This is like, one of the best recap episodes I've seen, for sure!

TheTrashBandit

Been loving the binge! Be on a close lookout for post credit scenes from episode 28 onwards

Kaz

Sad you skip the new opening, but sadder that openings can't fucking stop spoiling their own shows.

michael morris

Father is a individual, daddy is the position XD

Chamoun101

I think with Hohenheim and Father we have som kind of a Fight Club situation. Idk if I'm right maby am wrong, but you know the first rule about Fight Club. "You do not talk about Fight Club!"

Darkendreign

FMAB is such a good show. Looking forward to the next batch

Beelz

The reason why the put the stuff they put in the opening is because without the context most of it makes little to no sense. Watching Ed being dragged by the truth in the way they did is just the premise of the show, whatching Ling fight Bradley in the opening might be a spoiler? That said the first opening has fake fights (and this one does too) so both that and having Ed and Scar clashing means nothing without context as these are just characters that are on opposing teams imo. It's not like that one One Piece spoiler that just shows you Robin hanging out with the crew before she becomes good

Sorel2020

Damn the fact that his name is literally King Bradley is hilarious

snowman

I highly disagree with skipping the opening! It's the benefit of hindsight that you know the spoilers. I'd say it's more to build anticipation for what's coming next, and all of the openings are bangers in themselves.

BakaSama

I’m loving these reactions because a) it lets me see if someone else made the same conclusions I did about things and b) it lets me re-experience this awesome series that I haven’t watched it in years. As someone whose watched it before though, some of your theorycrafting drives me nuts. Not because they’re bad, but because of how close you get. I don’t want to spoil anything though, so I just have to wait impatiently for you to reach the reveals.

Steven Bermudez

No need to apologize for pausing and going on tangents, that’s what we’re here for. And for the YouTube plebes, well… they can always just skip ahead if they don’t want to hear your commentary, right?

Ace's Faves

I think Bradley's eye is forgivable. We found out about that in the greed arc and that was when the 1st OP was still up.

dhjebshnd ahjdjuzjs

The thing about the openings giving things away is that they do but they don't. They're very deceiving. The scene with Ed reaching out as he's being dragged through the gate in the opening looks more like he's reaching out trying to grab his own right hand away from Truth like Al did when he went through the gate. Still, yeah, I understand wanting to skip the openings, specially with how good an eye you have for the tiniest of details. Definitely skip the 3rd opening until it changes. 3rd opening ABSOLUTELY gives away a lot of things if you pay attention, including a spoiler for the very next episode. There are characters in it you haven't even met at this point.

m00se666

I don’t have any issue with skipping the openings, at least initially, but I really, REALLY hope you check them out maybe a little further down the line. This opening specifically is one of the best in the series, imo, and they’re really worth the watch. But again, I get it. No worries.

Cameron Sunken

Op 3 is definitely a safe OP to watch, there’s not really any spoilers. It’ll show you characters you haven’t met yet, but nothing plot related. Plus the song is a banger!

Shank Mugen

Hope you will watch all the OP and ED after the arc/cour ends

xsithspawnx

Eh, I never really had a problem with feeling spoiled by the openings or endings in this series or most other anime, but I'm pretty good at just turning my brain off and enjoying things when I want to. I just enjoy all the pretty action going on and love the music too much to skip them. I know not everyone is wired that way though.

MoD+

Yeah, the OP have Scenes was coming up next. But i favour a lot of scenes that are created just for that. Like the fights. Rewatch OP afterwards is ok, when you want no spoilies :) And Rewatch of all OPs end EDs at the end. Thats always a nice closure to a series :)

MoD+

In my Secound rewatch I just realise that Pinako is the granny in this flashback :) So maybe 60 years back or someting like that :D

MoD+

I love this stilee of recap Episode. There are so many thats just replayed scenes and voiceover. He it have more into it. But yeah all in all a recap Episode

Rat#394

New ending has no spoilers, just our best girl. :)

KingofKings42

I can't wait to see the reaction to Hoenheim's backstory.

Tico Machi

I'm glad you said that you don't pay much attention to the comments during these episodes (even if they are only emotes), because EVERY time you guessed something that wasn't 100% correct, dbzfangirl318 would just spam bonk emotes.

Princess Paladin

You already watched that opening. And didn't notice anything. That's why they put it in the opening.

