Only the general good acting and camaraderie from the cast saves this from an E for me.

Paul Hess

I've never made it all the way through this episode, so I am an imposter voting on it!

Summer

Not a big fan of season seven but have seen it several times, yes I probably would watch this over masks and phantasams but so near the end makes the episode even worse

TinMan_7B9

Coo Coo Choo-Choo Confuses Crew. This used to be a B- for me, I like the weird episodes. But this story is just too abstract in a "Masks" kind of way. C

Numinous2019

This really feels like a very well worn type of story for TNG by this point. And clearly it was considered to be a quick to churn out episode. It strips away any engaging elements from previous similar efforts and relies entirely on plot mechanics. Dispiriting (despite David Huddleston's cameo).

TinMan_7B9

The result would be almost the same if the tired writers asked ChatGPT to write a 'holodeck-episode'. Ironic.

Jovet

One of the dumbest worst episodes of TNG and all of Star Trek. "E" Is it worse than "Spock's Brain" ? I try not to think about it, lest my brain grow a tumor.

Jovet

You're missing out, Paul. It's a doozy!!

Paul Hess

LOL that’s what worries me!

ScotchBeard78

I think the initial concept for this episode -- that the Enterprise itself displays emergent qualities and "gives birth" to a new life form -- is a really intriguing one. I just think it's not executed particularly well. It's also, noticeably, an episode that doesn't feel tied to any particular character. It might have helped a little if this had been about Geordi's relationship to the ship and its computer. Given that it's a Season 7 episode, and we're wrapping things up, it might have been interesting to see Geordi defending the ship's right or ability to procreate while the others are fighting to "terminate" the pregnancy, or SOMETHING. It's just kind of surface-y as a plot, and it deserved a lot more depth and character texture, but I feel like at this point in the season, a number of episodes felt a bit rushed in the lead up towards the finale.

AAckeret

I’ve watched all of TNG multiple times, own the blu rays, etc., etc, and somehow managed to block out memory of all of this episode, except the guy shooting the other guy on the train. E.

GrimDark Narrator

This one did feel like an episode done for the sake of filling a slot in the programming. The idea was somewhat novel but the execution felt weird and a bit tired. Out of all the wacky "out-there" sci-fi ideas attempted this season, this might be the weirdest and one of the most flat. C tier for me, as I think 5 tiers should be enough in this kind of ranking.

Linda Stricker

I was wrong. There is something worse than Sub Rosa. Much worse.

TinMan_7B9

A Sub Sub Rosa Emerges

Jim J

This is just a bad episode. I rate it a low D.

Mikaby

It gets a D, I guess. It's boring and feels pointless, and I hate holodeck shenanigans, but it's not particularly obnoxious or insulting, so it probably doesn't deserve an F (or what we're calling an E).

Mikaby

"Spock's Brain" is pretty stupid, but it's also a little bit fun/amusing. This is just flat, boring, and pointless. I'd definitely take "Spock's Brain" over this.

Jovet

@Mikaby You know what? I think I agree. "Spock's Brain" is so bad it's laughable. But this one is not funny at all.
