Shouldn't you guys be under 100ft of snow right now instead of dropping new shit? I'm excited to check it out 🖖

Target Audience

Don't worry, I already spent an hour shoveling my driveway and almost passed out. Now it's content time.

Pixels At Dawn

That's fun. Although I'm slightly suspicious you were just looking for another reason to talk about TNG now the series is finished 😂

Trillhouse

Gotta respect the hustle. Stay safe, guys. You can't get crushed by a Midwestern avalanche until I get my DS9 S4-S7.

Matchstick Jose

I’m on like hour seven of shoveling including yesterday. I think I began to enter a kind of Zen shoveling mode, where my consciousness left my body, but somehow my arms and legs continued moving independently. Also possible I have started to crack. Happy digging out, fellow snowed-in folks!

Joshua Gudiso

On the point of the actors adhering to the scripts, they were required to be exact to the letter of what was written, without deviations.

Collin Freeman

About changing lines: it is my understanding the TNG cast would occasionally do little changes and it was not a big deal. There is a guest actor for DS9 who said they stopped production when he changed 1 or 2 little words - it had to be okayed from someone outside/above the production crew. I can't say which actor or episode because you have not seen it yet.

Summer

Sounds like fun

Ramen Nudels

Very nice. Let's see Paul Allen's podcast.

Laura Thornley

I'm loving the enthusiasm you both have for Star Trek. And I'm so glad people here are supportive of letting them discover it without spoilers. Its tough not talking about what's to come sometimes because I love it so much. I'm waiting patiently. Maybe by the time I'm 50 (in 10 years) I'll be able to talk about my passion for all of Trek (so far) - there's so much to get through!

Katie Clayton

This was fantastic! Love to hear a deeper dive into this episode! I believe Patrick Stewart has mentioned before that he and Gates decided from the start of season 1 that they would play their scenes together as though they had feelings for each other. They crept alot of those little moments in wherever they could.

Summer

As an adult most Trek I have seen has been commercial free and I am glad, as a child it didn’t matter as much.

Dee S. Nein!

I'm confused. When is Generations coming to Patreon? All the channel trailers said it'd be out yesterday..??

Joe J

Dude, it was posted 2-days ago, lol.

Matchstick Jose

Alex is 100% dead on about the reaction to this episode. I literally had a friend call me after the teaser during the commercial break, screaming: “The Enterprise blew up!” It was great. Armin Shimerman agrees with Josh. On the Delta Flyers podcast, I remember him expressing surprise that the two Voyager actors on there never watched the episodes while the show was airing. For Armin, he saw it as an opportunity to watch his performance, see how it came across, so that he could make adjustments and try to get better as an actor as the show went along.

Target Audience

Common Armin W. I wouldn’t be surprised if some actors do watch their stuff but pretend they don’t because it would be seen as not cool or something.

Matchstick Jose

Armin is a professional’s professional actor. Somebody has probably mentioned this, but in any episode where he had a big role, Armin would invite any actors who wanted to, to come over to his house the weekend before they shot so they could rehearse, since rehearsal wasn’t a thing they did on Star Trek. So any scene between Armin and Max Grodénchik is something they had worked out how to play ahead of time themselves. I believe René Auberjonois would also attend some of these sessions.

A new podcast series from the TA boys? Even DEEPER dives into TNG and how it came to be? ♫ What's this? What's this? ♫ There's T/A everywhere ♫ What's this? ♫ There's Star Trek in the air ♬What's this? ♬I can't believe my eyes, I must be dreaming ♪Wake up, Jack, this is so rare ♪What's this?

Steven Linden

About the single camera thing: Yes, under normal circumstances TNG was a single-camera show, meaning that if there was a different camera angle the camera was moved for a different setup and it was done as a different take. However! On this particular episode, Frakes did shoot some scenes with multiple cameras, to be able to get different angles of the same take. (Source for this is a book called Captain's Logs: The Unauthorized Complete Trek Voyages).

Linda Stricker

I was ready to call the station when I caught the different angle and thought, ah-HA!

Dee S. Nein!

Really? I don't see it anywhere - just the trailer posts..

Fedora The Explorar

I'm not sure about TNG cause I mostly listen to DS9 behind the scenes stuff but 90s Trek was VERY dead letter perfect with ZERO room for improvisation. If the script said "thank you" and you said "thanks", you had to reshoot the scene.

TinMan_7B9

Dee S. Nein's chronometers are off by seventeen point four days.

Phenomenon (Doo - Dooo - Dah - Doo - Doo)

Speaking of Bridge Crew memberships, will any more of those be made available in the near future? Does Patreon restrict how many of those you can offer?

Scarpad’s Domain

Well at least you getting one of the worst episodes of Trek Where Silence Has Lease out of the way quick

Sam Langanke

My Trek buddy in these days recorded them on VHS and did the work to cut the commercials.

Jon Miller

You must, must watch the documentary series Center Seat one day. An eleven hour behind the scenes documentary series covering the behind the scenes history of Star Trek from TOS to Discovery, you guys would love it. Maybe once Enterprise is done.

Joshua Gudiso

Michael Dorn is a Trek actor that watched the show and was a fan of Star Trek before getting the role of Worf.

Target Audience

They don’t restrict it, I do. Gotta just watch to see when spots open. People do cancel.

Dr. Paul Stubbs

IIRC "Directed by Avery Brooks" appeared while Sisko was on the screen in Tribunal.

Target Audience

I don’t remember about Tribunal but it did in The Abandoned!!

Dr. Paul Stubbs

I didn't go back and check which one, so you're probably right!

Dr. Paul Stubbs

Oh yeah, that's definitely the one I am thinking of because he was holding the baby Jem'Hadar. Nice call!

TC Green

I don’t know much about the production side of things but this was interesting. I have always focused mostly on writers. If I know a director for an episode, it is usually because they are a cast member.

Billy T. Riker

What!?! Target Audience introduces a new format, a deep dive into the background/ making of a beloved episode of STAR TREK: TNG? Are you fucking kidding me right now?!? "All hands! Abandon ship! ALL HANDS ABANDON SH..."

Prof Moff

have my $250 wine, my caviar, and I'm now talking like Thursten B Howell the 3rd. I am ready for snooty high brow theater talk. ........... Wait this is TA. Let me grab a beer, nachos, and let out my inner 16 y/o shit talk.

Doctor Pulaski

This is some great Pod fellas. Small correction: single cam productions may often use two or more cameras, but they are focused on getting specific shots. Multicam usually has four or more cameras and they are often fixed like in a sitcom and they are used to get simultaneous coverage of an event, like sports or a sitcom which is basically a stage play event.
