Sweet. This'll be a first time watch for me

Shatner’s Cigarette

I've never seen this, but it's been on my watchlist for some time. Now I have a good reason to move it to the top of the list.

Better Watch Trek

This film is a masterpiece! I knew the director from Great Expectations (1998) and when he directed Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Askaban, it became the first Potter I saw at the cinema. Two years later Children of Men was released and it was sooo goood! :)

Utterlee

I watched this in 2007 and found it absolutely incredible, for all the reasons you guys liked it too. But it also left me with this horrible anxiety because the dystopian future - mass infertility aside - felt so real and plausible, possibly because it opens in London and I was living in London then. Because it's so intense I didn't watch it again until tonight, so I could watch along with you. It's still an absolute masterclass in filmmaking, and frankly, in an era of climate crisis, mass migration, and the rise of the far right, the dystopia feels as possible as ever. Also definitely watch Gravity, it's stunning.

Glad you guys liked this movie, the first time I seen this I was just amazed with all the long shots, but as I re-watched it over the years it just sat in my gut. I just think its a masterpiece By the way the baby wasn't CG

WP is over 8 billion, increased by 1.5 billion since this film came out. Soylent Green is coming.

Oh, and there are a couple of videos on YouTube with the film makers going through the process of their long shots

Ooh, this is exciting. This is one of my favorite films of all time. it is a stone cold masterpiece. Some of the greatest filmmaking I've ever seen. Directing and Cinematography is stunning. Too bad it doesn't stream anywhere. I own it on Blu-ray, so I'll watch this once I get home

Miranda

This film wasn't nominated for Best Picture because not enough people saw it. Universal released it Christmas Day. It actually flopped at the box office. It is a rare case where the reason the film flopped really is due to the studio's terrible marketing. As of 2025, it is widely regarded by film critics as one of the best sci-fi films ever made, and one of the best films of the 21st century. I am convinced Cuaron's Oscar win for "Gravity" was a make up Oscar because they felt bad about not nominating him for this. This film is now routinely taught in film schools to discuss Direction, Cinematography, Production Design and Screenwriting. Re: Lubezki not winning the Oscar for Cinematography, he actually won every critics prize for Cinematography that year. He won the awards from the Cinematographers Guild. He won all the precursor awards. Essentially, the only Cinematography award he didn't win all year was the Oscar. (I really like "Pan's Labyrinth", too, btw.) I strongly suggest you go to YouTube and find the Behind-the-scenes videos on this which describe how they actually did some of those crazy shots. Though, if you have the Blu-ray, I think some of those "Making of" features are included on it.

Oh, and Alex was asking about the decision to film the scene of revealing the pregnancy in the barn, it was a visual reference to the Virgin Mary giving birth in a manger.

Miranda

The baby is indeed CGI. They can't film a baby that small due to union regulations.

Gravity is really good. And the CGI is terrific but it's about her character and story. the space stuff is just momenteum. Birdman is weird but worth seeing. Revenant is amazing. you two are a reaction audiences dream. you love movies and appreciate the tech part of them - but it seems like what you've seen barely scartches the surface. so much to explore. this is why i'm more excited about you guys watching movies than more shows.

Harry Broos

My mistake, you're right, I was under the impression it was an animatronic baby

Michael Mannisto

This is one of my favorite films of all time, and to me, one of the greatest sci-fi films ever made. Beyond the amazing narrative and acting, the direction, cinematography, action choreography, and especially the long shots are all a masterclass in filmmaking. This is one of those movies that needs to be studied in film schools everywhere. On a side note, is there any way I can get a movie reaction request even if I'm not a member of the bridge crew? I know that it recently filled up again. Can I make an individual donation or something? Thanks.

Target Audience

Right now there is no other option. If we ever get to the point where we are caught up on the movie requests completely with no more coming in and the BRIDGE CREW is still sold out, then we may add an additional option. We have 10 requests waiting to start the year, which will already take us into the Spring.

Like others I have never seen this film aside from clips, but it's been on my watch list for a while. I agree the cinematography is quite impressive, and I love how much the movie can keep you on edge. Aside from the scenes you mentioned, I also really enjoyed how tense the scene was where he was overhearing their plans to kill him from outside the window, and the one where he's sabotaging the cars so they can't follow. I also wonder if "blood" actually splattered on the camera lens, or if they added that in post? As for what would happen if they captured Kee, well unless a doomsday cult got her(I'm sure a few gained traction in that future), I doubt anyone is dissecting her. She's the first woman to get pregnant in 2 decades. They absolutely keep her under lock and key, do all sorts of tests, and no doubt make her have as many kids as possible. Not exactly desirable, but I suppose with the future of humanity on the line it's expected. I get the impression "The Human Project" would do much the same, just sugar coated as much as possible. Of course a single woman able to conceive would in no way be enough to ward off extinction. I kind of like that the movie never really gives us an explanation as to the cause. There's an implication the infertility was a side effect of the bird flu, but it wasn't concretely stated IIRC. It almost feels like there might be a supernatural explanation, like it's a punishment for humanity's sins or some such. But if the infertility is related to the bird flu, Presumably Kee has an antibody they could use to cure people still young enough to have kids. Still, with 20 years of nobody having kids, there would be a huge population implosion. But hey, at least housing would be cheap! Great movie
