Ryan Roach

This is better than the real trailer.

Lyric

I love this movie

Greg Quinn

Remember guys they haven't actually watched it so don't spoil anything

Matchstick Jose

That was awesome! Great music choice. (Always loved that shot of the D in the foreground and the Bird of Prey firing on it from behind in the distance.)

Utterlee

My excitement for this reaction is off the scale, this is my single favourite piece of Star Trek in all the canon.

Darren

Visually this is one of the best Trek movies for me…. Great trailer better than the original

Darren

Just a thought think you managed to include about 90% of Gates McFadden footage in this 🤔

TinMan_7B9

My reaction to this trailer? 2:28

Goddess of Empathy

I'm so excited for this! I just know you were fuming about all the credits in the opening scene

Target Audience

It might be because it’s 5am and I’ve been up all night, but this made me laugh really hard

Brian Dunleavy

Typical 90s trailer - even includes the stereotypical (if updated for ST) “In a world…”

LonghillAndy

I’m off to bed wake me up on the 25th nothing else is important between now and then screw work 😂

LonghillAndy

Ah yes Data’s cumming face, we can only assume this is the face he pulled when he was banging Tasha 😂

Gavin Hewitt

Never saw this song being used in a trailer, but, you made it work ✌️✌️✌️

Philipp

Hell, yes!

James H

I must have missed the Patron Takes for this one, or maybe there weren’t any?

David Brown

Now I can't decide between this trailer or the one for 'The House of Quark'.

Nolan

Me, somber about the slow trajectory of my life and everything passing me by: Oh, the trailer for the Generations trailer dropped. That'll cheer me up. The Trailer: Time is the fire in which we burn. Fuck.

ShazD

Both love and hate this movie in equal measures. Will be interested to see how they react to the writers deciding to just burn Picard's nephew to death off screen lmao (one of the "I hate this movie" factors).

Zenlike Creature

Apparently Leonard Nimoy turned down the opportunity to direct this film. Also, during development they tinkered with the idea that "Kirk was not just a lone man in the Nexus. He was commanding a battered USS Enterprise-B (with Spock and McCoy), trying to escape the Nexus." I don't know how much of this is true but I think it could have made for a more interesting feature film. It's not that I hate this movie, I just think it's a rather down the middle, extended TNG episode with some fan service and feature film SFX. Look forward to hearing your views on it.

Crewman #6

Ah. These last two. I'd guess you guys must've watched them to make these? Very want to patron take these. At work can't watch yet >.<

Ramen Nudels

This movie is a very mixed bag. Could tip any direction on yalls reaction and im eager to find out.

Greg Quinn

Although I'm a bit curious how they made the trailer without watching the movie....🤔

Better Watch Trek

I freaking love this movie! It's visually stunning. great trailer btw!

dkenobi

Awesome edit. Pretty inspired trailer. More so than the movie itself I'd say. The song was a nice touch. Also, Riker saying "Fire" never gets old ;)

TinMan_7B9

Can't watch the final scene of "Family" anymore because of this. What were they thinking.

Ryan Roach

I love the B story with the Enterprise going kablooey much more than the A story with Kirk getting killed by a bridge.

Actuarial Lurker

Daddy, what is an H Tier? Well son, it when an E-Tier rating is too good because the film is a crime against Humanity....

Dylan Bottom

Who am I to argue with the captian of the Enterprise!

Greg Quinn

They haven't watched it yet

Paul Rymer

It’s always bugged me that they cut a major Geordi scene and keep a joke in it that Soran makes in the final version, so his joke makes no sense whatsoever (“his heart wasn’t in it”).

Laura Thornley

I'm unreasonably excited for this. Its not even my favourite of the movies. And yet, somehow, it feels the most important.

Vina

I'm pretty sure they have if they made this trailer for it :P

Naglfarius

you know what Time it is? That's right, it's Trailer Time!

Cory Paton

Fucking badass Josh 👌 got me really hyped for this!

Utterlee

Madness, this is the best Star Trek film.

Sam Langanke

No Guinan in the trailer? I am surprised.

