Ross

When anyone watches the team on the TV from afar u always tend to be 10x more negative. Depressing listen

Simon

David Watson went to my son’s school. It is highly unlikely he would sign for us. 0% chance he would sign for us if they came in for him as well.

Seumais Simpson

I don't think that is true. Andy's opinions mostly ring true with much of the folk I talk to at the game and group chats. The few lads who are in North America aren't any more depressing about the team.

Ranger1972

Disagree. Watching team live far more depressing than watching them on the TV. Dessers prime example. Watching him yesterday in flesh and it’s way worse than seeing him on the telly.

David Whyte

Brilliant listen boys 👍🏻

james whyte

Good listen. Depressing. But good nonetheless!!

Ryan McMillan

Hard to say that we shouldn’t be looking in England, when our 2 best signings this season have been from there. It should be about spreading our bets & making sure we have players who fit the profile of what we need in terms of both ability & personality (last summer we clearly didn’t look into the later)

Andrew Finlayson

Tav should be off the pens now, no other taker would be afforded 5 missed pens since October.

William Alston

I'm sure Clement said he would be looking at Scottish players

Graeme Homer

Problem is the same as other years. The rest are either shit at them or no balls to him them. Roofe and Dessers are probably the only other options and Roofe can’t stay fit enough and I doubt 90% of the fan base would want him to take one.

Graeme Homer

Talk is he wants to goto England and Southampton have been continuously working on a pre contract since their bid was knocked back in January.

Graeme Homer

Yip, most of our success has been from English based players. Compare to Lammers, Raskin, Cifuentus etc. We need to balance it out and look at home, England and aboard.

Graeme Homer

I must be an exception to the rule as I’m still positive we can win the league.

Graeme Homer

Gerrard wouldn’t have stayed regardless of the requirement. He chose the signings, he mismanaged his budget with over inflated wages on his star boys and refusal to sell anyone to make money. Although no was buying them with the wages they were on. Also his staff Culshaw and Milson were telling anyone willing to listen that they were off at the first offer and everything in Scotland was shite. The league isn’t gone, we seen league still won and lost at this stage. I still have belief that it’s possible. The whole Dortmund & Bayern chat is nonsense, we heard that about them during 9IAR and look how they managed to get back into contention.

Gregg

Strange takes on priorities for me - we will have one left back and two wide players going back from loan

Angus Mackay

As sore as the probable loss of the league would be, I'm not as down about it as Andy, Remember that their automatic entry will end after this year and their record of qualification is appalling. I also have far more confidence in our new management recruitment team finding us much better value in the market than theirs. Brenda's overall record in the transfer market is pretty horrific. After a catastrophic (and obvious) misstep with Beale, we finally look to be on the right track. Let's stay behind the manager and give him time and space to get it right. I don't want Scottish players for the sake of it, but would certainly be looking at Miller and Barron. I think we need better than Shankland.

Andrew Finlayson

I’ve only seen Dessers take 2 this season one for us and the other for Nigeria and he scored them and Roofe I don’t even consider him a player for us anymore. Missing 5 pens should be enough to hand over the reigns to someone else.

Graeme Homer

Maybe I’m naive, however I’ve seen enough title races up here and elsewhere to know not to discredit or give up until it’s over

Bryan Watson

Both of you seem completely defeated to be honest. This team I agree are not good and regardless if we win the treble, the double or just the league cup this season, we need a reset in the summer. However, 3 points in it and still need to play them. Its a tough ask but the task is clear and it has been a strange old season. I was 4 when Helicopter Sunday happened, you see Rangers supporters in their 40s, 50s, 60s etc loving Marvin Andrews and wheeling out the "keep believing" patter retrospectively but genuinely curious as to how the mood was prior to that day - is it similar to now? I said it the day Rodgers was reappointed as their manager last June that the Rangers support will have to (re)familiarise themselves with going to the wire to overcome decent/good Celtic teams with decent/good managers. I've got a strange gut feeling that we will pull this off and it will be one of the best title wins in Rangers history. Cannot shake it despite bearing witness to this team's blatant defficiencies. 3 games for the league, 4 games for a potential treble. Lets give it everything.

