TIER RATE Star Trek DS9 S3E7 - Civil Defense

Phenomenon (Doo - Dooo - Dah - Doo - Doo)

While I thoroughly enjoyed the escalating levels of peril everyone found themselves in, it's the "Attention Bajoran Workers" meme that will live on through eternity. For that alone, this episode deserves an "A"

Evan Guthrie

A quality but the humor brings it up to an S

Scott Woodward

A-tier for me. I like that someone in the Cardassian high command was like "Look we know starfleet sympathizes with Bajor and we know that Starfleet officers have an uncanny ability to solve their way out of every problem and space phenomena they encounter on a weekly basis. So you'd better make this automated security system with a series of redundant and escalating levels of danger to counter those little shits." Also Garak and Dukat level the entire episode up signficantly. Dukat's smug, petty little way of sitting down in Sisko's chair and flicking his baseball off the desk is incredibly on point. And then the sad trombone when the program turns on him.

Locutus2359

Dukat seemed more upset with Garak for revealing his attraction to Kira than betraying his father. The man has his priorities right.

JimmerVision

Very very solid A tier imo, boreline S!

parz1fa11

it's a fun episode but not a personal fave. so I give it a B+

Actuarial Lurker

an A because you have to curve DOWN for all the real S Tiers that start hitting from here through the end of Season 7

Brian Salas

This episode is a hoot. Lots of great character beats and the birth of the Attention Bajoran Workers meme. 9/10.

Herby Ragan

A! Just a very good solid episode!

Numinous2019

It's a nice variation on the standard disaster episode. Emphasising the characters over the mechanics of the looming disaster. So that's refreshing. It still is a standard story concept for TV all the same.

TinMan_7B9

Bajoran Workers, this is a B! Comply with this rating, and you will not be harmed. Rejecting this message will not be tolerated. The first half is an A, with these great Dukat and Garak rivalry scenes. But in the second half, after Dukat is locked out of the system, the episode slows down to C-tier. Average B.

Sometimes a banger bangs so hard on the door it becomes an A. This is one of those times. I can't massively justify it but there's something about the flavour combinations in each story: Dukut Vs Garak Vs A replicator, The old faithful Odo and Quark, and Jake's my two Dads in the ore processor of doom adventure. Just fun can be enough.

Alexander McKechnie

S tier for me! I love the constant escalation from minor annoyance to eminent destruction and how Dukhat gets swept up in it, first gloating and prancing but then he's in just as much trouble! And the call-back (perhaps unintentional) to the bridge defense phaser system in TAS has a warm place in my heart.

jon bolton

Strong S. It's one of my favourites of the Season.

B+ or A-. The plot hole here strains credibility (it would have been an excellent S1 episode, it's not that believable they would run Cardassian code anymore by S3), but otherwise, it's just an amazing episode. Gul Dukat gets to be a magnificent bastard before he's hoisted by his own petard.
