As one door closes, another opens. Our European adventure might be over for this season, so all attention and focus shifts to claiming a triple crown.

Next up is a trip to the City of Discovery where a Dundee side fresh off victory in midweek and with top 6 aspirations lie in wait.

For those that like time stamps - 17:30 Dundee preview

In an era where there are so many activities for families to spend time together plus how hard it is for families financially I don't think Scottish football are in any position to turn people away it's hating itself to death.

Gregg McKee

Very harsh on Fabio Silva. He was excellent in the first leg and at Hibs. He wasn’t great the other night but he’s been good for us over all - particularly since he moved to play off the left

Iain Campbell

Definitely think that's his strongest position, just thought he tried too hard on Thursday night

William Mcdonald

Totally agree on the subs Iain. Dio was burst after 50 mins. He gave the ball away twice and just had nothing in the tank to chase it back, once from a short corner. It's not a criticism of Dio, he was just done in and should have been off earlier. I reckon he's taken Lawrence off earlier with an eye on Dundee

William Mcdonald

Ridvan and Silva didn't click on Thursday, they did very well the games prior. Was just unfortunate. Don't think the criticism isn't merited though.

Bob MacCallum

Re clubs reducing Old Firm away fans, that should take away their objections to a larger top division ( say, 18 teams, playing each other TWICE) as they previously bemoaned losing revenue from 2 extra Old Firm visits. A bigger league, with the away allocations they're contemplating, would mean miniscule drop in income. Whereas crowds might improve generally if the jeopardy is taken away from half the league teams' fear of relegation thus producing more attacking, entertaining football, leading to bigger attendances and income. Simples!

Bob MacCallum

Sorry to dig you up, Stevie, on your geography but Newcastle has 4 times the population of Aberdeen. And at over 800,000, more than Glasgow.

Gregg

Lawrence was the same mate he gave the ball away four times on the spin - think they were all just gassed. Hopefully a rest will do them all good - one more push

Steven, speaking on behalf of all Seagulls fans on this network. There are many people in Scotland who have a genuine interest in English football. While I may not have any particular allegiance to a team, I enjoy watching the English game. Saying Scottish people don't care about English football is simply inaccurate. Many of us grew up watching English matches. Opting for a Scottish game over an English one would certainly place you in the minority. Personally, I only watch Scottish football when Rangers are playing.

Iain Campbell

The key issue is making the Scottish game more attractive for the viewer. The TV deal is a disgrace and Sky have us over a barrel. The Edinburgh Derby not being televised is absolute proof that Sky don't care about the SPFL at all

Paul

The league's quality is lacking, largely due to the repetitive nature of teams facing each other too frequently. A significant overhaul is necessary. From Sky's perspective, the focus is understandably on matches involving the Old Firm teams, as they draw the highest viewership. While it may seem harsh, it reflects the reality of the situation. Ultimately, the responsibility lies with the SPFL for agreeing to the terms of the deal. I might not watch it, Rangers aside but you boys do a fantastic job discussing it and on the SPFL show.

Hoggy

Newcastle Upon Tyne has a 2021 census population of 298k. The wider and greater area might be 800k (would include Sunderland with 168k).

David Kiltie

Bob, Iain, I agree. If clubs like Hibs can reduce our (and that lot’s allocation) then logically they can make do with fewer visits from us, so why not a bigger top league?

Ryan Stewart

Extremely harsh. The boy ran his socks off and was absolutely burst the last 20 minutes or so. He’s went from not playing for 6 months to having to play every 3 days because we have no other options due to injuries. Think he’s been great so far

David Kiltie

Great pod, guys. Apropos international call ups, you mention the paucity of caps for Ian Ferguson and David Robertson, plus McCoist’s and McCall’s omission from the 1998 World Cup squad. Another brickbat at the ridiculous claim that we are the establishment club and the SFA are puppets on Rangers’ string.

Scott Watson

The overall point surely stands regardless. Aberdeen's average crowd is, at best, a third of Newcastle and it certainly isn't only a third of the size, so the much peddled line that Scotland has the best per capita attendance in Europe is, at best, a more complicated story that is clearly massively weighted by the Old Firm

Scott Watson

Excellent pod gentlemen, thank you very much Cracking debut James

Gregg

I don’t watch English football anymore - I find most of the big games now just don’t grip me for some reason. Perhaps it’s the overhype they get from sky - on the rare occasion I do watch it invariably don’t watch it all. Scottish football is generally a poor product - the stadiums are half empty and the way the game is refereed doesn’t help entertaining football - similarly the stadiums are often half empty. None of which is down to sky or a to deal. Add to that the coverage is pantomine stuff - there’s no analysis and invariably we get replays of incidents and ex pros who don’t know the rules give us their ‘expert views’. Generally it’s a massive turn off for me

Ryan Stewart

Totally agree. I watch pretty much every televised EPL game. I’d watch Sheff Utd v Luton ahead of any SPL game not involving Rangers with the exception of maybe the Edinburgh derby.

Hendi

Raskin, Cantwell and Roofe were "never going to change things" but the manager should have brought them on sooner? You're also potentially bringing players on who will have to play extra time and penalties, so always going to be later than normal if they're not fully fit.

Scott Watson

I think the extra time point is crucial. Clement has spoken extensively and repeatedly about injury management and I think there's no chance he would gamble on bringing players on with the hope of finishing in the 90

JOHNNY

With due respect your opinion on Scotland and supporting and giving other clubs in the spl money to watch the game is massively flawed and here’s why. Scotland first, look at the team we had from 90-98 should have had 5 names with more caps goram, brown, McLaren, Ferguson, durant and Robertson. That cunt brown should have made the Scottish rangers players the basis of squads but had a sheer reluctance to do so he had such a wet dream for Leighton billy mcinlay and hendry who was was always making running back to his own goal making a last ditch tackle because he was most often got done or was out of position (the overlord made that about hendry), don’t get me started on tosh mcindly. So the notion of if we had good enough players they’d be picked is inaccurate. Now on to the spl debate about peace love and harmony let’s all be friends, why should we do anything to help them by giving them money, have you let slide what they tried to do to us, why you and Ian consider helping others financially after the joy that was taken in the dark years is beyond me . So as a season ticket holder of many years rangers will be the only one benefiting financially within the main leagues, all the league teams can do one to put it politely. Steven have you not contradicted abit yourself by saying you’d rather watch a Ross county game than Liverpool vs Man United but then say you’ve tried getting Newcastle home tickets for a game, isn’t that worse than if your going down to watch it? Apart those points I’ve highlighted great show as always
