With no game this  weekend, Simon invites Cammy and Grant on to the pod this week to assess the Rangers squad and those players out of contract in the summer.

They discuss the pros and cons of offering new deals, as well as discussing the player trading model.

Great show lads and agree on the out of contract players. Question for yous - how much would you pay for Sima/Cortes and would you want to keep both/only 1 of them? If we had an option for another year of Silva would you take it? Think we need more of a proper number 9 goal scorer. Ur he’s done well recently off the left also

Grant Sneddon

Would love to keep all three David ideally, Cortes we have the option to buy but not sure what the fees involved are. Sima and Silva realistically would be another loan move and that would allow us to concentrate on getting a number 9 to compete alongside Danilo

James Milliken

I'd let Lundstram go and bring in Barron. Sign Watson from Kilmarnock bringing him in just now and Miller from Motherwell but loan him back to Motherwell for next season. Clement will also have targets like Diomande and Cortez he'll want to bring in Let's get the age of the midfield into the lower 20s and lots of energy in there

Iain Campbell

Only Lundstram for a new contract. Its time to move on from the rest. And I'm not totally sold on Lundstram either. Has to cut out the brain farts and blind passes

Kyle Fitzpatrick

I'm not sure Koppen and Clement care about a Scottish quota, and we need clarity on whether UEFA will change the rules now a court ruled it as illegal. As much as I'd like Watson or Barron I think Koppen has more players like Dio or Cortes in his little black book to capitalize on. In defence, I think people forget that Souttar is playing on his wrong side, a few mistakes I put down to him not being as strong on his left. I'm open to having him focus on playing RCB and compete with Goldson, and bring in a proper left footed LCB and a young LB in the same mould as Bassey, who can fill in LCB if we need the cover. Then we can let Leon King go on loan for a season.

Simon H&H

I think there’s a chance of Sima. Only a year left at Brighton. Very happy here. Even if he were to extend at Brighton, I think we’d still have a shot of a loan again. Win title and I think there’s a strong chance he signs permanent

Latimer

Jack should never have been given the current extension without retiring from international football.

Fantasy stuff for me on Lundstram. He is not going to accept a significant wage cut and we absolutely cannot spend 4.5m on a 3 year contract on him. Madness. On a more general point, you have to redo this pod but with a budget, otherwise you are just making a wishlist.

Scott Dickson

I think all the players are gone who’s deal ends barring Lundstram. Biggest challenge for summer is can we shift on some deadwood to raise some funds, as Clement has already said we’ve dipped into summers budget to fund January. If we can get: £3million for Dessers £2million for Lammers £500k for Scott Wright £2million for Davies £3million for Raskin £2million for Matondo That would give us the guts of £12-13million, plus a fair bit more off the wage bill (guessing £120-130k p/w). That’s the biggest challenge in summer. Lose those 6 players in addition to the other 5 out of the door, and you haven’t lose any quality from the first 11 (once Danilo returns). But could give us the chance to get some good young Scottish talent in such as Barron, Miller, plus a squad refresh and some depth that can actually contribute.

Gregg

Probably be looking to move Hagi on too - personally would be looking to keep Raskin

Scott Dickson

Forgot all about Ianis. Yes agreed, Raskins more useful to us long term. I think Hagi could work under Clement, but we need to sell him to someone gullible like Galatasaray whilst he still has a value on paper

Simon H&H

That may come at seasons end once we know exactly what ballpark we are shopping in. Lundstram isn’t worth more than 2 years. If he doesn’t accept, fine, move him on. We scout better

chris smith

Agreed, and on that basis alone he is more likely than not NOT to be here next season

Russ

It would blow my mind if Lundstram got a bigger basic on 3+ years after what has been, let's be honest about it, an inconsistent Rangers career barring the last 6 months (which happens to coincide with his deal running out). 2 years on a heavily incentivised deal (g/a, trophies, apps, UCL qualification etc) and I'd keep him - if he wants a higher basic then I'm sorry but don't entertain it. I wouldn't blame him for wanting his last big contract but the Goldson renewal is the prime example of how NOT to do these negotiations. Great pod lads!

