Christopher Boutwell

Of all of the Deep Space 9 episodes, this…… was definitely one of them…

Loot Narsbaar

If you could edit this one down to about 12 minutes or so

Boring. Not funny. Completely forgettable. I think this episode is what most people would think of when they think of a Ferengi episode. The worst part is that it doesn't even provide any character moments. This episode provides no development for any character. Quark could have easily been written to learn something from this. There could have been a message. But there isn't. Even the Bashir storyline doesn't really do anything. They don't do enough to invest us in the award and how Julian feels about it to make the outcome feel weighty. If you never watched this episode you would miss absolutely nothing.

It's good that episodes like this exist. Like a palate cleanser for all the good.

Aw, this one's fun

Well I looked up what the last Star Trek to air before I was born was, so I did get something out of this episode existing (it was Clues, nice). I do really enjoy Armin Shimmerman as Quark whatever he does, it's not on him, what really get me about this episode is the jarring mix of silliness with the Nagus vs oooh ethereal and serious with the wormhole entities. The stories and characters just don't know how to interact with each other satisfyingly. I'm not saying I know how it could be made better, just that this is not the way 😅

Hey do you guys have plans to watch The Orville? Funny that you'd mention Family Guy when Seth Macfarlane knocked it out of the park with his Star Trek love letter of a series... Once you get past the awkward comedy bits that he had to stuff in there at first to sell it to the network! I stuck with it initially because of the shots, the lighting, the direction, the whole mood was old school Star Trek even as it was still finding it's feet. I definitely can't be the first person to recommend it, and I won't be last, I'm a happy filling in the Orville recommendation sandwich 👍

Mister CPU

One of the award nominees is from Altair 4, hmmmm.

Mister CPU

Star Trek is about exploring ideas. You guys got a good bit of discussion about the contrast of Ferengi untra capitalism vs Federation socialist utopia.

Nathan

The Nagus isnt necessarily funny but he is a fun character. I like Nagus episodes.

Determinerik

Alex & Josh discussing the possibility and feasability of a communist revolution, because the current late-capitalist system is a shit-fest. sweet

I just thought it was just fine, but it was definitely nice that it sparked your discussions. So you guys aren't deep into the sci-fi lore and such, but nonetheless it still made you think about the concept of how the Star Trek future of no money would work.
