[I'm going to re-write this comment to make my point more clear] I still remember how deflated I felt when Odo announces that he is in love with Kira. I know this had been foreshadowed (very briefly in The Collaborator and then in Fascination), but realising that the show was going to commit to it left me SERIOUSLY disappointed. The friendship between Kira and Odo was (for Star Trek anyway) written in a complex and mature way. It wasn't healthy either, since both have personalities prone to the same flaws. They both needed contrasting personalities to find and confide in, whether other main cast characters, or new supporting characters. Going with the love angle throws nuance out the window. It's essentially a quick end-run to DRAMA and BIG EMOTION and hooking the audience into SOAP OPERA dynamics. So goodbye to a refreshingly reserved interaction between two wounded characters and hello to TUNE IN NEXT WEEK to see if Kira will ever find out. That's kind of obvious and even a bit cheap.

They've done unmanned shuttles in orbit a few times already, its not uncommon, the computer can transport you site to site even. The episode of DS9 with Sisko, Quark, Nog, and Jake where they go to a planet and meet the Jem'Hadar, the shuttle was in orbit with nobody in it.

Combadge gives coordinates and allows computer to verify identity based on voice gives you specific levels of access. So they can leave it in orbit. I have always liked this episode. Especially the growth of Nog.

I did a deep dive into the episodes for examples of this. The first time a shuttle is left unmanned and beams people on and off of it, its TNG S04E01, Best of Both Worlds Part 2. Worf and Data beam onto the Borg cube to get Picard, leaving the shuttle empty, then beam back to it with the computer only, and leave. Also, S01E09 of DS9, The Passenger, Kira and Bashir are alone in a Runabout, they beam to another ship leaving it empty, and beam back with survivors (although its not shown).

i am a huge trekkie i went to the first star trek convention ever in my country and i was barely 6 years old i watched all the shows 10+ times. i knew the main casting actor names when they were in the intro "xy AS wz" but if only the name was shown i not even knew the name of the main cast actors expect a handful i think i learned the name of worfs actor 1-2 years ago and i watched tng like easy 20 times from start to finish. and every name of a side character would be absolute nothing to me. i still dont know the actor who play gul dukat or Garak ... i still dont know it xD and i only know eisenberg is nog because you said it so often but i never knew before watching you :) i think you are rly special in a way you care about teh actors but to me for SURE back then and STILL NOW ... names in the credits are meaningless letters xfor 95% of all tv shows xD as an extra example i am a HUGE firefly nerd i god loooove that show, i know that nathan fillion is the captain tudyk is the pilot and there is a Baldwin who isnt related to the Baldwin brothers ... the other actors ... nothing ... wait summer glau i think is in it ... thats it. i watch the show every damn month i LOVE IT but i just dont know the actors and the reason i know even the ones i know is because i watched alot of interviews with them. and when i ask my trekky friends name me the actor of diana troy not A SINGLE ONE could name her xD

jaeh i know the feeling sadly I AM ROM xD highly gifted got an full stipendium offer from the top elite college in my country but i had the wrong RELIGION to go there. and then ended without anything higher then comparable to a highschool degree and now earn half as much as my colleges who have a universtity degree while doing 3 times the work and explaining them every 2 minutes how stuff works ...