Sam Langanke

How could Josh make a trailer without watching it?

tyranusfan

Just looking at the comments here, there are going to be some wildly divisive patron takes!

tyranusfan

I have a fun idea: you should look at all the theatrical trailers for movies I through VII. Trailers in the early 80s were truly atrocious, but you can see how movie trailers evolved over the 15 years, and get a good laugh!

Ryan Roach

Obviously they have.

David Kirk

The more I’ve watched this movie the better I’ve liked it. Still hate some parts of it but perfectly done trailer.

John M.

Super interesting to see which shots you chose that were in the real trailer.

Forbidden Donut

Right? The Patron takes never went up as far as I can tell, but they already watched it?

Fire and Bloodwine

I am a fan of this movie. Or maybe I just love the score.

Collin Freeman

Agreed. I have very mixed feelings about it.

Collin Freeman

I am one probably 1 of 3 people who actually would have preferred the originally shot ending for this movie with Kirk, Soran, and Picard. All in all, I have mixed feelings about it and would rate in it somewhere in the C to B category - mileage varies.

Todd

Anyone else feel like they've ramped up the DS9 watching just to get to Generations quicker?

Collin Freeman

Fun fact: this was THE first film to be advertised on that new fangled thing called the Internet back in 1994.

Raphael Gaytan

This is it. The BIG one. Captain Picard and Captain Kirk graced the cover of TIME MAGAZINE on November 28, 1994. That’s how big a deal this movie (and franchise) were at the time! Love the trailer, guys!! And you even used one of my very favorite songs! Can’t wait for your reactions! 🖖

David Wayne Fox

Despite the flaws, I really do like this movie.

Michael Mannisto

Movie is super underrated, imo. Also, did they not do patron takes for this, or did I just miss the posting for it?

Matt Everkoul

Great trailer! I seem to recall that Alex has an action figure from a deleted alternate opening featuring Kirk skydiving from orbit 🪂 I hope you guys also react to the deleted scene package as a bonus reaction and/or combine that w/patron takes

Ryan

Man did you pull out the best parts of this movie. The dulcet tones of Europe are next level (Nexus level?) here. I have some *thoughts* on this movie as a whole, but for now I just want to appreciate your fine work.

Birusan

I would have preferred an ending that mirrored the beginning. Kirk and Picard beam up together before the ship separates. The bridge is damaged, separation can only be triggered from the Battle Bridge. Picard starts to go, but Kirk stops him. "You're place in on the bridge. I'll go". Kirk watching the saucer float away as he sits in the center seat on the bridge of the Enterprise. The needs of the many outweighing the needs of the few. He's always known, he'll die alone.

Target Audience

Not spoiled in opening credits = not spoiled in trailer

Birusan

Got my hands on a script about a month before release. Very minor differences between the version of the script I had and the final version; a word or two here or there. But I'm glad they cut the line where Data called Lursa a "Garlic Muffin"

David Wayne Fox

Looking forward to the patron takes.... I have a great story about Dennis McCarthy

Actuarial Lurker

When several key actors REFUSE to be in the film after seeing the script When the writers INCLUDING Ron Moore say it was a first draft forced into production due to a lack of time to write the script AND say that the studio FORCED them to include stupid plot lines and admit that it felt like a badly written 2-part episode of tNG When the audiences complained that the plots destroyed the years long developed character arcs established as cannon for several star characters When they are so cheap as to use DS9 leftover uniforms for TNG charcters so they could dump the money into useless special effects to cover up the lack of plot - it DOES turn into an H Tier film....it has a 48% rotten tomatoes rating for a reason

Numinous2019

Maybe the single worst script of the 10 films. The worst possible combination: convoluted and makes little sense. Example (and I'm ignoring the BS Nexus mechanics): Picard changes the negotiation TWICE with the Duras sisters about beaming down to the planet....and they don't pull him up on this!!!

Numinous2019

100% agree. However they couldn't use the obvious plot for a TNG/TOS crossover movie, because they had done it in 'Yesterday's Enterprise'.....Kirk commands the older Enterprise back through the anomaly and sacrifices himself to save the TNG timeliness.

Numinous2019

I'll go with a low D. Everyone worked very hard on this and it was interesting to see how the technical aspects panned out transitioning to a movie. Otherwise it's pretty much a mess.

