This isn't a spoiler, just helping to explain things already stated. I noticed you've had some problem understanding Philosopher's stones and Homunculi, specifically in regards to how the people from Xing sense them. They can sense life forces of living things, and philosopher's stones are essentially alchemically created batteries where the energy is souls (Life energy) so they sense a giant clump of mushed up souls together when they are near a philosopher's stone, hence why they're always so creeped out by them. They're basically sensing the energy version of how Envy looks, a giant mutated amalgamation of former people. At least that's as far as I understand it.

I've gotta say the original japanese VA had about 1000 times the emotion in that final line on this episode I feel like everyone else did an awesome job on the delivery of the lines on the dub but the elric brothers were left lacking the emotion you get from the sub version
