Well said, Rangers.

Statement

RANGERS has written to the SPFL outlining its position following today’s further postponement of the Dundee Scottish Premiership fixture.

The negligence and unprofessionalism demonstrated by Dundee Football Club, where they have repeatedly breached SPFL rules, continues to have a damaging effect on the top professional league in the country.

In a week where record TV viewing figures were recorded for a match in the same competition, and this evening’s game due to be televised again by Sky Sports, this episode is deeply embarrassing and has also been eminently avoidable.

Rangers expects the SPFL to take proportionate and decisive action in accordance with its rules, and the club will continue to make representations to them in the strongest possible manner.

The club has been repeatedly putting forward solutions to the SPFL, which have not been taken up. It has again proposed a solution to the preparation and execution of this rescheduled fixture and is awaiting a response from the SPFL. As things stand, the rescheduled match will be on Wednesday, April 17 at 8pm. The club considers that this matter has been handled incorrectly throughout by both Dundee and the SPFL.

At this time, we sympathise fully once again with our supporters, approximately 4000 of whom were looking forward to attending tonight’s game. Having already been left hugely inconvenienced and out of pocket by the first postponement last month, it is entirely unacceptable and disrespectful on the part of Dundee FC to have allowed this situation to have developed again.

David Findlay

I went down this morning and took some pictures with the drone and the pitch looked more like a play park at that point. It’s a disgrace honestly

Luke

What solutions did Rangers propose?

John Smith

Inject this in to my veins. Finally the board show a pair of balls

Jess Cruikshank

Pathetic and inexcusable. Surely forfeit must be on the table at this point.

Rona Bluebell

The standards in the SPL are so low. A joke where no one is laughing

Steffen McAndrew

Great question. It would be fascinating to know the options Rangers have suggested. Surely switching to Tannadice?!

Barry Drysdale

Good to see this but will ultimately count for nothing. 5 postponements is farcical and they should be hammered

Duncan Hegan

Dundee reporting this statement to Police Scotland as a hate incident

Gregg

Game after other clubs have played their last games before the split - will someone think of the sporting integrity of it all…

James Mathieson

This is a shambles. Once I get but twice?? Should be severely punished

Gary Anderson

It’s Dundee home game surely they should be the ones with solutions? Should be played at ibrox if they can’t provide a pitch.

Luke

How did the pitch pass earlier? Then to fail later . Even with the covers on it still failed ? Could they not just cover the whole pitch ? No idea how it works but I'm surprised it was given the go ahead only a few hours ago ?

Luke

Well you'd think so in this case. The statement says rangers proposed some solutions so I'm curious to know which ones rangers favoured in order to get the game going.

Stillsaw

Disney couldn’t make this league look more mickey mouse if they tried

Steven Miller

Well said Rangers I had to laugh at the SPFL statement with regards contingency plans... Contingency plans deliver a solution to an emerging and expected issue...therefore the SPFL didn't have a CP otherwise the game would be getting played tonight! Amateur hour BTW

BluenoseFive

2 to one on the same happens this time next week

Stephen Strong

Another statement that will be ignored and forgotten about by the weekend. 3 games in 7 days for us. Utter shambles

Alan Cowan

SPFL Couldn't run a one ticket raffle

Alan Hutchison

Celtic played Gretna at Livingston in the SPL due to condition of their pitch.

Andrew Hind

So every Wednesday untill the pitch is playable then! Absolutely disgusting where are the spfl in all this sitting with their fingers in their ears and eyes shut as usual

Paul

They should have demanded Dundee compensate Rangers fans who travelled

Martin Boyd

Should be but it’s very unlikely as there is no real leadership in the SPFL. If it impacted a certain other club there would be calls for the points to be awarded to them by the press.

