Phenomenon (Doo - Dooo - Dah - Doo - Doo)

The moment I heard Josh saying he "dressed up" for this video, I half expected/half dreaded that he was going to be wearing the "Encounter at Farpoint" Deanna Troi miniskirt outfit HEY! If *I* had to think it, *you* have to think it too!

Some of us are working through our fifties and still don’t get to wear comfortable pants… 🙃

Dan Here

I dont remember wearing anything else than jeans since the 70's ☺️

Definitely 'bookmarking' to watch later. TNG certainly made a mark in my life as well

Really excited to dive into Voyager with y'all!

Voyager isn't diet TNG. It's anorexic TNG. I won't lie to you, it is a slog to get through. Look, a lot of people love Voyager. I'm relatively certain you guys won't be among that lot. You will have ample opportunity to compare DS9 and Voyager side by side. You will see that there is clearly a stark contrast between the two. All that being said, Voyager DOES have three of my favorite characters in the entire franchise. And some outstanding episodes. But I could count those episodes on one hand. There is a major problem at the core of Voyager that never gets fixed, You will know it when you see it. I DO look forward to rewatching Voyager along with you guys. I mean, other that the afore mentioned handful of episodes, I have had no desire to rewatch Voyager at all. Maybe that will change this time. You guys do provide some valuable insights and maybe I will find I was wrong about some things. Unlike TOS, TNG, DS9 and Enterprise, I have had no burning desire to revisit the series, so has been literally decades since I have seen most of Voyager. Maybe I will have a different outlook now. Perhaps Voyaging with you two will change my perspective. We shall see.

I like Voyager. With most Trek its all about what you want from it, but this cannot be detailed to you till you see it all

If DS9 is borderline Star Trek (essentially an independent series with mostly superficial ST branding), then Voyager probably suffers from being too 'mainstream' ST. I do like the Voyager main cast. I think Josh and Alex will find enough to enjoy overall, while the best episodes will give them a LOT to talk about.

I'll give Voyager some credit - It's not Diet TNG...but it is the store brand TNG.

Regarding VOY, it was the first Star Trek series that I truely watched from start to finish. I do not dislike it, like others do, no spoilers here, don't worry. You will see for yourself and can compare best between the shows and your preferences. I will also not rank it in regards to TOS/TNG/DS9 here, cause this can also influence your thoughts later on :) TNG and TOS was always something that I catched regulary but not in order and never all in a row before VOY. I switched on the television around the time it aired and then saw most of it. I did however see all the movies up till Generations and I finally really commited and started watching the show(s) in full, cause the characters and worldbuilding intrigued me. DS9 however I skipped a long time, cause I did not fancy the fact of it beeing all on a stationary....station and then not even a federation one...meh humbug! So after watching VOY and the movies (and playing some games) I went in order and started by going through TOS. I enjoyed the trio infernale Kirk, Spock, McCoy and their great dynamic towards and with each other on screen, was always a blast to watch with 1-2 really bad apples (I still hate those kids from the Miri episode, so annoying). I have to say...even thought it was often funny and janky with the costumes and sets and stunts...I really came to enjoy the series and "overlooked" the obvious hints at the time this was produced in. Marvelous. Then I started to watch TNG next and boy...did it not gripe me at the start. Season 1 was such a slog sometimes, especially Encounter at Farpoint with those long, no music, silent gaps inbetween and it was, except for some scenes, so booring to follow along. Still, "something" got to me and forced me to watch further. And it was not long to take root and later on I felt more at home on the Ent-D than on the old E and came to love all the characters. Was very sad at the end of the show, such a great finale. Best crew 3v4r! XD Then it finally came, my dreaded show on the list DS9. But to my general suprise and I stop with my review here, it was an absolute joy to watch. I guess you can feel it already in your current season 3 state, that they really know how to cook stories and get characters right. Exactly the right mix and great writing over all. Maybe I was also in the right age group by then, to also enjoy all the politics in the background to truely appreciate it, for what it was. Closest to DS9 is really only Babylon 5 for me. Also no spoilers there but they knew how to do worldbuilding and character stories as well. (hint hint...make B5 your follow up to DS9) I am fairly certain that you would enjoy it for all the same reasons that you like DS9 currently.

Voyager is my favorite of the classic Trek shows because of how it handles character, resilience, and emotional moments. It definitely stands apart from TNG in ways I think you’ll notice. Trust the journey — it’s not the same road.

It's the new flavour. Some people like the new taste. Others only want the original recipe. Personally, I can't drink diet coke, I hate artificial sweeteners. But Voyager is definitely NOT diet. There's only real sugar in junkfood after all! And lots of it! Bordering on saccharine sometimes. But very tasty!

Voyager is a special show. It has both the very best of Trek, and the very worst. You can't say they didn't take risks, and not all pay off..but when they do it's S tier.
