Ross County 3-2 Rangers Postmatch Reaction 14 Apr 2024

Rangers are well beaten by Ross County after a shambolic away performance.

Comments

Jonathon Wales

I don’t know how you do these videos David. Credit to you. Been here so many times with these bottlers. Same old story.

Fraser Martin

Catastrophe, Ross County the better team, in every department. Manager to players to ball boys.

Jim Milne

The training on set pieces for defence and attack is bewildering to me. Every corner Goldson lines up a 3 man train and everytime we do nothing. Almost every goal we've lost has been a counter attack. Defence plays too high up and lacks the pace to get back. Butland must be ragin' in that dressing room.

Garry kirkwood

Agree with all of that David. Personally would shakehands with Lunny aswell. Thought he was an absolute passenger again today

Alan Weir

I’m not claiming mystical powers, but it feels like you can tell within the first ten minutes what this Rangers team will serve up on any given week. Right from minute one today County looked hungrier and, unbelievably, a more organised and skilful set of players. Clearly not all his fault today, but Cyriel Dessers is, and has been, for Rangers an abomination of a signing.

Ally Mair

We’ve just given that shower from across the city a title party at their own midden in a couple of weeks because can anyone tell me seriously that we will go there and win

David Findlay

Lunny was an absolute man down today. Goldson needs to be dropped and Tav needs to defend. The mentality is absolutely terrible in this team

Scott Thomson

My therapy right there, thanks for fronting up.

Colin

Absolutely scunnerd today big fella , that will be Butlands last game as we will need to get money in to compensate for money lost, and please I ken he is a good guy but feck me Dessers who could win the league with him up top ,

Colin

And corners don't get me started 🤮🤮🤮🤮

Robert White

No excuses. We played dreadfully as we have been largely since February. How many managers will our captain and centre half get sacked? Clement needs to box clever in the summer .

Ross Monro

Honestly don't know why we bother getting our hopes up with these bottle merchants. Tav and goldson has been the constant the last 6 years. Loads of managers and players have came and gone. Their weak mentality must seap through the team.

Graham Ross

I'm beyond angry anymore with this team of serial losers. RC could have scored 5 against us today. Our defence is not good enough to keep us in games, ans that's why we badly needed a striker in the January window. The chances we have missed have been criminal, and we needed a striker to put us 2 ahead to kill teams off or to bury an equaliser. There is not a chance that we are winning our remaining matches, and if we play like that at Parkhead, then it could be embarrassing. We should have been down by 4 goals before HT last week.

Stuart K

It's April 2024 and we're still starting a crucial away fixture in a title race with Tav, Goldson and Barisic in the back 4. We get what we deserve. These players are bottle merchants. Lundstram never got out a gentle jog all afternoon, you don't win leagues with guys like that who only turn up when THEY want to.

Charles McIntyre

There’s a word used to describe our opponents at times favoured often by our very own Colin on here. It’s Jobbers. Personally I believe all our opponents deserve a little more respect than that as on their day they can and do take points of us practically every Season. Our players looked like they took the field today thinking Ross County were indeed jobbers that we didn’t require to at least match work rate and endeavour before hopefully our better players took control of the game. Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.

John Breen

We have played really badly this season and scraped the win. This was always going to happen if the attitude didn’t change. The first half of the OF didn’t give them a shake up and this is what we get

David Innes

Technically it’s still in our hands. Does anyone actually think there’s a single member of the squad who genuinely believes we can do it ?

Joanne

Totally agree David. Manager needs to sign winners in the summer, or at least players that hate to lose. I’m not sure we have enough of that in our team. Until we change that, the movie always has the same ending. To quote our captain, very disappointing.

Jamie Gilchrist

We will never be able to shake the sense of impending doom until the players who have been at the core of that, are gone. And we know who they are. We’ve gotten uncomfortable over the last few years in letting players go….we’ve developed a comfort blanket with some of them. Its time to cut the cord or we’l never move on.

Bixby Snyder

I can’t remember the last time we got beat when we didn’t deserve to. I don’t think there’s a game this season where we’ve left the stadium and been raging that the other team were just lucky bastards and the team couldn’t have done much more.

Rona Bluebell

Hello darkness my old friend. Worried about the next few games, worried about my heart, worried David is turning into Obi Wan Kenobi.

Latimer

Tavernier, Goldson and Lundstram are as slow mentally as they are physically. Bye 👋

Michael

Shocking. Lundstram can go, Goldson terrible. Tav was also shit, but then he has saved us so many times. More Scots in the squad please

Ian McManus

It’s still in our hands… just. Clement has managed to work wonders with this group who are as deficient of quality as they were when Mr Beale was in charge. The preparation shambles that was Dens Park coupled with Ross County having a one in a hundred performance and us being very poor has created a perfect pish storm today. If the players are looking leggy at this stage of the season then that’s absolutely consistent with what the manager said about the fitness levels of the squad he inherited. Hopefully we can go again. Ordinarily I wouldn’t think we could but I don’t believe our manager will stand for anything less than everything from this point.

