

I’m gonna be so sad we only get one more episode of csm but I can’t wait for the finale! Your reactions have made this a very memorable experience, and this has become an anime I will always cherish. Thank you Alicia!

Makima is such a bad ass up to no good dommy mommy and I am here for it, she knows we all know she is up to no good, and she loves it. Power tho.. she's my girl, I want to see our goblin blood fiend go to town with those honed mental skills. Also, I love the vibe of the Future Devil. And Angel is awesome, Spider creeped me the fuck out, and now I understand why Violence is who they are in the opening.

megaorange

I just realized while you were talking about the elevator shot that he is on the fourth floor. IIRC 4 is considered unlucky and associated with death.

GormleyPeach

The translation of future devil was the only bad thing with the episode.they made it sound fun when really he says "in the future you're going to die in the worst way possible" very different in tone. Apparently of languages got it and it was only most just crunchy English sub lol

Charlie baker

I'm dead " he was shaking ass in the intro, RGB style with gamer lights"
