It's finally finished!!! And close to 3 hours long... You're welcome....

Thanks so much for your patience and support during this difficult time (editing a 3 hour HTGAWM video.) I've put timestamps for content warnings in the YouTube video description if needed.

I wanted to upload this video directly to Patreon as well as with a YouTube link, but it was so long that Patreon truly could not/would not let me upload it all the way.

Also: I'm still working on the captions (I have to manually correct an auto-generated transcript since this is an unscripted video), so check back in a day or two for more accurate captions. I just wanted to post the vid asap since it's already gotten delayed from when I as hoping to have it done.

Let me know if you've watched the show, and if so, how far you got! If any of you have made it through the entire thing, I would really love to vent about season 6 with you!

YESS! could not have come at a better time as i started sewing a ridiculous pillowcase right when this dropped. still honestly caught in season two's convoluted web rn (esp since tubi recommended section distracted me with the reminder that they also have project runway on there) but since i watched when i was also in eighth grade so many of these plot points felt like buried in the back of my mind palace i think i remember liking laurel a lot when i first watched partially bc i just thought she was pretty but partially because i liked that they had a spanish-speaking character played by an actress who actually speaks spanish at a native level (which is such a low bar...) on rewatch i do think this still gives me residual tolerance for her actions like when she revealed she had the ring... gagged! ALSO! when i was doing rewatch it took me a second to place megan west as taylor kelly but when it clicked i was SO excited for that shoutout in the video. we love our recurring actors!

Amaya GM

also a little unrelated but curious on your odyssey takes! i always appreciate your perspective and personally was one of the only haters of it among my family and friends... would love to hear thoughts if you have any to share! i personally really loved the sets and practical effects but thought the dialogue, women characters, and especially how the themes were conveyed were very lacking. i would also consider myself a bit of a greek mythology fan (i am, after all, in the percy jackson generation) and was a little sad that nolan didn't include any of the more godly aspects of the story. and on a very petty note i thought charlize theron looked like she was doing a perfume commercial lol. but very curious on your takes!!

Jane Mulcahy

I'm afraid I liked it 😭 I really didn't go in with much as far as expectations (I like Nolan fine but I'm no huge fan) and it was kinda all I expected/wanted, which was a pretty well-made, straightforward Hollywood-type adaptation of The Odyssey. I'm not very attached to the source material or that knowledgeable about Greek mythology, so again I think my expectations were practically nonexistent! I thought it was entertaining. My fav Odyssey adaptation is O Brother Where Art Thou

Amaya GM

honestly very fair. i will admit to kicking my feet through much of it so maybe hater is too strong a term-- sometimes i think disliking something in some ways when many around you love it very much makes you feeel like a hater when really you're more of a critic. i very much Love o brother where art thou (and especially love the music!!) and have maybe come to the conclusion that i generally prefer adaptation with a bit of a twist rather than straight-up. especially of material i am fond of!

Finn

Loved every minute of this! Also the drawings of each character all look like courtroom sketches which seems very apt.

Nora

oh yayy!! distinctly remember being obsessed w s1 as a teen when it was airing and then never watching any of the other seasons for reasons unclear 😭 excited to see how these meddling kids got away with murder for SIX seasons????

Jane Mulcahy

That's an angle I hadn't even considered haha

Rachael Poulin

Totally agree with you that 15 episodes is an ideal TV season length. It gives you some room for more character focused moments rather than plot focused or to just have some fuck around time, but keeps things tight enough that it doesn't feel like they're scrambling to come up with stuff.

htgawm was my first “adult” show that i watched with my mom (excluding reality tv). i was a big fan of coliver (i still follow jack and conrad on instagram to this day!) when i started college, my friend and i would watch the show live as it aired and call each other on the phone, and we’d mute during the show and unmute to talk during commercials. i don’t remember when i fell off the show, but my mom convinced me to watch the rest when the show ended. i remember being SO disappointed by the finale. all of your opinions are objectively correct. i feel like Wes was such a weird character because he was written as such an innocent angel. i never connected with him despite liking Alfie a lot! your drawing of Wes made me giggle so many times.

Amanda Halbrock

I watched a lot of the show when it aired but never finished it. But apparently I made it halfway through season 6 because I distinctly remember them taking shrooms together. So many things you mentioned I had totally forgotten. They did some wild plots. And I'm with you on hating Frank.