Actuarial Lurker

Agee that they meant well- the special effects and sound were great- the problem was having at least 10 plot lines and listening to the studio and not delaying the release until they had a better final script.... It was a harbinger for the current mess of Star Trek sequels that can be blamed on Paramount

Mark Chrisco

Fair film, but I wish Shatner had said No.

John Rose

Okay, am I missing something here? The full watch along is on the 25th so you haven't watched it yet? but you edited this trailer? There must be something I'm missing here.

Shanelle

Eh. Studios have their hands in everything. That doesn’t automatically make a movie or show bad. And if there are people who enjoy it for what it is, good for them! Let it be. Personally, if I have to pick a TNG movie to play in the background, it’ll be this one.

John Rose

ok cool, I hope you liked it, this gets so much hate and I never got why, I might be biased since I got to go on the set of this when it was being filmed( will post that story when the reaction posts) but I had a ball watching it

A Plain and Simple Tailor

Trailers you tiny little trailers. Where are the trailers.. beep boopy beep boom boom

Kristina Weber

I'm so curious what they will think of it. This movie is very divisive in the fandom. It's reaching for greatness and to me anyway, a swing and a miss.

Doctor Pulaski

Saw this in the theater, I loved it! Looks amazing on the big screen.

Kristina Weber

Yes! Kirk deserved a tribute fitting his character and his themes.

Collin Freeman

Yeah. Dying from a falling ladder just doesn't hit and is more disrespectful than how his death originally occurred. If it's Kirk, you'd have to shoot him the back - there is no other way Soran could have beat him except by cheating.

Thicketdweller

I stuck around for a second showing on its premier night

Matt Hansen

This was the first Star Trek I ever saw. I was 5 years old, my dad was a Trekkie and he took our family to the theater to see it. I remember being absolutely blown away, I had never seen anything like that before. I started asking my mom to tape the TNG reruns after. I would watch them every morning before kindergarten and first grade. I literally would not be here as a Star Trek fan without this movie, so it holds a VERY special place in my heart.

Thicketdweller

They didn’t really ramp up the DS nine there just was an absence of TNG

Elizabeth N

I've never actually seen any of the TNG movies, though I know roughly what happens and have seen clips. Looking forwards to watching this with you for the first time!

Thicketdweller

I really think that the meatier story ending there was Malcolm McDowell killing William Shatner Soren, removing Kirk from the equation Malcolm McDowell stated he wanted to be the most hated villain in Star Trek history by killing Captain Kirk, and he was robbed of that

Thicketdweller

I can tell you when you actually post the movie it’s gonna be so hot. Somebody’s gonna have to shout coolant leak.

Loot Narsbaar

Phenomenal trailer. Bouns points for not showing the Enterprise blowing up like in the IRL trailer

Loot Narsbaar

You took the worst movie in the history of cinema and made it look like something someone would want to watch. Incredible.

Matt Hansen

Seriously. It isn't even the worst Star Trek movie, let alone worst in the history of cinema.

Loot Narsbaar

They didn’t use leftover DS9 uniforms. Frakes used Brooks’, Lavar used Colm’s… that’s why they don’t fit properly

Phenomenon (Doo - Dooo - Dah - Doo - Doo)

I wonder if "Did you know Malcolm McDowell (Soran) is Siddig El Fadil's / Alexander Siddig's (Dr. Bashir) uncle?" will become the new "Nurse Chapel is the voice of the computer" tidbit? Let's find out!

Numinous2019

As Mr. Plintett said; "It ruined everything.....not just Star Trek!"

Michael Figueroa

I've been a member here off and on for the past year. But I've been on kick for full length reactions lately. So I'm buying this one and the other TNG movie reactions for sure. Great trailer guys.

Numinous2019

First, anyone who likes Generations (or even loves it) is fully entitled to that perspective. For a first film though, I would have recommended they find their feet with a more straightforward story. Side plots and character arcs could be added to that story spine. ST has this habit of going over the top with ideas (the first film, the fifth and this 7th) while the scripts don't know how to put that coherently together. Ambition is fine. But my rocket ship to the Kuiper belt is (like Generations) a misconceived ambition that will end up misfiring.

