Who bet that’s the skull of the first moon. Although I get the feeling that there is more to this then it seems. The whole “give Life so that we can give Lives” thing is kinda sticking out to me. Will the wolves have to sacrifice a few of their pack mates?

This is a very peculiar episode of "the Price is Right"

Well, they do risk their lives by fighting off interlopers or other prey animals with weapons that might threaten the herd. I'm guessing that's what Hap meant by "give our lives to the herd."

Dhaka Yeena

Oh ya I get that, but still I wouldn’t be surprised if the herd had the pack cull themselves once in a while

Luckyclaw

One whole bison? You could make a stew out of that to last all month! God... they probably don't even know how to make sausages...

Marcwolf

The rest if the young male Bison literally drawing straws and saying goodbye..

I remember a brilliant story. 2 planets, both over populates and resource dwindling go to war. In space the two war leaders meet secretly and talks. Neither can make the hard choices for their own people I.e. reducing population. But they can agree to be that for each other's planet. So they take over each other's planet as the victor and cull the population back to sustainable levels. 10 years later the 'rescue' their own planets - now in a far more survivable population.

I don't think they've evolved to the cooking stage yet. They don't even know how to use fire as a tool. The little mammals have them beat on that already.

it's so funny how Gristle has to disagree with Rake on everything, so here it means he's optimistic for once

HOLLOW LADS STAY WINNIN'

Funny how the Bison seem much smaller than the ones in real life. IMO, they should be twice as tall as the wolves when standing up. And I still find it weird that they have no front hooves

Yeah, feeding one of these bison to the wolves doesn't provide nearly as much as an IRL bison would. In general though, animals in this world are much more homogenized in terms of size. Animals like mice are much bigger than their IRL counterparts, and animals like moose and bison are much smaller. They still have hooves, just anthropomorphized hooves with 4 equal digits and a thumb instead of the usual 1 or two big main digit(s) + however many diminished digits. Strictly speaking, hooves refer to the keratin covering at the end of the 'fingers', and not really the overall structure of the hand/foot. So they still have hooves here Would be kind of unfair for all non-ungulate species to gain the power of thumbs and grasping, and have ungulates be left out.

Julian Seguin

I just figured their digits would “retract” into hooves. Because as they are, running on all fours seems highly impractical.

Remember that the Zenith wanted Swift, because she is an able hunter... but her mate and pups would not be accepted and would have been killed off, sacrificed, because they want hunters. Because Swift has killed one of their own, Swift and her entire family is now wanted dead and are now hiding in the woods with limited options. The Zenith knows something is going on in those woods, especially since Gristle gave them the metal tooth, and they WILL eventually go searching in there. Swift knows she and her family cannot stay in the woods. She also mentioned that there is no chance to get through a mountain pass, not with big cats there. And that is why she told Rask to set up a meeting with Oren after seeing Stone Hallow and probably overhearing everything Rask told Red. The only way to save her family and keep them safe is to seek sanctuary. I am sure Rask will tell Oren everything he has found but whether he and the Stone Hallow would even consider accepting a family of wolves is... unknown. Swift is the only danger, but whether she can reject their instincts and become something new is... also unknown. I mean, looking back, she isn't willing to lose any of her family, even going against her own pack when Red was first maimed by the Bison and was told to abandon him. Maybe she might be willing to become something more... EDIT: Also, her pups mentioned a "flying rabbit" saved them from their uncle, so a lot to consider. It has also been a while since we last saw Hemlock, so we'll probably get an appearance from her, perhaps maybe when Swift and Oren meet? Just a guess.
