Nolan didn't want his son to gain powers because he could simply wait until all the people he cared about died. But since Mark has powers, he's forced to reconcile his two lives. when Nolan is talking to Mark, he's not just trying to convince Mark, but convince *himself* that what he's doing is the right thing. And in the end, Nolan can't convince Mark OR himself, and to figure things out he needed to flee.

Something horrifying that comes to light in the first season finale is exactly in line with your observations about Nolan not really being excited about Mark getting powers, except it's even deeper than Nolan not wanting Mark to join him - if Mark never got powers, it's entirely possible that Nolan would have simply waited until him and Debbie died of old age to initiate the takeover. What would it have mattered to him if it took him 70+ years to do his job? His lifespan is in the thousands. So when Mark got his powers, suddenly the timetable moved up, because now there was no waiting until Mark died to do his job, and once Mark grew up, if he wasn't firmly on the Viltrumite side, then technically Nolan would have failed his job miserably, strengthening Earth instead of weakening it.

I just realized that the reason Nolan waited until Mark had his powers to begin his conquest, was because he didn't want to have just conquer Mark like he was just another human. So he waited until he got them so they could do it together.

You pretty-much called it in the first episode. Hyper-Advanced civilizations that are Actually benevolent all have some sort of 'Prime Directive' and don't go mucking-about uplifting less-advanced cultures willy-nilly.

Ok so since your caught up, let me put this in perspective, season 1 of Invincible covers the first 12-13 issues of the comics roughly......out of 144 issues. So we're only a 12th of the way through this thing, and things get even more bonkers!

Thank you for this series! It's been a blast to rewatch this show with you! This last episode is super crazy but I think I love it. Apparently the show has been renewed for two more seasons and that's been known since April 2021 but there's no word of a launch date yet. I hope to watch it with you when it comes out!

The next season is coming next year, can't wait. So many people have mistaken this show for a "deconstruction of superheroes type" like The Boys or Watchmen but they couldn't be more wrong. It's like they see superheroes and violence and then immediately equate it to deconstruction. Sure, it parodies superhero comic tropes and pokes fun of it but what it doesn't do is treat its story overly edgy and serious. It is not a what if superheroes were real because the nature of the show and novel is silly, like a comic book. Invincible is a celebration, a reconstruction of the oversaturated and convoluted market of superhero comic books. If you pick up comics from the 60, 70s, you'll find that it's actually quite similar to Invincible except that it's outdated and has significantly less gore. That is what makes Invincible different from the edgy graphic novels.

It breaks my heart to hear about how painful your fight with cancer is for you and your family. But the pain they're feeling is a testament to how much they love you and are worried for you. I may have only started following you for a few weeks, and what I know about you is filtered from a screen and thousand kilometers of separation, but what I know about you is you're a warm-hearted, dedicated, funny, wonderful person. And I can understand why it's hard for them and why they cry when they're alone. Because they want to be strong for you, but this whole situation can't help but hurt them. I don't feel appropriate to give advice on what to do. I do think they'd want you to focus on your own well being over theirs. You making a full recovery will end the pain you're all going through and so you should concentrate on your own well-being until you're better. Just know we're rooting for you as surely as your parents are. And for what it's worth, I'm glad to have your great content and the great person that comes with it :)

If you want to know why Amber and Mark suddenly getting back together feels so weird, it's because like I mentioned in my post on the previous episode, Amber and Mark never broke up in the comics after the cyborg incident. So, wanting to stick to the comic canon as closely as possible, they had to have Amber get back together with Mark so that they could continue the story as it was in the comic without having to do a bunch of rewriting.
