Lazarus was raised from the dead by Jesus.

Collin Freeman

Lazarus is a biblical reference. It's the name of the man Jesus raises from the dead.

The common name for what likely occurred in this episode is called a "Walk-In" or in this case it may have been what is called "Soul Braiding". Most common walk-in scenario: Accident, illness, or trauma brings person close to death Original soul departs during crisis New soul enters as body recovers Person survives but is fundamentally changed Often no memory of the exchange itself Walk-Ins: Soul Replacement Phenomenon https://mysticryst.com/blogs/the-mystic-journal/walk-ins-soul-replacement-phenomenon

Yay! Back with The X-Files! Feels much longer than a week with all the Star Trek (not a complaint, I'm here for both). A good episode in which you (the audience) know what is happening and you get to enjoy watching Mulder and Scully trying to figure things out with their unique takes on the scenario they find themselves in. I'm glad you enjoyed this episode and the solid streak continues with episode quality, too. Very much looking forward to continuing this journey with you.

Love this episode. A nice season one standalone. If it weren't for the tattoo, one could've interpreted the story in a non-paranormal way, as Willis being totally obsessed and the near-death-experience triggering the change psychologically.

Don't worry the series won't drop off from here ...this isn't an A episode its a decent one only because they're all at least decent....I can't wait till you see the really good ones they're coming....remember the ratings got better and better and with the ratings came bigger budgets and bigger surprises sets etc eventually it became a really big hit show...thats all in the future

I swear to god, the scene where the guy gets back with the girlfriend and all the sex implied talking was NOT written by me!!!!!

I am glad this warm blanket called The X-Files is back. We get some Scully LORE in this one, an old flame, ooo spicy. I am already getting antsy just thinking 'I can't wait until..' or 'I can't wait when they find this out'. This is going to a really fun ride, although stress inducing with me being completely in the know. Buckle-up gentleman, keep your hands inside the ride at all times, let's GO.

Once again love this series, glad to see another reaction. Looking forward to the next one.

I watched X-Files throughout its whole run in the 90s/00s, and unlike many other shows, the opening credits music never got old.

Phenomenon (Doo - Dooo - Dah - Doo - Doo)

When I see Mulder using that mid-90s Nokia cell phone with it's nickel/cadmium battery, I can feel the side of my face getting hot. After speaking for more than 7 or 8 minutes on one of those things, they would get so hot you could light a cigarette with it

Lazarus is commonly referred to resurrection - derived from Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead in the New Testament.

Woohoo more X-Files. I joined for Star Trek but I think I prefer the X-Files. Less horrible takes (joking).

Scarpad’s Domain

one of the weaker ones of the first season, nothing inheently wrong with it just kinda routine and dull

a Question for thr boys, are their feelings for X-files a little more level, because its something original opposed to against so many different Trek Series?

TheSisko

No - that guy’s name was Vedek Bareil

I agree the tattoo wasn’t really needed. Jack did tell Scully at the end he was born the year of the rat so I think it was alluding to the tattoo somehow but wasn’t needed. I still like this one

Alex Gansa went on to do Homeland , a great show

This never was a personal favorite, but as you've said before, even "the baseline" can still be good as a work of entertainment, even if not A Grand Mystery(tm). Still enjoyable. I agree, his intuition at times can seem a bit plot-convenient, but some things you let slide. Personal opinion, you're going to have to wait a LONG time for "a really bad episode", they're there, just many seasons out

Mel Schleming

I've consumed a lot of "the peripheral media" - other fans' podcasts, analyses, etc, including a fun one titled "Fox Mulder Is A Maniac", revisiting every episode through the lens of "how quickly would this person be fired, if this was a real-world, sane, normal, functional FBI?". I wouldn't recommend it to you, mostly just because it's a lot, and you already have way over-full plates, I only mention it to let you know that your series is already having a comfortable seat in the pantheon of quality XF analyses :)

One of those episodes that is exceedingly straightforward in its plot (criminal turns on criminal, love story). The flavor of a consciousness transfer is interesting, but it excels overall from excellent direction and performances. Christopher Allport as Jack came in as a standout guest star.

Never thought much of this episode but I'm glad you guys enjoyed it ❤️

I REALLY like the tattoo thing. I didn't think it was an identifier to draw them together in the audience's mind. I think it was some random tattoo he got years ago and didn't understand the significance of it but it was the REASON he was able to come back. And it supernaturally reappeared on Willis's arm. And disappeared when he died again. But nobody noticed it. And I love that this is not explained anywhere! Mulder doesn't even notice it and doesn't reference it as any type of supernatural tattoo. I actually never thought of it just being a visual identifier for correlation. I guess if that is the case then I gave the episode more credit that it deserved. I thought of it as the direct cause! It's more fun to think of it that way anyway. The doctor described the pilot survivor's memories including those of the person his wife was having an affair with. So in a typical case you maybe just get some memories. But in this case the tattoo actually caused his whole being and consciousness to come back, not just a couple random memories. I choose to believe my theory lol.

Target Audience

Haha that's awesome, definitely makes the episode better to think the tattoo itself is the cause! Imagine an ending cliffhanger where we see it appear on a random nearby person!

Martin Wilson

Surprised that Alex with his attention to detail re Directors didn’t recognise David Nutter from Game of Thrones including the Red Wedding episode.