Jane Mulcahy

yes that makes sense bc when an adaptation purports to be more serious or 'faithful,' they are opening themselves up to more scrutiny for sure

Jane Mulcahy

This is very validating. Talking on the phone during the commercials is so cute!! It was fun to have a kind of formal place to reflect on the show here bc it made me realize things I'd never really thought about before, like Wes's place in the show feeling kinda odd!

andie bansil

ok now that i'm halfway through this - as a filipino-american, i'm sooo happy to hear the love for conrad ricamora. i've been following his career semi-closely since his stage days! i actually watched the first 3 seasons of HTGAWM for him hahaha.

Jane Mulcahy

no he is like one of my princess dianas I love him (apparently he was supposed to be in Devil Wears Prada 2 but his scenes got cut so I refused to watch it)

Clay Thornton

I watched this show as it was airing with my mom when I was like 13 lmao but I remember liking Frank only because I was a repressed homosexual and I thought he was so hot. I remember trying to find gay fan fiction of him and I don’t think I found much but it was like my first experience w fan fiction😭

Clay Thornton

And I remember finding a lot of Coliver content. For some reason I didn’t really care abt the hot gay couple on the show. I’m sure there’s some internalized homophobia analysis to be found there

Jane Mulcahy

Okay I amend my thoughts, liking Frank is valid if you're a desperate gay child who longs to see him kiss men. I think that's actually maybe the only valid reason to be into Frank (this is also so funny to me because he's arguably THE straightest seeming character on the show)

Jane Mulcahy

I do get that! I feel like part of why coliver is so dear to me is that unlike a lot of canon gay couples, they're actually interesting and toxic and have drama. I'm also not always into a show's 'actual' gay couples in favor of fanon stuff, but these two are crazy and evil enough for them to work imo

Clay Thornton

I think projecting my gay fantasies onto the straightest character on the show somehow made it feel less gay to be into a man🩷

Phoebe Z

i love the drawings

Zoë Brauch

i was convinced i was one of those people who dropped this show after the first three seasons so imagine my confusion and horror when you described that later plots and i realized i had in fact watched the entire thing and then somehow erased it from my memory

Zoë Brauch

also fire island is so good! it might be one of my favorite pride and prejudice adaptations, it's actually really thoughtful and sweet. conrad ricamora is amazing as the darcy and nothing like oliver, he has the range!

noah

i watched htgawm for the first time last summer (it's my best friend's favourite show and she finally convinced me to watch it) so it's somewhat fresh in my mind but hearing it relayed like this really made me once again realise how much i love this show and its stupid convoluted storylines. no one does a secret incest baby reveal like them. anyways i'm very much with you on season 6, they really fumbled that in so many ways. like it's definitely one of those shows where creating a truly satisfying finale is impossibly hard but the choices they ended up making were still so much more frustrating than they needed to be. to me, it seems like a result of the pressure of sticking the landing (and i can definitely see a rushed production/more material than they had space for also contributing to that) but whatever it was, it's always sad to see a show squander the potential of its last season like this

Claire Roberts

I was really into htgawm as it was coming out but stopped watching sometime during season 4. Asher was my favorite character and I'm just now finding out they killed him off. Wtf

Ky

I started rewatching the show in anticipation of this video but I completely quit at the biphobia part in season 1 I forgot about that. it suuuucks. obviously the characters do much worse stuff too, but ughhhhhhhh. cool that they let so many people be queer on this show though that rules

Lee Cheeseman

you mentioned you love an evil gay guy and so now i simply have to ask: have you seen downton abbey? thomas is truly *the* evil gay guy of all time for both me and my girlfriend.

Brynn

Anyone else having trouble with this link/unable to find the video on YouTube?

Jane Mulcahy

It's unlisted, so you wouldn't be able to find it without a link, but the link should be working. If it's not working on your device for some reason, here's another link: https://youtu.be/okwb3UKkBO4 lmk if it's still not working!

Brynn

this link worked thanks! excited to watch !

Jane Mulcahy

lmao I never watched that much of the show (mostly sat in a couple times when my sister was watching the first few seasons), BUT my mom and I did go to see the first DA movie and omg Thomas was a hoot. I love that he seems to be that genre of character who's constantly being evil in all directions, but everyone keeps grudgingly forgiving him and saying "alright Thomas, you just really can't do it again this time" and him being like "hehe... I won't ;)" and then immediately being evil again and the cycle continues
