Next page will be April 13th.

Between five Monday's this month and a rough February, I need a little time to decompress/catch up on some stuff. I do have a mess of WIPs from these last few pages that I'll post next week, plus a write-up I did explaining some of my thinking for the Zenith for anyone interested.

One last feast before battle

Ooooo, looks like we get to see Swift meet Oren. And the Zenith will be entering the forest soon. Rask said she could be safe there. Safety for her and her family because the Zenith WILL kill them if found. I am just curious if Swift will speak directly to Oren. Should be interesting.

Grey

Really looking forward to reading your insight about the Zenith!

I really love the first panel on this page. A lot being told just in the looks on their faces. Wouldn't have imagined the bison killings to be this compassionate.

Sick transition Hap using the spear to off the sacrificial bison is significant It means they don't fear the spear itself. They just hate others make & have it Zenith wants monopoly of violence - a key concept in political theory for nation-states (what is a country) & government

Grey

Also! I think it’s interesting that despite their hatred of “sharp tools”, they’re willing to use them for this—presumably because the knife kills much cleaner and faster than teeth, and neither the wolves nor other bison want the offering to suffer more.

Grey

That’s a good point! I was only thinking of them using the spear as a kindness to the sacrificial guy, but them liking the tool but hating it’s not theirs is an excellent counter.

You really didn't disappoint when you said that there were some really work intensive pages coming up. The amount of effort you put into each page really shows. Your story telling and composition has always been top-notch, but this volume really feels like you've turned everything up to 11. I seriously believe the only reasons this comic isn't known universally world wide is because it's in the relatively niche market of furry graphic novels, and because of the necessary amount of time it takes one person to produce this amount of work. We're close to 400 pages, and the fact that you have done all of it yourself is nothing short of astounding. A little break is more than deserved. I dunno, had you sold your soul to the whims of that one publisher and made all the characters into humans with a full team of people pumping out pages, maybe you could be ruling the world of manga/action comics by now :P

Marcwolf

I think if the wolves could kill without pain - they would. Also unjustified actions of violent would unfriend them fromvthe herd.

If Oren can hide her ablnd ger family then the natural rack fortress will protect Oren anf his followers.

In the bottom panel.. On the other side of the lake, trees or folks standing.

I thought there would be pages where Rask talks to Oren about Swift wanting to meet up, but on the other hand we learned a lot about Zenith.

Kay

Which publisher? 😭 Making them human would negate from the story, given the preds need meat to survive.

treefiddy

It was mentioned in an old QnA post, I dont think Teagan mentioned which publisher though. Actually I just found the post, from April 30th 2021. Apparently it wasn't even about Orens Forge, it was about an older comic that Teagan worked on -- Nordguard.

Wolves cannot actually enter the Hollow though. The opening is too narrow. Like Rask told Red. Wolves would starve before they could ever dig them out... And mostly likely any wolf that TRIES would probably get stabbed in the face. Swift's unnamed pups could probably be allowed in, since they are small.

Karroo

A lot of trust involved in letting a bison press his head/horns against your chest. Even an involuntary struggle on the part of the bison could kill a wolf in that position. It doesn't surprise me the Zenith has developed a ritual where life is taken as humanely as possible, but has this ever gone poorly for a Moon?

When volume 3 is finished and goes to print. will there be any possibility of reprinting vol 1? its still possible to buy vol2, but 1 is out of stock

teagangavet

Reprinting a (softcover) run of Vol 1 is definitely the plan, but whether that's with Vol 3 or separately I'll have to see. I'll be honest, it's rough right now trying to plan anything business/printing related. Between a looming recession, being unable to ship outside the US and supply shortages, it's a little grim, as far as traditional crowdfunding... That said, I've been looking around at some US based print-on-demand options just to keep Vol 1 in print as a stop-gap. Quality control is the big hang-up there, and I'm waiting to hear back from some folks about their experiences with some of these places.

Krzysztof K

Have you ever thought about having your printing done in some European country?

Is the grass on Hap’s headdress meant to resemble bison pelt?
