If Butland stays I suspect he’ll be the Captain next season

Charlie Nicolson

7.30 kick off was pretty much standard as I remember it

Brian Auld

I think it’s clear we need a refresh but need to remember not long ago we were thinking about a potential treble. Injuries played a huge part in our downfall as we brought these guys in for a reason. That said - the old guard need to go and a new captain that leads by example on the park is essential for a fresh start. Some look too comfortable losing.

Billy Joel.👍

Martin Sutherland

Hard to say until we sign players I suppose. I would hope Souttar is a rotation player next year so wouldn’t be a suitable candidate.

Paul

Love Butland, but this one needs to be taken out of the manager's hands. If a ridiculous offer comes in, we need to accept it and move on. We let Gerrard refuse offers when we should have sold our assets on. Look where that's left us. Frustrating, but it needs doing.

Allan Osborne

It was 7.30 for midweek games up till the early 80s, certainly the late 70s.

Angus Mackay

Agree 💯 on Butland, Davie. Well said. Also congratulations on having the strength to not do the hefty fee gag in relation to the Apoel story. That’s the kind of opportunity that tabloid sub editors have long lived for.

Craig Armstrong

I remember as late as the late 80s early 90s the games ko at 730 for midweek games. Can't remember when that changed to 745. Re Butland, I get the feeling he'd love to stay but is probably aware that we will listen to a decent bid. Fir 15m is probablybthe top end of that fir him. But I also suspect that he'd only leave for guaranteed 1st team football. Also on Jefte, if he clnes he comes, if he doesn't, he doesn't. I just hope this isn't a ploy for any fee to be increased between us and Fluminese, or is that too cynical.

Gareth bennie

I’m sure 7:45 kick offs were introduced when the CL went to 32 teams. 8pm kick offs became more common when Sky took over I think. That said, if we were at home to German teams, kick off times were sometimes between 8-8:30pm. Rangers v Dortumund in 1999 was an 8:30pm kick off.

Doug

I think Butland can be a real difference maker for us so if we're really aiming for that title then we should look to retain him at all costs. Money is only one aspect of the equation, an eye for a player is another. We sold Bassey for big money and the following window brought in Danilo, Lammers and Dessers. One part proven, one unproven and one failure. If we sell Butland and do the same again it'll all be for nothing. With that in mind, I'd want bids north of £20m to maximise our return and I would hope the transfer team have specific ideas on how that money would be spent, not just sell for the sake of money.

mark Fullerton

£20 million is the number I’d sell Butland for in the summer.

Martin Boyd

You are correct David 7.30 was what it used to be .

David Kiltie

I remember the 8.30 kick off v Dortmund. The clocks changed earlier in continental Europe so British Summer Time and CET were in line at the end of September that year.

David

It will come down to whether Butland wants to stay or not. If he wants to go he will go. If he does go then I think Robby McCrorie would be fine for next season and it would give the lad a chance to prove himself the same way McGregor did. I wouldn't be going out and spending a big transfer fee next season on a Butland replacement. Other areas of the pitch needs urgent attention.

Andrew Logan

I assumed it was 8pm thank you!

Robert White

4 nil us. Cmon killlie. No surrender.

Ted

Just about to listen to todays podcast however after yesterdays I was wondering why there isn’t a lot more noise regarding that penalty call - it seems to always be the way that we as Rangers fans look at our failures first (which I don’t disagree with) however there is a reason refs are scared to give decisions against Celtic. We’re as weak on the pitch in terms of ‘asking’ officials as we are off it. Am I wrong and was the penalty not as obviously wrong as I think it is? Boils my piss that they scrutinise every decision (when they don’t win) and we seem to meekly accept the blatant difference in how refs ref Rangers. Sorry rant over 🤬

Robert White

Spot on Brian. We were one wrongly disallowed goal from the league (taken your pick from 3 OF games) and the cup double is on.

Steven Elder

Just as well I just listened to this as I was would have left the pub in time for a 7.45 kick-off. I do remember it was always 7.30 ko with the odd 7.45. International games I'm sure were 8pm, although I could be wrong with that.

Doug Maclean

Definitely 7:30 was the evening kick off time from the mid 60s through to the mid 80s. I think European games were the first to change us to 7:45 Butland ticks so many boxes for English Premier and European clubs that we should not consider anything below £25m this year

David Scott

£15M is a fair price for Butland but would be very disappointed if he left the club, hopefully the manager has a solid plan for next season and Butland is on board with it.

Granters

Interesting to hear chat about the Captaincy. Pretty clear Clement wants to bring in younger players, but who will he bring in to lead this team? I think he needs to find his own Davie Weir / Steven Davis types (tbh we’ve never replaced Davie Weir as a defensive leader). Wonder where he finds them? Could he go back to the Belgian leagues for guys he knows?

Andrew Hillis

Where the hell is Ryan Jack? He wasn’t in the 11 players injured list yesterday was he? 🤬🤬🤨🤨

Granters

I’ve got mixed feelings about Jack now his time is coming to an end with us. Great player on his day, but he really should’ve ditched international football a couple of seasons back. His body clearly wasn’t up to club AND country and, as usual, we ended up paying the price for it.

Brian Auld

You are right. We’ve certainly not had any luck v that mob with the refereeing. It now seems everyone has just given up - “season over” even though we have a cup final. One minute we are amazing and on for a treble and then it’s back to a massive gulf and the whole squad needs replaced and questioning the manager who has been in since Oct and dragged this squad into a title race. Drives me nuts. We will never get better like this.

Luke

The one and only dalcio playing his football with jefte at apoel just now.

ali t

Yep....7.30 was definitely a kick off time id reckon in the 80s and europe was 7.45....not sure when it changed over.
