I added a thing in the most recent update that was supposed to solve certain issues with AI speed, but it ended up causing more problems than it solved.

If you are using a video card with more than 8 GB VRAM, and you're having trouble with loading various characters or getting the AI story mode to load, please do the following:

Run the game and go into Settings/Advanced.

Click the local data button, which will open a folder in Windows Explorer.

In that folder, there is a file called cakemix.ini.

Right click and open that file in Notepad or another text editor.

Look for the [LLM] section, and a part that says numGPULayers.

If the number after the = is anything except 20, then...

Change numGPULayers=X to numGPULayers=20

If it was some other number than 20 where X is, please let me know.

Run the game again, and hopefully that fixed it.

Also...

If you are having trouble getting custom scenarios to load, but the official characters/scenarios load just fine, then make sure you are not trying to use an empty scenario. Make sure there's something in the scenario field before you start the chat, so the system knows what to do.

I'm putting fixes for both these and other issues in the new update coming in a few days, but in the mean time, I hope this helps.

Howdy- I was getting slow load times on characters, and have 8gb of VRAM (rtx3070). checking the .ini file, It had layers set to 30. dropping to 20 to test.

So, I don't have the most powerful laptop. But is it some incompatibility with Windows 11 that's making it impossible to actually start the chat?

I already had the value "20" in the specified parameter. But it still won't load.