Raphael Gaytan

Careful, Loot. You seem to forget a certain travesty of celluloid called Star Trek V: The Final Frontier.

Numinous2019

ST V:TFF had serious production problems. It's a misfire. Generations had a compressed production schedule and a relatively small budget. It's a misfire.

Monty Crawford

while this is not my favorite, it's fair and makes for a decent transition into TNG. Could have been written better but hey...

Philbot

So you guys have watched it! I love generations probably more than most..

Cranky Grandma

Good trailer. Disappointing movie. I loved one TNG movie. This wasn’t it. Perhaps after all these years it’s worth a rewatch.

KingPin124

Trailer might be your best one yet!! ❤️ I also didn’t even know that people were SO BITCHY about this film. I thought it was mid-tier in the community’s eyes. I’m probably in that A-/B+ category.

Chris Nunnally

I'm about the same category range. Seeing this movie in the theater began my love for Star Trek.

Craig

Bloody hell. That woke me up. Stunning piece of editing, Josh! Great job.

Worf and Riker Ride Again

Yeah I agree, as a kid I loved it, but as an adult, they crammed way too much into it. I think it starts off really well but starts unravelling in the last third. It’s a shame as the action was a big step up for Trek, and the visuals and directing are beautiful. It just needed a bit more editing…

Mara

Oh....shit!

Phenomenon (Doo - Dooo - Dah - Doo - Doo)

From the scenes on the Enterprise B, it is so clear that all of Scotty's and Chekov's lines were written for Spock & McCoy respectively. But since neither Leonard Nimoy or Deforest Kelley wanted to reprise their roles after their triumphant send-off in Star Trek 6 (audibly clears throat before continuing to type), they brought in James Doohan and Walter Koenig instead

Ian Westcott

I don't think it's garbage, but it's certainly "disappointing."

Ian Westcott

I find it amazing that the same writing team wrote All Good Things and Generations. They had over a year to work on the story for Generations, and one month for All Good Things, both being movie-length scripts. Both Ronald Moore and Braga were a little mystified that the script for the series finale just worked better, even though it was done hastily. I think it makes sense -- Generations had too many things to pull in which compromised the story.

Joe J

Could pay them less also...always a bonus, lol.

Todd Beilby

I think there are lots of great moments in this film … and then there is Olivia Hack. Urgh.

Loot Narsbaar

I don’t blame them at all. To shoehorn Kirk and Picard in the same movie (after Kirk and co. had a graceful exit in ST6) and satisfy the egos of Shatner and Stewart and have the story work is a monumental task. It resulted in a rushed BORING disaster that didn’t have enough time to cook. Every writer has an Aquiel or a Captain’s Holiday.

Phenomenon (Doo - Dooo - Dah - Doo - Doo)

It's an enjoyable watch with a surprising number of "here's what you could have done differently to make it better" moments.... like ditching "Mr. Tricorder"

Birusan

Nurse Chapel is the voice of the computer?!

Birusan

They made a trailer for "Batman & Robin"?

Brian Crossan

At least with scotty manning the transporter made sense chekov being a medic came out of left field

JordanK1991

You can tell a lot of time and money went into making that ginormous Excelsior class model. Those shots of the Enterprise-B are by far some of the best close-up shots in Star Trek, and for once, they really succeeded in making the ship look massive.

Deliximus

Sigh.... Wish this movie would be so much better.

Evan Guthrie

It's still pretty good. Like a B episode.

Groovybaboon

This was my favorite Star Trek movie to watch as a kid along with the Voyage Home. It's not my favorite anymore, but I think it's better than the consensus says it is.

Paul O'Neal

I am definitely looking forward to your reaction to it. I don't think either of you will be lukewarm in your response. This trailer makes it look amazing though!

Dan Halstead

Oh man I wish the movie went half as hard as this trailer

Steve777

For me as a kid, when I first heard about the movie I had it in my mind that I was really looking forward to Kirk and Picard being on the bridge of their respective ships and meeting each other.

Aaron Wells

Yeah...trailer oversells this mess of a movie. Wasn't sure Final Countdown was going to work at first, but it got sent. :)

reactive1

When did the Patron Takes go up for Generations? I’ve never seen them.