Gregg

Player would be crazy to accept an offer like that to be honest

Spoon

Lundstrum indicative of a broken model we have employed. Bring in a half decent player, get 6 good months and 6 poor months out them per season, over hype them and create a narrative that there aren’t better out there if we had a better scouting / recruitment team. Lundstrum hasn’t been half as good as is made out, he’s played ok in an unspectacular midfield for about 4 months as the rest take turns being injured out of form or out of position. In all seriousness Sterling has been better for me than him. Raskin was last years Lundstrum, did ok got overhyped and this year fell off a cliff. We need to stop pretending there aren’t guys as good as we have out there at better parts of their career arc, at better value and with perhaps more key skills we need than the guys we keep because they have had flashes of form. There’s not one player including the keeper we shouldn’t be able to move on and get someone about the same level. It’s now also become blasphemy to suggest awe can upgrade a guy like Lundstrum who has on average….been average. He’s not crap and not suggesting that but he’s not the midfield messiah it’s made out. We heard this type of stuff around Kent and Morelos whose subsequent moves show you their real levels.

Russ

Of course mate, and the club would be crazy to dish out 3+ years on improved terms for a 30 year old. I've heard 0 about prem or championship teams trying to tie Lundstram down on a bosman and that says a lot. We were bent over a barrel with the Tav and Goldson deals, we can't do it again for Lundstram.

Craig Fryatt

Superb show, partnering with Simon and Cammy really brought the best out of Grant. Regarding Lundstrum, his best form as came when he hasn’t been either coached or managed by Michael ‘the brains behind 55’ Beale. I would be happy to see him here for another 2 years on the right wage.

Graeme Homer

Yet again Wilson takes all the blame, while he has some of it, Gerrard and King have to shoulder some of it too. Their big bollocks not selling anyone attitude hampered Wilson at times. We’ve no understudy for Tav? Sterling is a RB, we’ve an amazing talent in Jack Wylie! McKinnon has played a number of games there as well. Plenty of options and PC is clever enough to use them. Lucky and sentimental aren’t why Jack got a new deal. Being statistically the best player was why, we won more games with him in the team than without and his teammates stats improved when he was there. I’m not saying he should get one now but to suggest he didn’t have worth to offer one is insulting. Regarding his injuries yet again Gerrard avoids blame, he ran Jack into the ground knowing he bleed blue and would do it for the badge. The centre halfs we need one in the mould of Bassey and have them partner Souttar or Goldson long term and get rid of Davies, Balogun and if possible Goldson. Lundstram I reckon will get a new deal but I personally would rather we didn’t and used the money elsewhere and use Raskin, Rice Diomande and try and get Watson or Miller in. Barron seems to be away to Southampton to talk there and Aberdeen.

Alan Weir

Is a “pay as you play” contract actually a thing or a cliched myth? Who have Rangers signed in living memory on one of these deals?

Andrew Finlayson

Jack getting the year extension under Beale was baffling for me, he was always going to get injured again. He had a great 4/5 months on the road to Seville but even in the league winning side he hardly started any games, it was Davis & Kamara who carried that midfield. We’ve been far too sentimental with the likes of Mcgregor & Jack.

Heart and Hand

They are a myth. They don't exist and haven't, if they ever did, for decades. No footballer signs a contract based on not getting paid if not selected.

Louch

Lundstram is in same position as when we signed him, if he was at Sheffield utd now and contract ending he’d be looking at same wages he will ask for a renewal. Be it 20k or 30k a week, that’s 500k to know what we are getting and robustness to play as often as we do. Start of the show talking about lacking a player trading model and starting again doesn’t really stand up when we made about £15m of sales last summer and should be able to shift about 10m of squad players this summer in hagi, Lammers, Dessers, Raskin. Etc. player trading model isn’t all 15m one player sales, it’s regurgitation of what you are buying and selling

Ryan Brown

Lundstram new deal is an absolute no brainer, however the obsession with his “wages” from fans baffles me. He is having arguably the best season of his career at us and could drive us to a treble, yet we are expecting him to take a wage cut? Would you accept a wage cut after excelling in your role and exceeding expectations (if we win the treble). 1 year deal with an option on the same wages is fair imo.

Alan Keegan

Really enjoyed that guys.
