True Stories: The ‘Real’ Mia Preston (Part 2)
Let’s pick up where we left off. It’s the end of the summer, Mia’s going into her senior year, I’m going into my Junior year. It’s about two weeks before the start of the semester, preseason for athletes, summer training for various students employed by the College. I’m on campus, just walking somewhere (to the campus cafeteria I think for breakfast), and to my surprise Mia calls my name. I turn to greet her and notice a few things.
First, she’s much tanner than I’ve ever seen her, complements of ‘boozing on a beach’ all summer.
Second, she’s put on more weight over the summer, probably another 15-20 pounds. For those of you keeping track, that’s probably around 50 pounds heavier than when she was a flawless Sophomore. She’s 5’6 very curvy, pear-shaped, with a pudgy pot-belly, thick thighs, big butt, and soft hips. She probably weighs somewhere between 165lbs and 175lbs. Because she puts on weight around her middle and lower body her face and arms don’t appear to have accumulated that much extra poundage. Her arms were probably a tad bit softer than before and her jawline had certainly softened, but not to the point where she was sporting a double chin or chubby cheeks. To my eyes she was like a real-life fantasy come true. At that point in my romantic endeavors I’d never dated someone remotely pudgy, so seeing someone whom I liked, and I knew liked me, put on so much weight so quickly, it was really exciting.
After saying hello, she tells me to walk with her, as she heads toward the track. While we walk, she tells me about her indulgent summer, and how much she loved the food in Spain on her summer trip. She complains that she’s put on weight, and asks me if it’s noticeable that she’s ‘fat now’. She was wearing some grey sweatpants and a form-fitting white t-shirt. The clothes fit her, but they did hug her body in such a way that her beer belly was obvious as was her thicker lower body. I told her it wasn’t noticeable and doubted that she put on weight.
She then insisted that she did and that she is now serious about getting back in shape. She even had a ‘perfect’ plan.
Get this, the girl joined the XC team as a walk on, thinking playing a sport would motivate her to be active again and help her lose weight. She told me that she messaged the coach over the summer expressing her interest in joining the team and that he had asked her about her running times (y’know how fast she was, how in-shape she was, that sort of thing), and she gave this coach her running times from when she was in-shape in high school instead of whatever her current reduced abilities were. That was all it took for her to walk-on to this XC team.
She legit lied her way onto the XC team. Completely failed to mention to her coach that she was almost 50 pounds heavier than when she actually could run the times she claimed to be able to.
I was astonished. I don’t know how somebody does that and gets away with it.
She tells me she’s on her way to her first practice, and that she’s nervous. Her coach is having the girls run a three-mile time-trial (It might have actually been a 5k, but I don’t remember.). The point of this time trial was to organize the team into groups of similar abilities for training. Mia is nervous because she hasn’t gone for a single run ALL SUMMER and is fearful that she’ll get in trouble for embellishing her current physical fitness level. But she still though she’d be able to preform well enough not to get found out. I don’t know if she was just overconfident or delusional.
She then told me that if I wasn’t too busy, I should come and cheer for her at the track. I think she felt that if I was watching, she’d try harder. Either way, there was no way in hell that I was going to miss this, so I said that would be fine.
We walked to the track, chatting a bit more as we did. When we arrive, the place is getting pretty crowded. The men’s XC team and women’s XC teams are already there warming up and stretching. The football field has a ton of staff on it setting things up I guess for football practice. There are some football players around, but the whole team isn’t out there yet. I find a spot by the in-field fence to cheer, and Mia heads towards the girl’s team and puts her sports bag down. Not really knowing anyone on the team I guess, she kinda stays away from everybody else. Other girls are taking off there sweat jackets and long pants so Mia strips out of her sweats, revealing that she’s wearing a pair of skin-tight pink gym shorts.
It’s worth mentioning here that gym shorts and running shorts are not the same thing, the other girls on the team are wearing running shorts, so right off the bat, to my eyes, Mia looks unprepared for this just based on her clothing choice.
Then there was the difference in leg definition. Mia had shapely legs, but her overly full thighs didn’t have a hint of athletic definition on them, in fact, as she took off her shirt and dressed down to her sports bra like most of the other girls it became clear that no part of her body appeared to have any athletic definition. Most of the XC girls were rail thin, with flat stomachs and in some cases actual visible abs. Mia had a chunky lower belly role that pooched over the waistband of her gym shorts like a little muffin top, her beer belly was on full display. I honestly didn’t think Mia looked fat, but compared to the other XC girls she was clearly the fatty of the group, especially her butt, she had the fattest ass on the team by a country mile.
