Black people still worked on Plantations during this time because of multiple reasons, the main being they were “hired” to work the fields still.

Thing is Sammie not on the same level of sinning as the twins or even Delta slim. He just wants to play the blues & christians have demonized music that comes from Black people, which is not a coincidence. Like it goes back to slaves not even being able to sing negro spirituals on the plantation. Definitely rewatch the part when Delta slim was talking during the ‘I lied to you’ scene. And like Sammie attracting Remick (the OG vampire) was also symbolism of white people stealing Black culture and demonizing it, which is also mentioned by Delta slim throughout the movie. And I think this movie is also supposed to show that humans are infallible and we are all sinners. I definitely recommend a rewatch tho, this movie is just something you gotta watch multiple times. It’s so damn good. It’s definitely my favorite movie now. I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve watched it atp 😆 Mind you, I used to be the biggest MBJ hater 🤣 now I’ll ride at dawn for him. Ryan coogler did his biggest one with this movie and the entire cast was absolutely exceptional.

Keyyy

Sammie had a power that the devil wanted. Sammie has the power to bring people together, life and death, through music. Having the power to bring people together through music is wonderful and should be shared. He doesn’t have to stop playing, he just has to be careful on who he invites in.

They still worked the fields after the "end of slavery," because once they were no longer slaves, they needed to make money for food, clothes, etc. So they were hired as cheap labor and given "slave wages," basically enough to survive but not anything to better themselves, and in some cases they were basically tricked into massive debt turning them into indentured servants, which is why slavery didn't really end even though the government passed the 13th amendment.

Athasin

I think the movie was trying to hint that, the reason Cornbread went so far to pee is because even though he's a big dude, he's not a "big" dude, and he knew if he did his busy close and someone saw, he wouldn't have heard the end of it especially not from Delta Slim who was already making fun of him.

Kiyah

Yayyy

Miguel

The end always makes me tear up when stack is talking abt last time seeing his brother and feeling the sun

J.T

me before you is a good romance-drama movie.

J.T

I'm just like Sophie scary movies are not my favorite genre, let's get some comedy back into the mix. like pitch perfect, neighbors or good boys.

booger

nooo put it back on the bottom

Teytey

Ahh I upgraded just for this!!!!!!! also quick note before I start watching, notice that if you pay attention to the style of suits, you can know which twin worked for the Irish and which one worked for the Italians.

Teytey

I agree with Soph,, alot of Christians thought the movie was offensive to them because Sammie still lived out his life, but we forget he was literally traumatized to the point of paralysis every week, so is that really a happy ending?

Teytey

The movie in general is an ode to cultural appreciation. The vampire is trapped here and cannot re-connect with his people, so he tries to create a community/identity by leeching onto others' culture. Similar to how white people(especially in the diaspora and more specific, white americans) have no culture of their own, and essentially their way of life is majorly centred on others' culture e.g food and all. Notice how the only times the vampires made it inside was because someone not in the culture had to do with it? An ode to how culturally black people are always willing to share their spaces but when stuff hits the fan, everybody is on their own, as the Chinese lady said in the movie.

Teytey

Also little easter eggs in the movie: 1. The snake symbolized that they were already marked by death. 2. In Chinese culture (also african, I'm African lol) it is a bad omen to write down names in red. They only had red paint and used it to label the sign of the juke. 3. Annie practises hoodoo, to be differentiated from voodoo. Colonization demonized African religion and deemed it evil. The movie shows that this is not true, annie actively avoids evil even refusing to take Smoke's money because it comes with blood. That was great to add in because we as humans need to learn that just because people don't believe in the same religion we do, it doesn't mean they are evil, as long as they do not practise what they practise with the intention of harming others. 4. Remmick is Irish, European history will show you that the Irish were colonized by the English long before they started colonizing the rest of the world. That is why he was so offended when they called him "Klan" lol. That is what that scene with the Lord's prayer was all about. But also this applies to real life because he wants us to remember he was oppressed too, but he is also an oppressor. I could go on and on about this movie lolll

roudie

Did you guys notice how when all the vampires came in to the barn the screen went full, but the rest of thr movie it is not full.

roudie

The soundtrack is so good

daī

yess Sophie get Mair to watch twilight

Noah

Love the reaction ♥️ I have a suggestion, could you react to the parent trap sometime (1998) please:)

Mya ♡

LET ME BREAK IT DOWN (I am not religious anymore by any means, but I could talk about Sinners for hours): By definition of the Bible, every living and breathing human is a sinner (meaning me, you, and everyone else). The vampires did not merely come because they inherently sinned, they came because of the spiritual power of Sammie's music. Before Sammie even began playing music, he was already a sinner (again, everyone is). The vampires were not punishing him for sinning, they were stripping him of his culture. Sammie never really connected to religion as deeply as he connected to music, because while religion was forced upon him, music wasn't. The term 'Sinner' is used because of the religious undertones of the movie (the main one being how both the Irish and black slaves were indoctrinated, oppressed, and colonized with Christianity by white people/Europeans). That is also why Remmick knew the prayer Sammie recited, and why he told Sammie about how those words were forced upon them. White colonizers used Christianity to label Indigenous, Black, and Irish cultures as "sinful" to justify taking them away (and most times, keeping them for themselves). Remmick took this hurt and continued to indoctrinate, colonize, and oppress the black people living in the Jim Crow South (by turning them into vampires), spreading the indoctrination (aka, hurt people hurt people). Remmick wanted a family (The song they were singing: "I picked poor Robin clean, and I'll be satisfied having a family") and wanted to find belonging. The song was born from black suffering, and in singing it at the door, they were already appropriating black culture for their own gain. He wanted to "pick them clean" of their souls and energy. Remmick lost his culture and community and tried to solve that by consuming other people's cultures and identities. Remmick wanted Sammie to reconnect with his lost ancestors because music can bridge the gap between past, present, and future.

Yess let is shine is a great movie with great songd

When Harry Met Sally is a must-watch rom com with Meg Ryan (1989) - so so good. Some really iconic scenes. That movie and "The Princess Bride" were both directed by Rob Reiner (who passed tragically recently). The Princess Bride is goofy humor, action and romance - just a really fun watch if you haven't seen it. Kinda another must-watch at some point

Katie Davis

"Pick Poor Robin Clean" is an old American folk-blues song - it's supposed to be about being "picked clean" due to gambling debts. "Rocky Road to Dublin" and "Will You Go Lassie, Go?" (also known as "Wild Mountain Thyme") are famous Irish songs. Rennick was from Ireland but from thousands of years ago - he mentions they took his father's land and forced a religion upon them (likely referring to British colonizers). the name "Pearline" is important - actually the name of an old Son House song (famous Mississippi Delta blues musician). The old man at the very end is Buddy Guy - famous blues musician. I've been lucky enough to see him perform live a few times

I think you guys have to figure out how to still have the video with sound while you’re talking. Because right now it’s one or the other
