Welcome back to Season 2 of our 'Design Diary' series!

After a Summer of Stitching enforced hiatus in July, Kay is back to share more of her design stories. In today's episode she shares with you the tale behind the 'Waffle Socks'. From the prototypes, of which some might become future sock designs, to the in depth process Kay employed for the yarn selection, this is quite the story. The 'Waffle Socks' will be released at 5pm on the 1st September 2024.

Join Kay as she:

  • Introduces you to the ‘Waffle Socks’, part of this years 'Platinum Collection' https://bakerybears.com/platinum-collection/

  • Talks you through how the design for the ‘Waffle Socks’ was conceived

  • Discusses the yarn and talks about why she choose it

  • Talks through negative and positive ease

  • Discusses the design process and shows you some of the concept designs

  • Talks you through why she settled on the finished design

Love the socks! I will say that I got to see an exhibit of Monets once and I was struck by the way he had dappled lilac all over almost all the paintings. When you stepped back, it wasn’t noticeable, but up close, they were covered with lilac brushstrokes. :) Maybe they noticed that too! Perhaps if you looked for a really high resolution version of his lily pond paintings, you could get the detail to see it too?

I’ll definitely knit the waffle socks, lovely and cosy for autumn and winter. Thank you Kay for another great pattern.

My after dinner treat today was watching this wonderful design diary while casting on my waffle socks... The perfect end to my day! Thank you Kay! I love them already... :)
