The boys are back with Rob Smyth to tell the story of the finale to season 1998/98 and English football's first Champions League winner as well as Dynamo Kiev's last great attempt at the big one before their favourite son departed.

Next week is a Q&A on the story of the Champions League from its inception until 1999. Any questions you have for the guys please share in the thread!

My youngest Son was born the night of the Man U v Inter game so I will never forget that. As for the final Bayern really should have been over the horizon, typical German over confidence cost them. I wanted Kiev to win the tournament, they were fantastic to watch.

Excellent as always lads.

That commentary still gives me goosebumps after all this time. It was a magnificent victory and one I felt we’d have no chance of a few minutes before.

Was this season the tipping point where clubs from smaller countries lost the chance of winning it? The initial 5-6 seasons of the CL felt like a bit of an open draw, sides like Ajax, Kyiv, Monaco etc could go far and the big European super powers such as Bayern, Real, AC Milan, Man Utd were finding their feet. From next season onwards (barring 03/04), shocks seem less frequent and clubs from smaller nations have seemingly no chance. Is it too simplistic to say the structural change of 2x group stages killed the chances of us having another Ajax, and if so was this truly the last season before the big 4 took over and never looked back?

This is the best show in the network currently. Could you just drop your other commitments and start churning out an episode each day please? Also, there is enough content per season to generate 3 * 90 minute shows. Don’t sell yourselves short!

I'm only getting around to listening to this now. This is my memory of the last few minutes of the final: We were watching the final in our student flat while getting ready to go out. When the first goal went in the old TV died, we desperately tried to get it back on, but to no avail. Then we all had to run upstairs to our friends room, as she (die-hard Liverpool fan) had it on. By the time we get into her room, Solsjkaer was just about to nod home. Absolute madness!!
