Never had any problem with the actor playing Bareil, although I would have had a problem with him as Starman. He was the initial choice for that film, which would have meant no marvellous Jeff Bridges performance.

Your comment about there not being any other good Vedeks exposes a DS9 trope in that Vedeks are kind of like their equivalent of Starfleet admirals. Often brought in as a source of conflict so they get a bad rep.

Well wasn't that fun. Aaron having to say/Nog saying some of the most heinous to hoomon shit XD An interesting mixture of "HE DYING" then "I feel bad" and feeling for the ending. Whodathunk a Bareil episode getting top marks! Whooo! I'm glad you like Siddig/Bashir. He's on the underappreciated side I think - but damn if DS9 ain't a crowded field.

It's not so much that there are no other good Vedeks. The thing is Bareil is most likely the one who was able to swallow his anger at the Cardassians and build a rapport over months and months (they did say the talks had been going on for months at the point he was injured), and even the best Vedek other than him would have to start all over again. I mean if you spent months talking to one guy, and then the people you were talking to were suddenly like "he's dead here's someone else"... would YOU trust them to hear you out the way he did, to be able to make the same requests or demands and so on? Probably not. That's the point they're making, not that there aren't any good Vedeks except Bareil.