Gary Shaw

Not throwing the towel in just yet but this group of players just don’t surprise me and have largely shown the same psychological frailties for 6/7 seasons barring a season with no fans (red flag right there)….Its no coincidence, this group wet the bed time and time again.

Graeme Burns

You don’t lose 6 games out of 32 and go on to win the title.

Ritchie Lamond

It’s the hope that kills. You start deluding yourself that old habits are broken and the players really are better than they are… but it’s a minor miracle that we’ve gotten as far this year as we have with a group who just aren’t up to the quality needed. Is what it is.

KMS

See when you put that performance up against what we witnessed for the 1st half of last week's game?... They have absolutely imploded once again

Craig Galt

That was absolutely stinking from all concerned today. We looked scared every time we turn over possession regardless of who we are playing. We concede too many chances and need far too many chances ourselves to score. Technically still in our hands but I don't believe this squad has it in them unfortunately.

Russell McGhee

From the opening minute when County missed a sitter at the back post, with Tav nowhere to be seen the tone was set. Second to every ball, no urgency, no desire, yet we go in one up. Can't be as bad second half surely? 5 mins in we're 2-1 down...and deservedly so. Still showing little or no desire or fight we plod on, only to concede for a third time in 20mins. Predictably Borna decides he's had enough and departs the scene like the spineless charlatan that he's become (hopefully for the very last time). We huffed and puffed from then on without ever remotely looking likely

Scott Duncan

The same stuff from the same culprits and they’ll STILL start on Wednesday.

ali t

That was......Fatal to our season as the form does not make final either.

Lee

Today might finally end the folk looking to happy clap for dessers. Guy is hopeless. One of many needing chased.

Maca82

Yesterday I headed down to watch Man City a team with vastly superior resources and players force their style of football vs a team with at best a punchers chance. Now all relative etc we have vastly superior resources and on papers players to teams like Ross County why is every league game such a slog regardless of shape and who is our manager? We don’t ever fully control a a game, look toothless in attack and vulnerable in defence. It can’t be every manager nor can it be every signing! Somethings broken at the heart of the club mentality wise. This season has to be a watershed for the old guard/leadership the contracts their on may make this easier said than done.

Daniel Ward

Shocked by how bad they all were but also not shocked, we’ve seen them do it so many times, Need to get rid of a lot of that squad. We lose this title which we almost certainly have done then the other mob will be on 5/6 in a row before we get close again, they will throw mega money at there squad in the summer an go up a level that we can’t compete with.

Gary Shaw

There will be no money being flung at anything as Scotland has a very low ceiling and a court case that will cost them millions but that aside,we need to somehow bring players in who aren’t physically and mentally scared of that lot….until we do that,we’ll always struggle when it really matters.

James McCabe

I don’t think it was bottle, I said to my mate in the pub, this is a team who look disinterested. Absolutely no urgency about them from minute 1. This is a team who are chasing a title & champions league football & most of them looked like they couldn’t give a fuck.

Stace1ofthePeople

Mixed feelings after that. Disappointing but not really too shocked if I am honest as this team has a tendency to collapse. Didn't agree with starting 11 but should still be turning over ross county regardless. It's not won yet but its really giving us a mountain to climb now. I hate to say it as I would love nothing more than winning the league but don't want the league trophy (if we do win it) giving any of these players any credit whatsoever for another season. We seriously need better players and i sincerely hope we don't have another season with tav goldson dessers matondo Wright jack roofe.. barisicic.. fuck the list is endless. New players please

Vivak Kapoor

The fact that the most effort put in to attack the ball at one of our corners was from Butland sums up the desire of this squad

David Kiltie

As David has often said, this season has thrown up some funny results. Today’s calamity looks terminal for our title hopes but there may be a twist or two to come. Wednesday’s game cannot come soon enough.

Billy Forrester

A result that has certainly grounded me and a lot of our support. The league is still in our hands by winning all 6 games however if today is a marker we have zero chance as them players for whatever reason do not seem up for the fight. They don’t want to win things for this club the way we as fans do and I think in this modern day it’s all about money and wages for them with little fight for the badge. I have backed Lundstrum and would have given him a new contract however after last 2 games I have changed my mind, we need to go in a different direction, same applies with Goldson and I’m split on Tav at this moment in time, nothing seems to change with them so maybe time to part ways

Alastair McGeoch

I agree. The mentality was broken in 2012 where the lineage of winning trophies and the mentality to dominate was stripped from the club at all levels. Steven Gerrard was able to bridge the gap on being an iconic former player but it took him 3 seasons to get the team to his level and even he saw it as job done when he finally won it. Our core group of senior players seem content with the 3 medals they have rather than having been inspired to go on and keep winning more. Instead of instilling a winning culture into any new players they have left it to the new players to see if they can lift them each season. We have a group of sr players just happy to say they played for Rangers. Until we sort that out we will be 2nd best.

David Innes

Well it’s certainly been a good day for the bookies - I guess Arsenal and Liverpool fans will be having the same discussions as us tonight after their bottle jobs

Luke

Would you take goldson out of the back line for Wednesday. I personally would. Balogun and ridvan hopefully back in.

