What do you do when D feels too low but C feels too high?

D Jammers

You give it a fuk'n E !!!

GrimDark Narrator

While I know a lot of people hate this episode or think its bottom of the barrel quality, it's one of my guilty pleasures, even though I know its not very good. The mix of sci-fi and ancient ruins/archaeology atmosphere makes it unique for me. I would also think you guys would love the multiple characters Brent Spiner as Data performs as here. B from me.

HS

I hate when sci fi shows do the obligatory multiple personality episode. When it happens to a random character, I just don't care. When it happens to one of the protagonists, like here, it's annoying because I just want to see my weekly character, not impersonations. Snoozefest..

Kaleigh

I just don’t find this entertaining. It’s cringy. E

Doctor Pulaski

The scene with Picard wearing the mask and talking near the end just makes me break into laughter and completely takes me out of it. This could have worked, cool idea. Terrible execution - this is actually a textbook example of that.

jan

so funny - i love this episode - A for me - the silliness is endearing to me and i love the ceramics - also can watch Brent Spiner all day long doing craziness in different voices - the portrayal of superstitious religion is also of interest to me, as so much of theology is mythology for many practitioners

Ian Westcott

I want to like SOME things about this episode.. the production design is kindof fun. I guess that rescues it from an E. It's just so TIRESOME. So much long-winded speculation from Picard. So many slow conversations with old-man Data that go nowhere. Half-baked acting from Spiner who did the best he could under such constraints. It just didn't work. Despite random parts of the ship being transformed, no one even gets hurt and there's just no sense of danger. Everyone's just, "I guess it's Tuesday. Okay, let's get on with it." The crew is tired of this at this point, and so are the viewers.

How come the Patron Takes so positive? This is a disaster from start to finish

Brett O

I only recently found out that a lot of the fandom dislikes this episode, but I never really understood why. It's far from my favorite but it's more middle of the pack C+/B- for me. Interesting concept that maybe wasn't quite fully baked. I'd still watch this over most of TNG Season 1 any day.

Rocky hate Mark

Knowing what these actors and this crew are capable of producing makes this episode a crime against the franchise. This can be blamed on the writing although the production pace is probably the ultimate villain responsible. This was such a waste of potential. What I wouldn’t give to have this production team, cast and crew back together in their prime producing episodes. Even at a modern streaming 10 episodes per season pace.

Rick McCombs

This episode is too weird for me.

Dennis Hall

This one is the epitome of "Don't care"

Summer

I get why the premise sounds great, I almost wonder if some of the takes were almost playfully positive mirroring the episode. While I saw a lot of TNG first as a child this is one I don’t think I saw till as an adult on DVD. So I liked it less than I might have.

AQL

I like TNG a lot too, some bad to meddling épisodes I guiltfully enjoy...but this?

JimmerVision

Not an E, but a very low D. Would still sooner watch this 50 times over than Aquiel once! xD

TinMan_7B9

Cool Concept. Crazy Character Changes... Complete Catastrophy. C- (This used to be a B for me, but the dialogue never goes anywhere. Stop babbling Data!)

Jim J

E-tier. Worst of the season for me.

Evan Guthrie

Love this goofy episode. A for avant-garde

Jeff McCoy

Masaka might be waking, but this episode keeps me asleep. D

Lou Trek

An episode that makes you realize that maybe 178 of them were too many.

Linda Stricker

His acting may be amazing, but every time Brent Spiner uses a high nasal voice I cringe.

Kosh Naranek

It was his ridiculous character in this that put it in C-tier for me because it made me LOL.

HuskerChuck

Worst episode of season 7 for sure. IMO, worst episode of TNG.

Skye Maidstone

I hate this episode so much. I love Data (Brent is a great actor) but this is just horrendous

George Bratcher

I told you guys at the beginning of season 7, it had a theme. This episode is the epitome. They do less exploring in space, and focus more on the psyche of the characters, so this season is not completely, but mostly is psychological trek. I rate this episode a B, because we are dealing with an ancient civilization, which created an AI so powerful, it could rewrite the Enterprise Computer and composition, and was able to commandeer Data's programming, and Picard was able to use his gift of archeology to resolve the AI's puzzle lesson. Reminded me a lot of Egyptian and Aztec culture.

Notebook Industries

I love that TNG wanted to get a little weird (on a budget) so even if it's silly and camp it still kind of has a soft spot for me. It does fit the Season 7 theme of "Throwing spaghetti at the wall to see what sticks", though

Justin Craig

I am actually surprised at the outcomes of everyone's ratings. I actually love this episode because it allowed Brent to really let loose and show his range in a very unique way. Imagine actually having a whole civilization in your mind? His mind was likely the only one even coming close to be able to do that. And the ship changing could also be seen as having a fraction of that capability. It never changed people which is very telling on how basic most humanoid brains really are, they are just sentient meat after all.

Emodramabomb

Brent Spiner is amazing. This episode is not. E.

Steven Linden

I'm one of the outliers. Love this episode.
