Martyn and David both recently enjoyed David Mitchell's 'Unruly', a look at the Kings and Queens of England up to the 17th century. They discuss the book, what it says about monarchy and why some stories are eternal.

I shall settle down later with a couple of glasses and enjoy this. It’s good to have the History boys back

Stuart McDonald

Reading this book at the moment. Really funny.

Alan Cumming

Thought for a second there that Mitchell was on this pod 😂 Listened to the audiobook of this a few months ago. Brilliant stuff

Scott Mackay

Was surprised to hear Martyn get a wee shout out on the rest is history the other day

Question lads, is the UK a country? The reason I ask, isn’t there 4 countries within the UK already? That’s always confused me. Aren’t we more like the UAE? A union of countries.

Stuart brown

I genuinely love the history shows you guys do,was listening to your old episode featuring Guy Walter’s last week for about the 3rd time since it was released(it’s brilliant if he is a bit odd) The Rest is history are also going through a brilliant run of great topics just now. Love shows like this!!!

Heart and Hand

Legally one country but historically four distinct countries of course (though interestingly Wales has legally been considered part of England since 12th century in a way Scotland and Ireland/Northern Ireland never was. They were fully conquered.)

John Lamont

Glad this is back, hopefully amore regular feature

Graham McCallum

Excellent show as usual guys. Unfortunately it was that good that Martyn’s book has now been pushed down my audible wish list. It’s ok though as I have read my signed copy already 😊

Gregg

Saving this one for holidays so won’t listen for now - looking forward to reading it

Johnny Paterson

No King Arthur !!!!! My jaw has just hit he floor

Gary Brown

Thoroughly enjoyed that, thanks Martyn & David. Never had any real interest in history, other than a few subjects I was intrigued by, until a couple of years ago. Found The Rest is History podcast (oddly enough due to a re-tweet by Martyn!) and since then I've been hooked. Really enjoy learning about all manner of subjects I'd never have voluntarily looked into. As you say its the way the story is told which engages the interest and promotes the understanding and learning. Thanks for doing that so well with this pod. I'm certainly keen to give the book a try after your show. Must check out your History Boys back catalogue too. Really enjoyed David & Shane's Nixon series and Martyn's epic Dominant. Thanks again lads, great work.

David Baillie

Great to have the History Boys back and what a tune. The book is on order.

Andy Sladen

Great pod guys really enjoyed it as always. Laughed out loud when you mentioned Martyn in the middle of all those famous people. Fantastic and also he deserves to be!!

Alan Shaw

I watched the hollow crown on I player recently. Fantastic.

Andrew Lees

Laughing out loud as Bismarck gets the lads together for a league title charge😃

Pedro

Loved this. As a point of note Game of Thrones akak A Song of Ice & Fire books based a lot of material on the war of the roses. Most notably the Lannisters and the Starks ala the Lancasters and Yorks

Pedro

Think they were trying to do something symbolic to hint at the rise of democracy in rome, but rushed it through and what we ended up with was a half arsed mess of an anticlimax

Iain Campbell

Brilliant pod lads. Really enjoyed it

David Bold

Could this be the foundation of the first H&H book club? I trust David will speak to the Club to organise a dedicated reading section at Ibrox.

Graeme Macdonald

Really enjoyed listening to the pod on holiday especially after just finishing Act of Oblivion by Robert Harris. Would recommend.

Bob MacCallum

Thanks, guys. Great show. So good I've joined Kindle audibles and downloaded Unruly. Laughing out loud a lot. Great stuff. Thanks for alerting me to it.
