Alex, Josh, happy you continued the X files journey thus far. I had the impression (and you iterate that yourselves in the intro) that you like the show. Depending on your plans, why not putting the reception of the audience to a test? (Assuming you continue) why not give an upcoming batch of episodes the complete ST treatment, incl. your whiteboard reaction (which I love), putting out a call for patrion takes? And if the feedback matches those for the ST episodes, you would know if you can give the show a longer run. Anyways, I am onboard for ST since a few months. Personally I would love the X files journey to continue. And since you asked: I just upgraded my monthly subscription to the next higher tier annual subscription. Keep up the great work ! Concerning this episode: regarding the release date I always considered this one sort of a Halloween episode which had a slighly exaggerated plot. But it is funny to see what back in 1993 was considered an advanced and almighty AI system. Something which today is an average home automation system, running from your phone when coupled with some Google or Alexa (oh, wait...).

Well, like I said on another one of these, I bought the entire first season on Prime specifically because you guys were watching. I think it's a great addition to the channel, it matches your tastes for good writing, horror, and down-to-Earth science fiction character drama. There's also some AMAZING episodes to come in future seasons. I hope it continues.

Steven Johnson

I don't know about going FULL regalia for X-files(just because of the time and editing sync that requires, which could be spent on reacting to more of the show itself), but I do agree wholeheartedly it should become a more permanent staple.

C'mon, guys, stick with this incredible show! As I mentioned on YouTube, the addition of this to the Star Trek content was a major factor in joining Patreon and following you here instead. I really hope you stick with this. It's certainly one of my favourite shows. In fact, my wife and I are currently rewatching it again for the umpteenth time (almost finished season 4) and I'd love to share your journey through it, too. Please, please, please , please! ;) Yeah, middle of the road episode and hasn't aged well given the theme but still I still don't find I want to switch it off and will happily watch. Given what I've said above, I've lost count how many times I've seen this.

BusterB

Amazing reaction and always much love guys, tho maybe avoid looking up guest actors.

This was the first episode of this series I saw. A friend had just gotten a new computer for his birthday that he wanted me to see because it was so advanced with this new software called windows and this thing called a mouse. His parents kept joking all through the episode that he was going to build a deadly “computer being”. Yeah typing on a blank screen used to be common using the Function keys and ctrl combos for your commands. I’ve really been enjoying X-Files hope you continue.

Katie Jackson

This is a weak episode, however the next one is definitely memorable. Please continue. DS9 is a series that I'm not as devoted to as TNG and X-Files would definitely help keep me at my current target demographic tier.

Sherman Lin

More X files yeah this was a weaker episode....but keep watching

This episode definitely relied on its novelty in 1993. Very few people had home Internet connections, and when they did, the Internet was something that lived on the computer. You sat down and dialed in and checked your email and then you turned off the Internet for the day. The idea that you could use your modem to access another computer even when the other person wasn't there? Woahhhh. I do think this episode is poignant in that the evil AI seems like the personification of people's fears at the time -- that AI would eventually break out of computers and be everywhere and everything would be connected all the time. So, you know, the fear that they'd someday have to live in 2025 instead of 1993. And I gotta say, I get it.

Shatner’s Cigarette

When listing the various clandestine agencies, you forgot The Obsidian Order, Josh.

MrDeadstu

I agree the episode is weak. That said, for some context, back in '93 the internet was some bulletin boards/message boards and maybe some books transcribed onto the 'net. We used to get high in college and type random words into search engines to see what random website came up, basically wandering the early internet was all personal sites ( no businesses were on the 'net yet ) we were mostly saving pictures and GIF's. ( because it was cool that you could save an image from the 'net onto your personal computer...yeah I know...) I think other than maybe AOL, there was no central sites like FB, YT, or MS to congregate on the internet. Dialing and connecting with another computer could be a nightmare back then. So IMO this was more a 'murderous computer system' episode than 'AI phobia of the time' episode. Either way, KEEP watching, I am absolutely loving this adventure !

Keith S

The technology shows how 90s it is. Sully was using dial up for crying out loud.

