Oh man. That last panel goes *hard*. I love the skies here, too.

JeffMakesGames

So the Moon does the deed and does the sacrifice killing. Interesting. Still makes me wonder how the 1st Moon actually died though.

The colors on this on this page are gorgeous, I especially love the final panel. The wolves in the background and the bull accepting his fate.

Dhaka Yeena

I’m betting the bison killed him

Grey

Lovely colors for such a tense scene. I wonder how this ritual got started. Perhaps the wolves began starving because of the super herd driving away all other prey?

Microgrampup

So the bull sort of goes willingly and conscious. I thought the drugs the mothers would give would sedate or euthanize them, but I guess they just give them advil. Also, we now know one of the uses of the spears they take from their fallen enemies. Their sacrificial knife.

Microgrampup

Are those tears or whale eyes that the bison has?

Gale Tazzin

It'd feel wrong if the bison performed the sacrifice instead of just offering one to the Moon

Gabe Bold

That las panel goes HARD

Pencil Pavlova

It feels cruel, in a way, for the mothers to give only one life. Bad enough to march to your death, but doing it *alone...*

Fluffy

Oh... so they DO use the tools.

Krzysztof K

Hap said it was something he ate, so I think they poisoned him.

genovianprince

Man, to die surrounded by the enemy as a sacrifice from your family, but none of them can stand by you and provide comfort as you're killed... damn

Briana Burch

This feels worse than hunting. It feels lonely and pointless and empty.

Microgrampup

That was the previous moon (Hap’s brother apparently), Jeff’s wondering about the first moon.

Gale Tazzin

or it might be worse to watch the guy in front of you be slaughtered and know it's your turn next

Pencil Pavlova

Depends on the individual, but if it's fast I still think there's comfort in not being alone!

A Mills

Something I’ve noticed since I got into this series is how badly I want to comfort all these characters, I understand the nature of their world, but I still find myself imagining some sort of reconciliation in an afterlife plane, I like imagining them surrounded by loved ones and briefly “getting” the point of it all before the cycle continues. Really enjoying this arc and can’t wait to see what happens next.

Microgrampup

The wolves aren’t the enemy of the herd. At least not yet.
