Can Ramble not see the hole in Seral from a spear tooth? Also, Swift wouldn't cut his tail off. Also, LOOK, THE LEFT SIDE OF THE COMIC, IS THAT A SPEAR? HEMLOCK???????

Dhaka Yeena

Singer you little snake I hope you don’t look up

TheGreatSako

I see the spear in the tree...

Sivle Fredrickson

*corpse has a gaping hole in the back that goes all the way to the front* “Yeah your sister totally did this.”

Allyson

😱😱😱😱 ME TOO

Grey

Ohhh hemlock is using his body for bait. Smart! Interesting that Singer finds it distasteful that Swift will kill for her pups.

Julian Seguin

Swift didn’t do this, but as far as I’m concerned, she absolutely would.

Allyson

Well, now that the Zenith wolves are getting this close … I’m pretty worried about Red and them puppies. I’m sure they’ll be fiiiiiiiine [trying not to think about Teagan’s earlier note that Swift’s luck might have run out] Also, randomly, I finally bothered to look up poor Seral’s name to see what it means since we learned that wolf names are meant to mean something. “Seral” describes an intermediate stage of ecological succession—i.e. an “in-between” stage of development as a given patch of land advances from being nothing but bare earth towards becoming a forest, or some other stable state. That seems very poetic. Things are changing, are they not? Their world is moving into a new “stage” of development.

LD

I see the pointy end of a spear! I almost missed it! Very subtle

treefiddy

Not from this angle, Seral has also been laying there dead for 2 days so any hole like that could be explained by the birds or other carnivores (Keen also had a large hole in his chest that wasn't from Swift)

Krzysztof K

We'll see. Maybe Teagan wrote that her luck has run out, but I bet she'll survive, unlike other characters.

Aratare

Gamers never look up.

JeffMakesGames

Another thing. I want to believe Hemlock CAN understand wolves, and may have learned a thing or two from this overheard conversation. That she didn't kill a parent of the pups, and actually did save them from being murdered. I want to believe she has been keeping an eye on this wolf family that is so close to the Hollow, and that this one wolf talking about his sister, is her brother. What is unclear is just how close they are to Swift and her family right now, and what does Hemlock plan to do... EDIT: Hemlock DOES know what these wolves are saying. Language barrier post explained it. Wonder if any of those 4 will look up and see her.

Marcwolf

Hitting a nerve in the last pane....

Singer, you're very pretty, but you're about to lose some skin. (And he'll have it coming too!)

Microgrampup

Is Hap’s line foreshadowing for everyone’s theory that Singer wasn’t truly following orders when he tried to kill Swift? Did he just let a hint he didn’t want anyone to have about how he dealt with the situation slip?

Grey

I think Hap’s line might be in reference to her own brother!

Krzysztof K

Honestly, if something like that happened, it would be a complete contradiction of Hemlock's personality, which has been shown from the beginning of the comics as someone who wants to completely kill all predators and is full of anger. I don't understand why she would have to watch the wolf family with concern. Do you think an animal that has repeatedly tried to kill Rask, who is on their side, will suddenly change its mind and save the wolves? She doesn't believe predators can suddenly be friendly. Even if it did, Swift probably wouldn't appreciate it and would eat her because the author wrote that Swift doesn't care about prey at all. By the way, she knows the language of predators, as Teagan wrote in her post. So when we had the scene of battle between Yarrow and Rask in the first volume, she probably understood that it was his father because Rask said so about him, but she killed him anyway. Of course, she spared the puppies because they were children, and they probably reminded her of her own children. But again, such a scene can be justified plot-wise, let's say there was a scene where the lives of Swift and her family are in danger and Hemlock is there, then Hemlock could remember the scenes from when she lost her cubs and knows what the mother goes through, so she would want to spare Swift that and save them (or something else), and this would confirm my theory that Swift is magically lucky again and Hemlock and the rest will be eaten by her.

Microgrampup

True, but a lot of what the characters say can apply to multiple situations in this story.

Chasey

I mean, if Swift had seen/known what Seral was indeed thinking of doing, she would have done this. (minus cutting the tail off) Also, gross, dude. Does he have to say it with the sneer like that? "Not even to defend her precious pups?"

Gale Tazzin

maybe she embraced new technology

Gale Tazzin

you should read Teagan's comments on page 305, after Seral died she delved into the full symbolism of his name now that his arc was finished

Looking at the raven's eyes, I do wonder if they are as intelligent as the mammals... they just can't speak to each other. Clearly, the ravens know to help, and are obviously grateful to the wolves for feeding them with the leftovers of hunts... They're gonna see the missing tail and realize something is off, or maybe the puncture wound in the neck. This is not damage done by a wolf. EDIT: I just saw the spear in the tree... Hemlock, is that you?

Givemeyourmilk

I think he's just using it as any excuse to say "see? she totally would, she has motive". I doubt for a moment he's actually judging her in a sincere way

treefiddy

I think Teagan said a long time ago that only the mammals were sentient and had human levels of intelligence in this world. Ravens though are highly intelligent and social creatures in the real world. Not to get into the gritty details about how intelligence is actually measured or even defined, but it could be argued that by some metrics Ravens are just as intelligent as humans. A lot of the classic parameters and tests we use to define intelligence are also passed by a lot of Ravens and other corvid species. For instance, crows have shown to be extremely good at spacial reasoning and problem solving, even using tools to solve problems (which is another metric of intelligence). Going even further, they've even shown that they are capable of learning and passing complex information to other crows, such as how to use said tools and which humans are friendly or unfriendly. As an average I'd say humans are more intelligent, at least from the metric of our ability to gain and apply knowledge. While corvids have been shown to be good at those, they just haven't shown to be capable of gaining and applying the sheer quantity of knowledge that we are capable of. But with that said, the measurable intelligence of the most intelligent corvid is most certainly higher than the intelligence of a small but statistically significant portion of the human population.

Allyson

Oooo, thank you for letting me know! I’m off to go read that now …

Oh my god it’s you know who, I think