Simon H&H

In terms of helicopter Sunday it was more in hope also yeah. Especially with them being 1-0 up at HT. We didn’t expect anything that day 😃

Allan Osborne

Jeez, depressing listen again. Another 5 years behind? We're not that far behind them now so I'm not as down as you guys. A clear out of the usual suspects when it comes to the annual "shit the pants" collapse and some decent signings (and something done about the neverending injury list) and I think it's far from the cert that they'll carry on like now. They really are not Real Madrid!

Gregg

The support was very different then - the rangers das were young pups (myself included) and I don’t think many of us thought we were going to do it, but there wasn’t the vitriolic abuse there is now. The impact of the last ten years on a large element of our support is not a good one.

Bryan Watson

Fair. I think its 80:20 against us right now but its still there. Its been a weird season, any decent title winning side would have been over the hill and out of reach for us based on where we were when Beale got sacked but we are right there with them with an old firm + 2 games to go. It feels cliche saying it aint over till its over but it isn't, 2 weeks is a long time in football. I mind we got beat 2-1 at Ibrox off Celtic then lost away to Braga 4 days later and we looked done for. The next 8 days saw us batter St Mirren 4-0, beat Braga 3-1 in ET then beat Celtic 2-1 in ET. Felt like worlds apart at the time but it was 14 days. Playing for snookers but if we do our job theres a very real chance we get snookers given the way this season has gone.

Bryan Watson

All we can do is believe and hope. I think we'll clinch it at the death and we will have another piece of history that we can look back on like 2011, 2005, 2003 etc. Worth noting aswell that the characters in this squad are absolute underdog merchants (which is a terrible thing to say about a Rangers team but its true). They play their best when its either gone or nothing is expected of them and who genuinely expects us to win the league? I've got a weird hunch that we will but I certainly don't expect us too and neither do most of Scotland I imagine. We are doing so well until folk actually expected us to win the league, they couldn't hack the expectation of being defending champions, even in 55 season we were written off until Celtic imploded beyond repair in November 2020. This is the scenario in which the mentally questionable in our squad thrive.

Spoon

Don’t agree on the squad chat about certain players but very much agree with our prospects if we don’t change the tack we are on. We have 1 title out of the last 12. They are now on 53 titles and we are on 55 but we are still falling out over what level of gash we have had in our squad for the last decade ? Sorry folks but not sure I can see the metric where we aren’t too far behind or there is hope for the next season when we continue to utilise a squad building model that has been proven to fail. Second isn’t close in a two horse league we need to stop pretending. One thing I do wonder is if our Euro success was simultaneously the reason for our inflated hope and the prime contributor to our flat league performance over the season. We all talk about fighting on all fronts, we speak about you need to play lots of games as a Rangers player but particularly since returning to the top league we just haven’t had the bodies to play 60 games. Sure we could have rotated more but every time we did that the second string weren’t up to it and perhaps that’s the main problem. We can now field a comparable 11 players to them but not over three domestic trophies and an extended Euro run. Our squad this year are burst, they have been for a few months and we as a result rack up injuries, drop in quality and start to piece together a Frankenstein team that’s still capable of doing damage but is horrendously ugly and doesn’t cope well with a bit of fire when the heat turns up. If we don’t change our aversion to local talent, if we excuse crap performances against Motherwell for results be Malmo we won’t have the focus or legs to win this league. We need to stop pretending we need foreign guys to compete in Europe and start regaining the guys and grit you get from our traditional Scottish guys, with a sprinkle of flair from elsewhere. We are currently allowing managers to come in on European dreams and focusing on 10 nights a year where it hamstrings us for the 40 games that really matter when it comes to it. 1 in 12 and they are a year or so from overtaking us in league wins, with a bigger budget and a more complete squad. It is galling but we are hanging onto has-beens or chasing glittery Portuguese strikers instead of spending the going rate on battle tested local talent. Time to change the format and process before it’s too late.

Gregg

When you look across the city - they don’t have many Scottish players (two regulars). They have found markets that work for them though where they have been able to pick players up for a relative song. Would love us to try and do something similar. Would the 11 best Scottish players from the Spfl be good enough to win the leagues I’d love us to have 11 Scots, homegrown ideally.

