These past few pages have been really fun, gotta love a good story

I wonder what other grassland animals will get the same idea. A storm created the Zenith, and now the Zenith are a storm spreading to countless areas of grassland, pressuring many animals to take the opportunity to be something like their first sun and moon and join against them. Could be as simple as having more than two large/medium predators and/or prey animals.

Yikes. There's the confirmation some of us have been waiting for. Other herbivores are "driven out" of their own lands for the bison-- with absolutely zero regard given to what the "grazer"'s diet actually is. There's no doubt the Pronghorn were legitimately threatened by those Zenith scouts, in spite of the fact that bison and pronghorn don't even graze the same grasses.

I think these last few pages are my favorite art of the whole comic, and that's a really damn high bar. The sky as a metaphor, the use of that throughout these pages, the light and shadow, the way the mythologized past isn't as detailed as the present time... The artwork isn't just meaningful, it's also so damn beautiful. You've really outdone yourself here and I wasn't even sure that was something that was possible.

Not much different from how predators are driven out of the Hollow or killed if they don’t conform to not hunting the residents. I guess it’s better with the Hollow because they’re not moving around to threaten apex predators and herbivores all over the state. Defensive rather than offensive causes a lot less problems for surrounding animals. Plus they’re a safe haven for far more animals compared to the Zenith who only really let in two different types of animals, if you don’t count the little bit of mix breeding with coyotes.

Well, I do think there's a substantial difference between the Hollow having a law against murder, vs the Zenith self-describing as a roving disaster that slaughters or brutalizes anything that doesn't get out of their way. Rask himself is out there admitting that hunting became morally wrong when he understood that meat is some*one* rather than some*thing.* If anything, I'd say the Zenith and the Hollow are pretty close to opposites.

If I had to bet, I'd say elks. They're competitors for the same sorts of grass and browse bison eat, are a social species that lives in herds, and are big enough to stand a fighting chance without weaponry. I could totally see a bunch of elks rallying to defend a valuable territory from a Zenith invasion. Toss in a good speaker who can charm some whitetails and pronghorns based on shared values, and you've got a little alliance going.

Absolutely gorgeous lighting! Any chance there's a textless version of third/middle panel?

Or something a lot more simple for the grazers that already know how to start fires. Study the guarding behavior of the wolves and figure out how to trap all of them in a grassland fire. Hap said she figured out how to deal with sharp animals, but did she figure out how to deal with sharp fire animals? I don’t know if she’s even aware that fire is used to create the weapons 😅.
