Hi Patrons! I realized I never actually made an update post for this month, and I wanted to let you know the status of the HTGAWM video. I'm editing it and hoping to get it done posthaste, it's just an extremely long unscripted video so kind of time-consuming to pare down (I started with over 4 hours of footage.) It's shaping up to be at least 2 hours and 40 minutes long. It's very much just me rambling about the show, including a lot of me struggling to remember the extremely convoluted plots of each season, but hopefully that will satisfy! It was certainly cathartic for me.

In editing, looking for old TGIT promos, I found this hilariously horny one from around when HTGAWM was premiering. You have to watch it immediately. I'm genuinely kind of touched/nostalgic at how blatantly they were appealing to the Lifetime wine mom-types. I feel like major networks not being as blatantly catered to liberal wine moms these days is yet another sign of the right wing shift in American culture. Bring back horny ABC promos whoring out all the male leads!!!

Next up, I'm thinking of preparing a Halloween video in advance. I'm often in London for the film festival in October, which I plan to do again this year. I just got my press pass confirmed! But what that's sometimes meant is that I'm too busy in October to make anything Halloween-themed, despite always wanting to! So this year I want to try to start working on one in September that I can hopefully have ready for spooky season.

Fun fact about me, actually really really sad fact, is that I've seen way too many installments of the Friday the 13th series, and despite having thoughts on all of them, I've never had a chance to discuss them on YouTube. So I'm thinking of having a big rewatch in the next month (plus finally watching the later ones I haven't gotten to) and making that my Halloween topic. I think I'd have a lot of fun doing it.

After that, once I'm back from LFF, I'll probably do another festival recap video, and then going into the winter maybe it'll finally be time for Hello, Dolly! That feels like more of a cozy, cold-weather video topic to me anyway. I've also seen requests for another Lifetime Christmas movie video around the holidays, which I'd happily do. I've long wanted to do a holiday video where I watch every Christmas-themed thriller Lifetime has released, but I've never had enough to work with there. The crossovers between the channel's holiday movies and thriller movies are exceedingly rare. But I recently watched one that I think qualifies, Deadly Girls' Night Out, which turned out to be surprisingly Christmassy. So with that and It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Murder, maybe I can finally do it!

HTGAWM Patreon exclusive coming soon! I'm done with my first pass so just need to go back over it to add clips. I was planning to only minimally use clips, to make things go faster, but the more I edit, the more I want to add more clips, so I might have to take a little longer to download the whole show and do a more in-depth edit. It'll be worth it to make you endure the parts of the show I had to endure!

Thanks for being here! Hope you're having a good Speedway Junky Summer!

I just finished season 4 of How to Get Away With Murder (I'm watching it for the very first time...thank you Tubi). Can't wait to see your recap after I finish the series!

Yayyy I want people to have actually seen it so I can talk about it with someone 😭 I remember liking season 4! It was kind of a fun new vibe. But also what Michaela does at the end of season 4 is pretty irredeemable especially from a 2026 perspective huh

heyitzmae

i know that you probably get comments like this all the time but you *could* talk about like taxes for four uninterrupted hours and i’d listen lol

Jane Mulcahy

Nah it's nice to hear whenever! I appreciate it!

hey so on rewatch episode two has awakened a deep memory of thinking rebecca looked so cool and hot that i twisted half my hair up every day for a month in middle school to look like her

The only Shondaland production I've ever watched is Bridgerton, which I think is pretty good; I recall you saying in one of the FR patreon videos that Shonda was kind of a liberal vanguard, dragging the rest of network TV leftward in terms of messaging/rep? Could use a bit more of that right about now.

Thanks for the update. Excited for everything coming up! If you do Lifetime Christmas thrillers (pretty pretty please!!! 🙏🏿) I would recommend checking out: Silent Night Fatal Night Dangerous Snow Day You Better Watch Out Murder at the Hotel

Jane Mulcahy

Thanks for these recs! I admit I did once watch Dangerous Snow Day at another time when I was trying to get this video going, and it disappointed in terms of both not being very Christmassy, and not even involving a snow day!!! 😭 But I will def look into the others!

Jane Mulcahy

Yeah I can't speak too much to the specifics since I haven't actually seen the data on Shonda's impact or whatnot (would love to do a deeper dive someday!) But the thing I always heard was that Grey's Anatomy in particular was influential with its race-blind casting process + ensuing diverse cast and writers' room, which I mention in this HTGAWM video. Grey's, and HTGAWM itself, are often very, explicitly 'woke,' in a way that's pretty refreshing in today's landscape that's grown more hostile to that sort of thing. It's been kinda comforting to go back to HTGAWM, in which characters are constantly, explicitly decrying the patriarchy and systemic racism and transphobia and stuff lol.