Elaine Campbell

Can anyone tell me why on earth Tannadice was not put on stand by on Saturday to be the contingency for tonight? It's on the same street, there can surely be zero logistical issues to consider? Yet again fans are an afterthought. And yet again our team has travelled the previous day for a match which everyone knew probably wasn't going to happen. Now, we are the only semi finalists with a match midweek. It's an utter utter shambles! 🤬🤬

Doogz

In any other league in the world a team would be heavily sanctioned for 5 postponements, then you remember it’s Doncaster and Shifty calling the shots here, nothing will happen to these hapless bastards.

Paul

Why would Dundee utd agree to let their rivals play at their stadium? Would you let Celtic play at Ibrox?

stephen

Our league is a joke and those running it couldn't give a fuck about that

Elaine Campbell

@paul - It's not a similar comparison because Hampden would be either of the Glasgow two's contingency

Steffen McAndrew

Does SPFL have rules for clubs who cannot offer up a playable pitch?

Colin Carstairs

Glad to see us going after Dundee & the spfl board both need to be held to account & it’s embarrassing that a professional team have had 4/5 games called off due to bad management. But let’s be honest we are pissin in the wind here & hee-haw will be done Barr the bare minimum.

Pondo Sinatra

I’ve no doubt the SPFL will opt for whatever route inconveniences Rangers the most. Fuck ‘em! 🇬🇧

Paul

Would Dundee utd not have a say on it? You think they would agree? Then you have match planning, health and safety, staff costs. That simply can't be done as a contingency. You need detailed planning.

Graham McCallum

The SPFL board are unable to follow their own rules because they are inept and scared and that’s why they produce refs that are inept and scared. This unfortunately is just a fact that we as Rangers fans have to accept

8luenose1872

It looked just as bad before their game with Motherwell and tbf it's looked like that for ages.

Brian Rae

The contingency plan is to play at the same venue next week with a pitch that will not improve unless it's replaced and rain is forecast for most days this coming week. I feel like we're in some sort of Twilight Zone where their fans are gloating about it being called off despite them being in a fight for 6th place. I genuinely detest the rest of Scottish football.

Elaine Campbell

Yes Dundee utd would need to be involved. By the way - these are genuine questions from a position of "I don't know the answer to it" so I'm grateful for your insider knowledge. Matches have been played at different stadiums in the past. Gretna at livvy, them at hampden. But they were longer term "contingencies" So next question then is - What's the difference between the logistics of it being played at the Excelsior then? Why is that considered a potential contingency option but Tannadice isn't?

WILLIAM JACK

It is astonishing how most SPFL fans have been sold hating the league to death and pure getting it up Rangers as some kind of worthwhile pursuit/product in lieu of, oh I don't know, lets say attractive football and success. And some people wonder why our other clubs get their arses handed to them in Europe every year. It's a mystery right enough.

Craig

Both Dundee Football Club and the league body completely inept. This situation was high risk of unfolding the way it has. The contingency plan is also very high risk. The league body should be stepping in to take decisive action and putting a proper contingency plan in place now. We know they won't do anything though.

David Kiltie

As a club we are often accused of having a self-obsessed “all about the Rangers”. This fixture affects the whole league. With 3 teams in contention for the final top 6 place the SPFL can’t set the post-split programme til the game is played.

Robert White

Whilst missing out on watching the game...I'm delighted. I'd prioritise the league over cup and that OF game will have knackered our best. Lets thump County then Dundee. Not worried about Hampden.

Paul

Because Dundee Utd clearly don't want Dundee playing at their stadium. And why should they? They are also no fans of Rangers. The difference being one is willing to host and the other clearly isn't

Craig

Sky must be losing a lot of money for all the different technical staff involved in a live broadcast - these folk are freelancers mainly and will have been paid twice now (which will include possible accommodation and rig day yesterday and derig tomorrow). Having people employed by Dundee and Celtic also brings out the cynical side of me. We should be sending part of ground staff to work on the pitch if they aren’t going to face any sanctions. One team a European force and another that loses emails and doesn’t have a proper pitch. There’s plenty of grounds over there that could facilitate our fans and whatever shitey numbers they have.

Gordon Mitchell

Sky will have penalties in these contracts as they are not stupid. This will be costing the league revenue.