Linda Mackay

This time of the season is about rolling up your sleeves and getting the wins. You might not play well but you need to at least outfight and outrun the opponent. Quite incredible that they couldn’t do that today. After getting ourselves back into the title race, all the hard work goes out the window. As fans we cannot do anymore and I’m afraid it’s just the same old story.

Mr J K Murray

4.3 Cyriel did not even attian to get mud on his kit, guess they had the bends from going to Dundee twice, hic, yors, The Leaking Tap, by Constant Dripping

Martin Maliska

We had it firmly in our hands a few weeks ago, from the Motherwell game onwards it’s fallen apart! Players and management to blame for that! The decision not to sign a proper striker in January has cost us the league imo! The icing on the cake today with Dessers having a wee laugh at his missed chance, nice enough big guy but mid table SPFL striker at best!

James Anderson

If Clement is not going to end up like Gio and Beale, he really needs to show backbone and leadership and drop a some of Goldson, Tav, Lundstrum and Barasic. We have see so often that they are serial losers...

Derek MacMillan

Arsenal and Liverpool both lost today on their title challenge. it can happen. Celtic are no Man City and should drop points. Could be the kick up the arse we need. Don't be so defeatist

Fraser Black

The 12pm KO strikes again . . . 🤨 this team always seems to struggle with these games, & not just this season. I know you’ve mentioned before David, jokingly or not, but is it a preparation thing?? Even when we do win these games, they’re always a slog. I’ll apologise if this is a stupid point, but I’m pretty sure the stats or results would back me up. Dropped points vs Killie, Aberdeen, County & every Tim games this season off the top of my head. I know the two home defeats were 3pm before anyone says anything. But we also look so lethargic & even slower than normal in these games, I think it’s a legitimate question to ask what the hell our set up is for these games . . .

Bixby Snyder

To be perversely optimistic for a second… I’m pretty sure, maybe Celtic aside, we have a better record against the top 6 than the bottom 6 this season. I think Celtic are the reverse so maybe still a fight or two to come.

James Muir

MOVE TAV FROM RIGHT BACK PUT UP FRONT HE SCORES WITH HIS HEAD AND FEET SOMEONE ELSE TAKE CORNERS THE BEST HEADER OF A BALL AT THE CLUB CRAZY BUT TRUE

James Muir

ONE CONCERN HEARTS DUNDEE KILMARNOCK ST MIRREN HAVE NOTHING TO PLAY FOR

James Anderson

The way Silva stormed off the pitch, shows me that he did not respect the manager, who defended him last week. I do not want to see him in a Rangers jersey again

Alan Baxter

Absolutely zero optimism for me, none of the defenders are good enough, Yilmaz just gets pass marks and Sterling is raw . Dessers useless, Silva and Sima will be gone. The team that spends the most money/has the most wins 9 times out 10 and that ain’t Rangers anymore. Will get the occasional 1 out of 10 moment, just look at Germany today for those unusual occasions

Andy Gray

The Motherwell result should have been the kick up the arse. Not that they should need one. 2 wins from 5 at this stage of season isn’t title winning form.

Spoon

Most of these players aren’t good enough, the ones that are good enough can’t bring their top game consistently enough. At some point we need to stop pretending ‘we are back’ and addres the reality that given our resources we aren’t managing our playing squad nearly well enough in terms of profile, balance and churn. We should stop looking for the next hidden gem and build a team of guys in the now at a decent level not keep getting doe eyed at wonder kids who can’t make it down south or guys with price tags from Monopoly money leagues that are prime donnas. The snobbery we have for local talent and those who can do it week in week out at teams without our facilities or coaching teams, sports science and resource is shocking. The European adventures recently have distracted us and allowed us to excuse dismal domestic performances and play. Yes we all enjoyed them and the money was decent but we are becoming 90s Aberdeen, big a while ago but a bit of a joke now. We have guys in this squad people have labelled vital, essential and undroppable who frankly don’t turn up for huge chunks of the season and the parts they do their mistakes are glossed over as long as the points rack up. We need to be ruthless, nobody we have is really that good, not even Butland on the grand scale of things. Season after season managers we think are jobbers identify talent not much worse than ours, buy them on the cheap and stitch together Frankenstein sides who turn us over or make us work far harder than they should. It’s actually pretty poor. The worst of all of this is…we could still win not only the league but a treble….however we could also just as easily walk away with only a league cup. Football eh…

Martin Davies

Now 8 hours after the game and I have that feeling you get when you're not speaking to the missus - you know there's something wrong and no matter what you do, what you watch on TV, the feeling just won't go away. These players really know how to ruin your weekend.

Brian Johnstone

On reflection this result has been coming. Doesn’t make it any easier to take though. Let’s be optimistic, we were always going need to win at Parkhead to win the league.

Gordon Watson

Lundstram, Tavernier and Goldson have been thrashed to death out of necessity due to Beale’s crap pre-season and injuries. I’d have Goldson rested against Dundee for Balogun, in fact, there was a strong case to have Balogun in today, the performance and result only seem to strengthen that argument.

Alan Baxter

When we lose league officially but somehow scrape a Scottish cup win, try and remember these days and how often the usual players let everyone down. They need gone in the summer before people fall again for the usual ‘we will learn from it’ lies