As I watched Mia do some 100 meter accelerations as a warm up, my eyes were glued to the way her beefed up body jiggled as she ran. Even though she was wearing a sports bra her boobs were bouncing, her belly was jiggling all around, her thighs looked to be rubbing against each other, and her butt swayed and jiggled with each and every stride she took. Her long hair had been thrown into a ponytail and every time she stopped I could see her whipping sweat off of her face.
As the team jogs some laps for a more serious warmup, Mia doesn’t join them, instead she goes back to her stuff, puts her t-shirt back on and starts stretching and sipping water. My guess is that she got self-conscious around the other thinner girls (and maybe she’d already gotten a bit too winded from her meager warmup).
A little while later, after all the warm-ups and stretching is done. The girls line up for their time-trial and it begins. Mia gets into the middle of the crowd and I can’t really see her during the first lap, she seems to do okay at holding her position. The second lap, the leaders start to break away from the crowd, making the middle part of the pack with Mia more visible. I can tell at this point that most girls are looking relaxed, but Mia isn’t. She looks to be breathing pretty heavy but is forcing herself to keep pushing forward. Around the back turn of the second lap, she sort of takes the lead of the middle of the pack group and a few girls tuck in behind her, probably using her to break the wind. As the end of the second lap approaches and the start of the third begins, most of the middle of the pack seem to realize Mia is slowing down her pace and pass her.
Mia struggle to keep up with the tail end of the pack for about a hundred meters, but eventually falls off and slows down even more. The rest of lap three, Mia is slowing down is gradually getting passed up by the rest of the team. By lap four, Mia is third to last, and the two girls in the back have almost caught up with her. At this point it is clear to me that they are running faster that Mia and will catch her soon. Once they catch her, Mia picks up her pace and stays with them. As the girls finish a mile, that’s where Mia’s race ends.
After crossing the line, the other girls keep running, but Mia limps off the track and collapses. Thinking something is wrong, I start to head over to her to see if she is okay, but I’m on the other end of the track and outside the fence. As I head over, her coach reaches her first. By the time I get there, the coach has called some trainers over and a golf cart. I ask if she’s okay, and she’s crying, out of breath, and saying that her ankle hurts. They lift Mia up and drive her toward the field house and I’m stuck grabbing her stuff.
A few minutes later, I see her in the training room with an ice-pack on her ankle pounding some Gatorade. She’s sweated through her white shirt and I can see her belly folding upon itself as she sits. Her shorts are also sweat stained. She thanks me for grabbing her things and says that she rolled her ankle, but the trainers say she shouldn’t be feeling much pain after icing it. I’m honestly not sure if Mia actually rolled her ankle or if she was just acting. She then blamed her embarrassing performance in the time-trial on being dehydrated, which I guess the coach bought because she wasn’t cut from the team right then and there.
The time trial was quite a spectacle to witness. It was like something I could have dreamed up as a WG workout-fail. Mia looked pretty chubby compared to the other girls, nothing like the athlete she used to be. I think in her head she did believe in herself, because she never actually rigorously exercised now that she was heavier. In retrospect, I really think she was lying about rolling her ankle and about being dehydrated to save her skin from being cut from the team.
A lot of good it did her.
From what I understand, she spent the next two weeks ‘cross-training’ aka stationary biking and elliptical, while the rest of the team would go running during preseason. Once the semester started, she got bored with XC and quit the team. I don’t think she lost an ounce of weight over those two weeks of preseason, and if anything she used her two weeks of regular exercise to justify going hard with drinking and eating during the semester.
As a byproduct of me showing up to that time trial, a bunch of girls on the XC team got the impression that I was Mia’s boyfriend. A fact I learned from Mia’s actual boyfriend when he confronted me about it a little while after the semester started.
As usual, hanging out with Mia brought me nothing but trouble, but I found her gain so attractive that at the time I didn’t really care. A similar pattern immerged as it had the year before, when Mia was drunk, she’d seek me out for attention and validation, when she was sober, she was more reserved about flirting with me. She and her boyfriend continued to have relationship problems, and their on-off relationship continued. Her boyfriend was increasingly threatened by my friendship with her, which increased a lot of the drama I had to deal with from my group of friends, and my team.
By this point in time, I held out hope that Mia would wise up and dump her boyfriend for good so she could be with me, but I also realized that she was pretty toxic and that I couldn’t put my dating life on hold for her. So, started seeing other people my junior year, which seemed to make Mia really jealous, so jealous that she’d actually try to sabotage my relationships with other women. I think next time, I’ll delve into a few of these stories, because as a senior, Mia’s gain didn’t stop. She was out of control with drinking and eating.
I hope you enjoyed this little true story, I’ll shift my attention now this month to finishing up some of my unfinished stories. (Fed Up, TFGT, 20,000 calorie challenge, etc).
(This 'true story' is about 2,000 words, making up for my lack of posts last week. This week I'll try and get a fresh 4,000 published)