Quinton Macejkovic

Man. I laughed out loud with that "alcoholism" joke at the end 😂 accidentally woke my dog up and everything lmao

Lazy Swordsman

The openings are only really spoilers in retrospect once you've seen the scene. I'm could have swore you watched this OP or one very similar to it already. Regardless loving this reaction series. Definitely the best one you're doing at the moment :)

Lazy Swordsman

Honestly my favourite recap of any anime series I've ever watched. I rewatch it every time. Seeing kid Trisha, young adult Trisha and then mother Trisha was a little sweet to.

Addeand

it's worth keeping in mind that the studio expects that each watcher has either seen the first anime or read the manga, as they both came out years beforehand.

Keinstein588

My thoughts through this episode: "Hohenheim is having a hoe-in'-time!"

Speci

The OP isn't a spoiler. Tiny clips mean nothing without context. Looking at an OP animation with the knowledge of having already seen what happens doesn't count. The only people that understood the entirety of every opening were people that read the manga first.

Harper

that "Alphonse, no..." always hits me so hard, how the no trails off into nothingness, just unbearable silence.

stardmg

Hohenheim over there sitting on the log like "they don't know that I'm him"

stardmg

The reason why openings always spoil so much is because at the end of the day, the anime is just there to sell the manga (and the magazine that publishes it) so they operate under an assumption that the viewer has already read the manga. Plus the anime OP has become sort of an art in of itself, like a super high budget animated music video.

Jeff

Love the fact that a recap episode spurred so much theorizing. Can't wait to see it play out.

KaijinGarou

"The bodies are piling up all over". You're one to talk, Hughes 😥

Aziouss

So all i need to stave away existential dread is so much alcohol to get blackout drunk and have a trippy dream! Noted!

Asher

When it comes to the opening it’s not a spoiler if you don’t know it a spoiler

mykanike

I feel like it’s only a spoiler with hindsight

Marith Lizard

It never occurred to me until this moment that if they all have power names, Gluttony is designated as the Ultimate Tongue.

UltimateFusion96

The openings are like that because they are under the assumption that the watcher has either seen the 2003 FMA or read the manga leaning more towards the latter since the 2003 version just stop following the manga and did its own thing.

UltimateFusion96

Plus an opening isn’t a spoiler if you don’t know what is going on without no context behind it.

Steven Bermudez

Speak for yourself, bro. Some of us like watching people work through the plot in their heads as they experience the series. Watch the series by yourself on Crunchyroll if her pausing for discussion bothers you much.

Karatsuki

While openings with no spoilers are pretty cool Pretty much EVERY japanese mainstream show puts spoilers into openenings as they are supposed to enhance the manga coverage NOT replace it so about 90% of people who watch these already know exactly what is gonna happen.

evoL

You think last opening is bad, the one before that had spoilers from after the arc. Or at least the end of this arc.

Shadow Incarnate

at the end, "thanks for all the help" *alcoholism* X'D I'm pretty sure he was talking to Pinako...

NekoTrapKyun

ok, I usually don't comment but i gotta say, you literally forgot when this opening started showing up, and sure some very minor things could be gathered but without the overarching context you would have not gotten any of i promise you, its much less blatant and the scenes that are shown aren't from the same angle or even the actual scenes from the show, al's hand reaching for ed could easily be mistaken for symbolism its really not a spoiler in the context of the episodes this opening was on for, so calm down they aren't stupid for putting that in there, the fight with ling wasn't actually the actual fight with ling, you already knew bradley was an enemy at that point so it wasn't all that much, don't get me wrong i don't judge you for skipping the opening until you get past the part it would be for, i have also seen plenty of mega spoilery openings, but i feel like the fmab ops are quite well put together to avoid spoilers I will add that there is a reason i am saying this and its because i never skipped any openins, for better or for worse i let them play unless they were bad, so i am going to say after rewatching the entire series that even now im noticing new parts of the openings i didn't when watching for the first time, and even then i noticed that none of these scenes are plucked straight from the anime, they are relevant but they are chosen very carefully, maybe they can give you a minor hint if you expect scenes from the anime, but even then with that and theory crafting and actually even watching the first fma (not brotherhood) i would not have ever guessed or spoiled myself the story sorry for the rant, don't hate on me for my opinion, again as i said at the end of the first paragraph, i understand why you would skip the openings, no judgement there, but the creators i think are very clever with how the made these ops and i really like them

Fei Ashtear

I think in Japan they consume anime completely differently then we do in the west. They read the magazine first, then read the manga, then watch the anime. With fmab, they also watched the entire og anime. They don't worry about spoilers in the opening because this is at least the 3rd time you're seeing the story. After watching the anime, you're supposed to buy the games too. And buy the anime on Blu-ray special edition box sets.
