I’ve never got around to watching this one. Looks like I finally have an excuse.

Didn't you recognize her from 'The Bourne Identity''? That's what Franka Potente is most known for by american audiences 'Run Lola Run' was her ticket to Hollywood but it didn't work out in the long run.

Huh. Interesting choice.

Hey, so glad you guys enjoyed this! I've seen it a few times over the years, great stuff. Some thoughts: I never got the impression any information was passed from loop to loop, it's just a narrative device to drive the "butterfly effect" point home: one tiny change can change so much more. I think Lola just figured out the gun safety latch on loop 2 b/c she had more time to think. The guy in the back of the ambulance at the end is the bank security guard. In each loop, especially towards the end of each bank sequence, he starts looking kinda terrible and out of it, because he's about to have a heart attack. I think Manni gives the bum the gun at the end b/c he feels bad for the guy: he was completely broke, then got a bag of cash, and Manni's taking that away from him again. He's stealing his good fortune. So he wants to soften the blow. (Giving him a *gun* tho is pretty damn trusting.) I really like how what Papa knows at the end of each loop is so different with only slight timing changes: 1. His mistress is pregnant. He thinks it's his baby. He's frustrated. He tells Lola he's leaving their family and starting anew. 2. His mistress is pregnant, and he knows it's not his baby. He's pissed. She had time to tell him b/c Lola was slower, with the limp. 3. His mistress wants to have a baby with him, or so he thinks. Herr Meyer wasn't delayed this loop, so he cuts them off even shorter than loop 1, and she never tells him she's pregnant. He's happy as a clam. Finally, in the beginning of each loop, the woman's on the phone "of course I knew you were Sagittarius" or whatever. It's like a middle finger to the entire idea of horoscopes, when one thing can change everyone's life drastically.

Love this movie & the soundtrack is fantastic for working out to. One really cool consistent detail… the image quality varies depending on the timeframe and whether Lola & Manny are in the scene. So if Lola is in a scene, it’s shot in 35mm color, if the scene is happening “live” but Lola is not present, it’s shot on standard def video, and flashbacks are 16mm black & white.

This is one of my favorite movies and I love the soundtrack. It was on heavy rotation in my car for a while. Glad you enjoyed it. (Not always guaranteed with movies I like. But then, I'm forty years older than you two, so there's bound to be differences of taste.)

Love this one! I for one do think information is passed from loop to loop, there's a few things like the safety latch and the security guard seeming to get freaked out over a latent memory of her. Braincanon, her in the casino is attuning to countless or infinite other times she's been there. She has never and will never accept a lesser fate

Matt Damon said in a recent interview that he got good at "film running" in the Bourne movies because of the tips provided by Franka from her experience on this movie.

Meanwhile, in Space....

Robert Picardo isn't in Run Lola Run. Maybe you're thinking of some other movie?

Danny Engel

One major oversight: The guy in the ambulance was the bank security guard. (You could see him holding his chest in the second run, when she robbed the bank.) I have seen some speculations that he is Lola's real father.