Brandon Blume

Loving these reactions. This one is a little dated because of the technology/computer/AI archaic "Hackers"-esque portrayal, so you can't blame it too much for that. But it's got all the conspiracy/mystery trimmings of X-Files. Like Josh said, not great but not bad.

tyranusfan

Ah, the 90s, when Hollywood was enamored with computer hackers, and always (always) portrayed them as eccentric geniuses who rattle off fancy names like "techno-anarchist" and "electro-wizard." :)

Scribe31oz

Please continue. I upgraded my annual subscription a week ago because the Trek stuff, DS9 in particular is so good but also because you're doing the X-Files. You're my most watched subscription for this alone. I'll be here for all the seasons if you do them.

John A

Not the best one that you have seen, still think it holds up, just a bit outdated. I say KEEP WATCHING more X-Files

Thicketdweller

Just weird details of the show that I like such as Scully‘s FBI ID number and her home phone number spoken as comfortably as most people would say their own Social Security number You definitely have to keep going with the show. I agree with you. It seems like agent Mulder does a lot of crime scene tampering This was the Halloween episode that year I don’t know I’m kind of the Billy Miles here Love this show and once again, no spoilers from me

Thicketdweller

I used to like to visit the WU archive at WUSTL in capture GIF

Thicketdweller

I have to agree with somebody else you should give it the full whiteboard, treatment, and Patreon discussion he’ll, I would even pay a separate monthly to work out being on that sort of a bridge crew

Solarhunt

I think the reason for the AI being isolated in the building is that the internet didn't really exist as we know it. it was there, just much smaller and less organized. so there wasn't any path for the AI to travel along to find "nuclear codes".

River Acheron

A very weak episode, I agree. Not a bad one! But it's the weakest of the season up to this point. However....the next one is one of the best of the season and IMO one of the stronger episodes of the series. Given what the homage is, I have a feeling you will love it. I do not know if you have seen the next episode yet, so that's all I will say. :)

Ca$hWednesday

Inject more X-Files into my veinsssss

penoyer79

Love the show. absolutely want more. if i hadn't already joined for Star Trek i def would have joined for this show. This episode is bottom 3 of the season IMO. gotta keep going though. the best is still to come imo

penoyer79

very strong episodes coming.

Adin

More! These reactions are saving my Tuesdays

River Acheron

Like all those movies where you see two good hackers trying to stop the bad hacker, and they're typing really fast on keyboards. "Hurry! He's hacking into the mainframe! He just made it past the firewall!" Yeaaahhh....hacking doesn't work that way nor do those terms. But man 90s Hollywood LOVED terms like mainframe, kill-switch, firewall, the 'net etc. Even if...lets be honest....they didn't QUITE understand them.

tyranusfan

And most of the time the actor is just frantically pressing keys, not actually typing. Plus, all their screens look like old green DOS displays. It's really hilarious. :D

Mike Rogers

I'm discovering this show with you, so keep it up.

HeatheЯ

Yeah, the next is one of my faves, been counting down to it :D

Jonathan Llyr

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - if you keep watching so will I. And I noticed Alex make a reference to 2001: A Space Odyssey. Have you guys done a reaction video for that film?

Blane Mather

I hope you decide to watch more.

Troubled Tribble

More please the next episode was the first one watched it made me an instant fan.

Mark Chrisco

A timely bit of fun trivia. David Duchcovny starred with Brad Pitt in the 1993 thriller, Kalifornia. David played a writer researching serial killers across the country. Along with him was his girlfriend, played by none other then Michelle Forbes.

HeatheЯ

The FBI will be knocking on your door because it would be a crime if you stop here. Yes, please continue, I'd love to watch the entire series with you!

Billy T. Riker

This is a good episode for it's time, when the internet was still in it's infancy, but obviously a bit dated by today's standards. Keep exploring The X-Files... I want to believe!

Skye Maidstone

Please stick with this. Like with TNG s1 there are some stinkers in this season but not to the level of Code of Honor or when the Bough Breaks at least. It gets vastly better very quickly too.

Craig Brennan

Please stay with this show. After Star Trek this was easily one of my favorite shows