Dan Murphy

I agree on the B. Movie is fine. It's that "Oh my" moment and its conclusion that I find seriously lacking.

Prof Moff

I am hopeful for the movie and your reactions. I like this movie WAY more than most so it should be interesting.

Scarpad’s Domain

TNG Movies are so uneven.. that being said I like Generations more than I should

Dee S. Nein!

Is there a spot Patron Takes for Star Trek Generations yet?

Keith S

A TNG technical manual diagramed the emergency landing of the sauser section. It stated that when this happened it wouldn't be space worthy again. When I saw this actually happening in the movie I knew that they had just destroyed the Enterprise D. I had heard they actually thought about doing this at the end of season 6. Couldn't do it because of the TV budget. It worked with a movie budget though.

Greg Quinn

They said they are going to put it up Friday (I think)

Philbot

If you guys ever do a cinematic trailer for a chief episode use Rocketman. “All the science I don’t understand it’s just my job 5 days a week.” “ I miss the earth so much I miss my wife.” Though chief probably knows all the science!

penoyer79

i called it months ago. this is going to be one of their fav star trek movies. they've never done a trailer for something they didn't like. so i feel good about that prediction so far

penoyer79

this is just cope cause it's not another epic spaceship battle movie.

penoyer79

they just cant not destroy the enterprise in a star trek movie.

Aaron Wells

Cope? With what? ....You know we're talking about Star Trek, right? My favorite Trek movie is TMP. Maybe you're confusing me with somebody else.

Mister Errik T

For the record — DEANNA DID NOT CRASH THE SHIP! She did an impressive job landing it after a warp core breach with minimal casualties.

Sam Langanke

"they've never done a trailer for something they didn't like." Just not true.

Fire and Bloodwine

Did you know Denis Lawson who played Wedge Antilles is Ewan McGregor's uncle??

paultardspambot .

So I can finally talk about this movie. I may be in the minority, but I found this really disappointing. I get what they were going for, but even Moore admitted they didn't pull it off. Seeing it was a lot like seeing Star Wars, The Phantom Menace. At first you just think its awesome there is a new star wars, then its like "wait a minute." I'll probably rewrite this on the reaction, but- 1. What a terrible ending for Kirk. As a final reward, he gets to live in a sort of Heaven. Till Picard pulls him out to help him win a fist fight against the next iteration of "Wrath of Khan was popular, so we need an iconic vilian". Not realizing what made Khan such an iconic cilian. 2. The development of Data and him finally getting emotions, which is a huge character arc throughout TNG, is basically thrown away for a cheap recurring gag. 3. They basically reuse a TNG plot of Geordi's viser being used to spy on the Enterprise, AND a Wrath of Khan element with the shields 4. The super corny forced "emotional shots" of the evacuation to the saucer section. 5. Having Ursula and Betor be in love with this guy for no real reason then to have some villians from the show and I guess because they wanted revenge on the Enterprise. 6. A general problem with these movies, that they want something that's not just for trekkies but has "cliched" movie action sequences that are suppose to appeal to a broader audience but just cheapens the movie. 7. The destruction of the Enterprise D without the glamor shots we got in Trek the Motion Picture beforer it's destruction in The Search for Spock. 8. When Picard goes back in time, there isn't a second Picard already there. This means he can go back in time and essentially replace himself. There was no need to get Kirk and travel back to the last minute. He could have gone back earlier and prevented the whole thing from getting that close, AND save the Enterprise in the process without having to pull Kirk out of "heaven" to die in an old man fist fight. One nice thing- resolving that Guinan's weird "sixth sense" about timelines and such comes from her exposure to the Nexus, not an inherent category of her species. People get confused about the Timeline, but she meets Picard here BEFORE she met him the 19th century, but from her perspective in the Nexus, she is there :longer" then Picard or Kirk so she sees all of time and her important role in relation to Picard. From there, she travles back in time to be in the 19th century and sees Picard again and "sort of" remembers it but can't tell him. This clarifies the time line and suggests that she may have actually "met him" multiple times when he was at different ages (it's compiicated) and after all this then seeks him out as a young man at Starfleet Academt and strikes a bond with him because she already knows a lot about his future.

Philbot

Dr. Bashir’s uncle!