Bixby Snyder

I agree but if we get one next week (yes, pigs fly and all that) I’d want him on it.

Bixby Snyder

I remember HS being much more positive back then. Less vitriol but I think that was more to do with knowing we had a team/squad that could get it done - they had grit. Will Tav, Souttar, Davies, and Barisic have that next week? I hope the manager can break it into them.

Rod

Defeatist attitude from Andy tbh, Killie and Hearts have both won at parkhead this season, we can absolutely get a win at the weekend.

Andrew Finlayson

Christ I don’t recall the last time we had a pen there, it might be Miller back in 2010. I’m sure he will take it but I think he should be off them, I wouldn’t mind Cantwell for example taking them.

Russ

We don't need to have 11 Scots in the XI is the point. Players like Doig, Ferguson and Shankland have proven to be good enough in their football ability to play for us. Damn sight better (and probably cheaper if we got in early enough) than our options in those positions atm. Add in Souttar and Barron on a bosman (hypothetical) and all of a sudden you've got a strong core of Scottish players who can contribute for less than we spent on Lammers and Dessers. If buts and maybes though obviously.

Russ

Tbh it still baffles me as to why we didn't bid for Shankland or Nisbet when they were putting down 30+ seasons in the championship. It's not even like we were too good for them at the time. Bizarre.

Spoon

Russ captures it perfectly, it’s not 11 Scot’s it’s a core of Scotlands best players not the nationality. If a player is tearing it up or performing week in week out over a season not injured we should be interested. Where they came from originally isn’t the point it’s the Scottish league snobbery we have that’s holding us back. We want top dollar for our guys who play here and have talent but go mad when others do the same eg Shankland. We used to scoop guys like Cannigia or Novo from Dundee who took all the risk to bring them then we cherry picked. To answer your point Gregg they also shop in a different market as they turn a profit and have reserves in the bank we don’t, they can take a punt. In fact it’s good they do as it’s that hubris that’s opened the door for us as financially they should have a team that’s out of sight of us as much as we should be from third place.

Spoon

The idea he isn’t worth £4m in current terms just isn’t tenable. We have been desperate for a 20 goal striker but we are determined to rid ourselves of one, hot on the heels of emptying Colak who in this current team would have bagged 20 easily. We simultaneously want a Shankland but don’t want to pay for Shankland…..two seasons of banging in and creating goals but he’s not worth £4m…..now if he was called Shanklandio or Shanklandiwcz we would shell out whatever it took. Strikers cost money, good ones cost a lot. Good ones who can survive Scottish foootball ….. easily worth £4m. It was the most obvious signing in years since Ferguson or Doig. The boards transfers have been terrible for a decade bar the odd success. We also need to bin the big name loan obsession. The guys shite but we take him as at some point some mentalist team paid over the odds for him and lost out…..we are like Fry shouting take my money for these guys and they never ever work out.

Gregg

They did have grit - no question - but they were a fairly limited squad. The one that one the title 2 years previous was far superior - before the fire sale of players. Always amazes me how we can go away to benfica/ betis and countless other places against far superior teams than Celtic but we can’t do the same against that mob. Maybe we need to take them up in a.before the old firms then have a couple of overnights somewhere.

Gregg

Think the loan market is still worthwhile - look at sima. I’d take Shankland if we can shave some off the price tag in the summer no doubt. It’s not the amount of money we spend it’s who we have targeted that’s the problem for me - we spent the guts of £15m on forwards this summer and haven’t had a return on it - Dessers aside. We would have been as well keeping colak - another Beale error. Interestingly though he’s been very poor for Parma. He seems to be a one season and off player - that’s what his career has been to date. He must have made a shit tonne of money on signing on fees over the years. Hopefully we can get Barron and one of Cameron/ Miller/ Watson in the summer. Would also be looking at the young Liverpool boy that’s been on loan at Dundee. We need a good quality left back to challenge/ cover for yilmaz.

Gregg

Agree with russ - the time to go for Shankland/ Nisbet/ Ferguson and even Hickey was when they were in the championship. Throw in miller as well - how did we not spot him when we were scouting rice? Unless he is a late bloomer

Spoon

Take your point but when we did have him he was scoring regular but we wanted to pigeon hole him and focus on the bad bits rather than the goals. If we had built a team to service his game who knows what we would have got out him. I would stress I’m not claiming Dessers is top drawer or that we wouldn’t like him to score more but we need to be realistic about how much we are spending and what you get for it. Our only chance of getting a top striker would be to build one in the academy as we can’t buy a finished article and as soon as we got one maybe two seasons out of them they would be off to bigger things. I would just like a change to our policy from high risk gambles to perhaps lower risk signings with the record and robustness to function in Scotland. We might need to go a bit more industrial in the form and take less flair but I’m bored of the big ticket guys with zero return. Other love them but I don’t think we have had value from any player since we came back up in the front line bar Morelos for one season. Our attacking output has been and remains poor. Let’s hope we change things but as others have said clement has made no comment on going for local talent and he has made concerning comments around who he wants to keep e.g Lundstrum which doesn’t fill me with confidence in his talent spotting. I think he is over hyped but Raskin for example was being raved about but Clement doesn’t seem to fancy him, is he right ? Possibly but his phenomenal start shouldn’t blind us or make us think he’s infallible.

Bryan Watson

I think we'll win on Saturday and I think we'll win the league because absolutely no1 not even us has any real expectation that we will. Its been one of the hall marks of this team since Gerrard that they play their best when its a free hit or if they've been written off. Can always remember beating Braga away 1-0 and Ryan Kent saying after the game they prefer playing in Europe because theres less expectation, only for us to lose our next 2 games to the 2 bottom sides in the league. Look at the run to Seville, some amazing results in there but who really expected them to get there especially against Dortmund and Leipzig. Even this season this squad have played their best when we were miles behind and beat Betis away when we were resigned to UECL football after Limmasol at home. Its a terrible trait for a Rangers team to have and we need to gut it in the summer but I actually think it will get us over the line in the league and potentially a treble.

Andy Barnett

I think we’ll get beat, so yes that’s defeatest. What evidence do you have to suggest we’ll win there? Aside from hope

Andy Barnett

The manager has stated he wants to hang on to Lundstram, Goldson and others. The budget has been wasted by Gio, Beale and Wilson and Clements hands will be tied.

Andy Barnett

True. But in the past, those Rangers teams had belief in themselves . This one doesn’t

Spoon

Don’t think he was saying we should have only gone then I read it as we should have been able To spot his talent way back then. The idea that Scotland potential top goal scorer and potential player of the year couldn’t get a game for us is nonsense in my mind. The same people who used the logic that Lammers and Dessers would come here and score for fun must see with more chances Shanklands goals go up ? The figures don’t lie and people who want to discount stats are deluding themselves when it comes to goal scoring or goal creation the stats are ALL that matters. Trying to demean stats is fundamental bias, folk only pour scorn on stats when they don’t like what they tell you as fact. It’s like shouting get back to the tide, pointless and makes you look daft.

Rod

If Killie and hearts can do it then so can we, celtic are not a great team and we can absolutely get the win.

Seumais Simpson

I'm generally a pretty positive person when it comes to Rangers but I'm definitely running on fumes stage at the moment.

chris smith

I dont think the defence has ever been good. We werent conceeding goals because the midfield was strong. When the midfield fell away the defence was exposed and the reality became clear in terms of how poor the defence actually is

Darren Littlejohn

Those teams went there believing they could win. Both got in their faces and harassed them which should be our game plan

WILLIAM JACK

Got to say, lads, I respect your views but your take is too negative for me. No one saw 55 coming in the manner it did or CFC struggling this term. Changes in dynasties or league champions can happen very quickly based on a lot of factors. CFC may have more money but they can't get the fabled ten or twenty years ahead as they can only get a certain level or profile of player to come to Scotland, same as us. In all honesty, their signings over the last two years have been poor and Nils Koppen is off to a decent starts with Diomande and Cortes imho. Games and even moments within games can shift momentum massively. I know our weaknesses and know we are the underdogs on Saturday but we are still in this. One thing is for sure, if we don't think we can win, we won't.
